Only that the harbour was bombed by the USAAC and that was of some military importance unlike the RAF de-housing night time.
The RAF/USAAC bombardment of housing areas had no military importance. It was deliberate cold-blooded murder of civilians - one of the instance where the Allied lost their moral hight ground.

"GOOD OLD HARRIS" was not given chance to continue at RAF and had to leave Britain to South Africa. He had bombed civilians and cultural heritage night time following orders of his superiors. He was given the lowest thinkable peerage for reward, and his pilots were deprived of the campaign medal while all other departments of the British army were awarded one.
Churchill shifted the responsibility of his own excesses on Harris and the Bomber Command.

@TheMrPangloss Hitler was not in hamburg, in fact he did not even like the city. The destruction of hamburg was an act of hate, and it actually brought the allies very close to the axis. It showed, that every person, every people is capable of such horrible acts, not just nazis. It's disturbing that there was never an official excuse for all the civilians killed in those attacks (which were clearly targeted at civilians, this is officially confirmed)

Those U boats were sinking our merchant shipping and some of those ships were being used to evacuate British children from Britain to Canada where they would be safe from the German Luftwaffe that was bombing British cities. Hamburg became a principal RAF bomber target for this reason.

U boat yards and pens were also the primary objectives for the American USAAF Eighth Air Force from late 1942 though early 1943.

@TheMrPangloss You are wrong, about 60,000 people died. However, the bombings of Hamburg (operation Gemorrah) had a major result that was unintended. It is called the "fire storm". The napolm bombs which you mentioned earlier created a huge wall of fire that drifted eastward into the residential areas due to high wind speeds created by the fire. Although the British did come back 69 times to bomb Hamburg after operation Gemorah for pyschological terror against the people.

@SuperTB4 The numbers are always a matter of dispute. However, what you call "psychological terror" was in fact pure terror. All civilians were targeteted, even the POWs died during such bombings.
That was called "strategic bombing" merely in order to deviate the greater public from the essential: that it was a testing ground of war industry on mass destruction weapons culminating in the nukes of Hiroshima and Nagasaki, and as such it was a war crime later persistently washed by propaganda.

Unfortunately the RAF bombed and gassed Iraqi and Kurd homes in 1919-1924 and also did similar attacks in India.
The RAF squadrons operating with infantry burned down villages and killed indiscrimininately everybody. Already then they used white phosphorus against civilians. There is a memorandum written by young Arthur Harris from 1924 on this, over 10 years before Guernica.

Actually the Luftwaffe bombed many civilian targets in England. If they could not find their targets, they'd drop their bombs at the nearest target. Around the corner from where I live, the old Cinema was bombed, and the Primary School was bombed during world war 2.
Furthermore, maybe you should read up on the Blitz: the Germans used to continually bomb London to demoralize the British Public. All countries were guilty of war crimes, but that was because this was a global conflict.
