  • Shouldnt you have a respirator on?

  • go on ebay and look for 6oz glass. I buy my glass in large qty rolls. I bought 180 yards last time.

  • Where can you get the fiberglass sheets? And how much are they?

  • Comment removed

  • i start off with a board that is 3/4" thick and then I sand the rails and the board.

  • @youmakmesik Is half inch too thin?

  • @SKAuthenticDank , if that is all you have to work with then have fun with it. You also had a question about stringers. I don't use a stringer because of the added time and cost to put them in comparred to the low cost of the boards. Unlike a surfboard stringer that can be 2 to 3 inches in width and can add a lot of strength to a board. a skimboard stringer is only .5 to .625 inchs thick not really adding that much strength.

  • how thin is the board

  • did you get my msg

  • @youmakmesik shit... fourth comment today. Sorry bout that. But how/why are you making it without a stringer?

  • how did you get rocker without stringers?

  • @loharynda

I have the boards cut to my specifications with the rockers in place. They are cut with an automated hotwire machine that will cut my design from a cad file.

  • do you think you can get the rocker without that machine how do you think i can pull it out?

  • where do you buy the fiberglass sheets??

and where can I get one thats 52" x 20"

    thanks

  • @psmiller234

Look on ebay for 6oz standard Weave Fiberglass, this would be your best route or just search Google. Or, go to any Tap Plastics or Marine supply store like West Marine to buy Retail Fiberglass. You will pay a premiun at these places.

  • For that board I silk Screened the graphics on Rice paper. I can Print or Silkscreen graphics on Rice paper. I can provide the graphics on the proper Rice paper to you. $25 for each Graphic Panel provided to you. All I need is a High Res. file to use. Let me know

  • What are those graphics made of?

    Can i print them myself?

If not how can i get them?

And did u put any special coating over them before glassing?

  • can you use decal stickers? the one used in car decals for the designs?

  • you can, but unlike the rice paper where the resin can soak through and create a bond even at the point of the sticker, the decal is some sort of plastic so the resin that sits above it will not penetrate through to the board. This could be a point of delamination if the boad if a lot of pressure was put on at that point.

  • its better to put rice paper between glass layers not under

  • the best place to put the decals is right on the board and not between the glass. The rice paper will lay down flat on the sealed board. if you place it between the glass your logo may take on the shape of the weave in the glass and distort.

    goodluck.

  • @youmakmesik

    ok

  • @ubepalitaw

yes it is a type of foam. I use 2# styrene. foam. (2 Pound)

  • Will fibergalls degenerate(Eat) the Home Depot insulboards?

    THanks!

  • where can i get the fiberglass?

  • where can you buy those size pieces of fiber glass cloth and do you need the epoxy with the resin because theres resin at lowes but no epoxy

  • where can you buy those size peices of fiber glass cloth and do you need the epoxy or just the resin buy itself

  • what is the liquid?

  • The blue liquid is Epoxy Resin. Resin Research Epoxy Resin. Check out Fiberglass Supply. Google them or the Resin Reserach.

    Goodluck

  • Resin Research

  • are those sheets fiberglass cloths? and what do you put ontop of it? the blue liquid..

  • my board melted and i used all purpose fiberglass resin

  • what size in inches is the board in this video?

  • 50" blank

  • about how many oz of epoxy did you use total on the hole board, and did you glass the top of the board to?

  • I glass both sides.

    first side - double glass - 16oz

second side double glass - 16oz

flood coat each side 12 to 14 oz

gloss coat each side 12 to 14 oz

    all epoxy resin with hardner.

  • what is that liquid?

  • The liquid is a Secret........... All right.....It's Epoxy Resin. I use Resin Research Epoxy Resin. I order from Fiberglass supply in the northwest of the USA.

you can't just get the resin. You will have to invest in the whole shabang....

if you are making one goodluck. I also sell the styrene blanks that only need final sanding of the edges and that's it. The come pre-shapped about 90%.

    thanks for viewing.

  • @0160FERNANNDO

epoxy resin - Resin Research Brand

  • some surfboard glassers will airbrush ontop of the final gloss coat and then spray a clear coat on top of that.. I can't say what zap does, just don't know, but you can airbrush on the blank and glass over that. but if you don't like the texture of the surface you can coat the blank with a mixture of microballoons and epoxy. Many was to do it. Zap and others use molds, which i am embarking on.

  • The art is super clear under the glass, u can't even tell there is glass on top of it

  • what if you wanted to air brush? When would you apply it? for example, when does ZAP skimboards apply their air brush?

  • I was also wondering how clear your art will be beneath two layers of fiberglass? Couldn't you just paint it after the cloth is laid?

  • I don't use a stringer, the boards retain their stiffness good without. I don't just buy the foam precut. I designed the shape and the rocker in the front and rear. I have the blanks engineered cut to my specs. Now all I have to do is the final shaping. The blanks are cut twice,

To answer the other questions. Airbubbles are always a problem, keep working the glass until the resin starts to gel and the glass doesn't move anymore. Another option would be vaccum bagging.

  • hey great videos! I sent you an email but i dont know if you check it so im just going to comment on here... I know you buy the foam precut, but it looks like you dont use a stringer? Do name brand skimboards not use stringers? also what do you do for the rocker?
