  • checkmate, Will Hunting!

  • I love what Robin Williams says, it really speaks to me and it should to every else out there too.

[I keep this quote on a sticky note on my desktop, cause i love it so much(:]

  • he just got told...

  • almost feels like Robin was speaking out to every person who has ever criticised him for his work as an actor. You got to admit, a person can claim to have been a critic all their life but who can say that absolutely qualifies them to judge a film, maybe all it does is qualify them how to tear a film apart, not recognise it for its beauty.

  • As far as acting this movie is most definitely in the all time top ten

  • Wondering everything from how long it took them to complete it to learning to spot where Raphael's work was in the museum and what a rosewood rosary smells like from the Vatican and getting it blessed by the Pope himself. He may claim to know life yet he has no compassion or feeling.

  • I know someone who feels he's this brilliant and would claim to be book smart in every topic like this yet has never been there to know what the smell is like in the dead of summer climbing those stairs to the Sistine Chapel, being awe-struck of the wonder of the massiveness of it above you. You can't learn life from a book or a computer.

  • 36 ppl are cocky scared shitless kids

  • i cry every time damn this is deep!

  • When a smart young mind and an experienced smarter older mind collide .. Happens with my dad all the time

  • Just noticed that this was done in one take.

  • I swear I did not cry!

  • This scene was the reason Robin Williams won the Oscar. i love how people talk crap about how williams is a bad actor but fail to remember this scene.

  • @Rsheetz86 And he came up with the scene, truly amazing. Robin is a brilliant actor.

  • Not even 2 minutes into this scene and I want to watch this movie, never seen it before.

  • @zman6695

If you haven't seen this movie yet, then in a way you are very lucky - lucky, because you can still experience it for the first time. When you do, it will amaze you. And then you'll want to see it again. Cheers,

  • i have never seen this movie, just saw this scene for the first time. its amazing and now im going to go watch it.

  • Reminds me of a quote... "A young man may be knowledgeable, but an elder has experience"

  • Shows how talented Robin Williams really is and that he is more than Mork. This has to be one of the best scenes from a film ever, the structure, the dialogue...Will cannot say a word while he is getting systematically disected verbally by Shawn. Love it!

  • wish I saw this BEFORE Mrs. Doubtfire.

    lol still looks good :D

  • that's really awesome...such wonderful performance and wise words ♥

  • Why is that man being such a dick to the other guy?

  • @Matthew2400 you should watch that movie. Is awesome and leaves you thinking!!

  • @Matthew2400 watch the fucking movie !!

  • Did Matt and Ben really write this movie?

  • Its kinda sad that we once had movies with a meaning, with something important to say, now we have movies like twilight and clash of the titans. I rate this movie as the second best movie of all time.

    1. The Shawshank redemption, about getting past the obstacles that life throws at us.

    2. Good Will hunting, about finding the meaning and goodness in our life.

    3. Forrest Gump, about how me must show each other respect, care about each other so we can live in a world were we are truly happy.

  • @SebbeGrishater i couldn't agree more. Your top three is the same as mine. I was sitting here thinking this is probaly the best film I have ever seen and then I thought no, I would have to put Shawshank above it. No more than 2 seconds later I read your comment. WOW!

  • @SebbeGrishater and don't forget "Lost in Translation" about people who do understand each other...

  • @ehben83 Never found that movie that great, honestly. ):

  • @SebbeGrishater Black Swan, Inception, and Girl With The Dragon Tattoo are amazing. Not all movies nowadays are terrible.

  • @CorRomeister And what is the depth of black swan? What can we learn from it? The Girl with the dragon tattoo is nothing compared to movies like Se7en.... Inception is great, really awesome. But the movies does no longer teach us about life.

  • @SebbeGrishater black swan accuratley depicts the psyche of youth who are overly pushed to do their best... I have never seen se7en so I would not know... And yes Inception delves farther into the human psyche.

I will look se7en up one day, sounds interesting.

  • @SebbeGrishater Fight Club should be on that list.

  • @xCANOCx there are much better movies than fight club

  • @SebbeGrishater Don't even pull that.. the "movies of today" are shit, because they're was plenty of shitty movies in '97 as they're is today.

  • @XXActionJackson So because I think that the movies from the 90's are better than movies of today, i am in some way stupid? Respect others opinions. I Haven't seen the same level of depth in the movies from the 21th century.

  • @SebbeGrishater Did i say you were stupid? Inception was fantastic, the Dark Knight, Midnight in Paris, The artist, The Decendants, and moneyball are all fantastic movies.

  • dint get diss movie @ all. wotz duh big fuckin deal? me hoe rented it 4 are 'movie knight' dat she insiztz we av n sow der we we're watchin in n @ diss seen i let rip wiv a massive peelin fart dat stunk like crazy lol she ad 2 get up n open a windo innit LOL! surves er write 4 rentin this fuckin crok o shite.

  • @MrThreshold2009 you are hopeless

  • @MrThreshold2009 ps please don't have kids

  • excellent movie, amazing that this was Matt first serious work.

  • yeah……well…….fuck you man!!!!

  • can someone explain the scene to me

  • @jadedfeelings21 you're kidding, right ?

  • Thumbs up if Mat Damon reminds you of Leonardo DiCaprio...and you think they were both hawt when they were younger!

  • Awesome

  • i never get tired of this shit!

  • I just felt it down deep in my soul: That Boston Public Garden encloses a magical and powerful mystery. I had the chance to be seated in front of that energising-weeping-willow tree twice in my life. The experience cannot be explained in words, just as Robin Williams says about being at the Sistine Chapel, it only runs down through your spine and flows in your blood !!!

" I can't learn anything about you unless you wanna talk about you, who you are"...Can't believe I haven't seen this movie yet

  • MAAT DAAAMON

  • this is what i think about when someone pulls out a smart phone and think they know the answer to everything.

there is a whole world out there and you need to feel it, not read about it.

  • @fivehoursaway always assuming they CAN read. ;)

  • one of the best and most gripping scenes in movies, along with al pacino in scent of a woman...i hear williams did this in one take..i would love to know if this is true.....

  • Robin Williams is one of the most gifted actors ever to walk the planet. He is a comedic genius and his dramatic acting is so heartfelt and powerful. Quiet simply a brilliant man.

  • robin williams is the only therapist who could get away with talking to a patient like that. i <3 this movie, afleck, damon, and robin williams!

  • 3:28 To my ex

  • @blacksabath66 sorry

  • I read Oliver Twist.

  • 34 "dislike" people have no heart

  • wow, damon and afleck wrote this when they were just kids?! its brilliant

  • When i look at you, i don't see an intelligent confident man.

    I see a cocky scared-shitless kid. Wow.

  • Best scene Ive ever scene Robin Williams work

  • I empathize with Will so much. I've had a hard time maintaining friendships with most people and have been single all my life. I'm a fairly intelligent dude, but it doesn't cross over with developing friendship with people. Sometimes I think they wrote this movie for me.

  • my favorite movie......ever

  • Every cocky teenager should watch this scene and then be asked to re-think their life. Imagine the affect that will have.

  • @masht11 *effect, stay in school.

  • @masht11 Definitely. I'm a late teen (19) and I used to be cocky and gung ho. Don't tell your elders to suck eggs, as they say.

  • Powerful scene!!! Robin Williams..wow!!!

  • @Doped2k7 What is so good about this scene any way. . I like much better when he said that 'it's not your fault' about ten times in a row. . There is some Semantic conversion affect upon the Will person. . . Cheers. from, del-boy.
  • I dont't think Robbin Williams realised at the time just how powerful this scene was.

  • Keep that camera on Robin!

  • Makes me laugh how so many old, youth hating, paperweight intellectuals think that this scene is some sort of young vs old face-off. Completely missing the point.

  • @z0mgrugbyreturns

The point you read in an article somewhere. Good show.

  • @BigDTinyE I haven't ready anything anywhere. The point is, quite clearly, that this scene has nothing to do with age.

  • This wonderful scene completely defines what the relationship between Damon and Williams will be throughout the movie. Astonishing!!

  • somebody got OWNED!!!

  • If no one agrees with what Robin is saying......then go away and die!

  • Amazing movie,great life lessons

  • I've learned so much with this movie...

  • "You know what occurred to me? You're just a kid, you don't have the faintest idea of what you're talking about"

Man this line has me doubting myself lately. I have a plan and a direction of where I wanna go but I'm in my late teens, still pretty much a "kid", do I have the faintest idea of what I'm talking about? lol...

  • @peterdabest94 What old people forget is that age isn't wisdom either. To gain wisdom you need to experience new things. Then you need to feel it AND think about it. Then you need to be willing to grow.

You grow wiser with age, but some people gain wisdom faster or slower than others. What's more, even the simplest of people might have wisdom you lack. Just because you're 'a kid' doesn't mean you can't change the world. In fact you're probably the only person who can.

    Joy and glory, kid.

  • Nothing wrong with having plans, goals and dreams. The point of the scene is Sean is telling Will here is that he acts like a cocky know-it-all when he's never experienced a lot of things, things which he (Sean) has experienced. Therefore, it's arrogant and stupid of Will to think he knows him and about his life, as well as the fact that he can't get to know Will unless Will tells him, because you can only know someone through them, not a book or painting, which is what Will tried to do

  • @peterdabest94 Good for you that you have a plan-stick to it and see where it takes you. When I was your age I did not know my ass from a hole in the ground.Only in later life did I get a grip and get a plan and worked towards it.Good on yer.Having a plan at an early age is the best -do it.

  • @peterdabest94 One more thing-try to get through life without borrowing any money for silly things you don't need from banks or anyone,-When I was younger some guy who was my age now said that to me and I thought I knew it all and ignored him-Wish I had listened to him,he was so right-Spent lots of my youth working my ass off to pay back what I had borrowed for shit I did not really need.

  • @bossz43 grow up

  • One of the best scenes i've ever seen. Sometimes you have to cut the sutil shit and talk to some people in a way they understand. I love this movie, it always encourages me to be a better person.

  • For people who don't know this Robin Williams is actually a very good actor. In my opinion a very underrated actor.

  • If you can't get Bourne with assassins just send in Robin Williams.

  • This is as true as it gets. Noone will ever know what someone else goes thru in any situation. What a great reference to oliver twist too. Great movie.

  • Talk about getting your ass verbally handed to you...

I remember flicking through channels on TV then i came across this on this scene, i saw Matt Damon and planned to watch 20 secs then flick over. Needless to say, i watch the whole thing to the end. i LOVE clever films and intelligent arguments, i mean anybody could call someone's mum a slag, but to do what Robin Williams did and what Matt Damon does in the film, is something else completely...

    10 out of 10 masterpiece

  • so love the scene very good

  • So many memorable scenes from this movie that make it amazing. could watch it over and over again.

  • BEST MOVIE EVER!!!!.....so love the scene very much!!!...thanks very much for uploading....

  • You've never felt hurt, till you've felt love.

  • I love how Matt Damon is giving him feedback at the beginning, and then just silence.. Powerful scene!!

  • Jason Bourne just got owned here, big time:)

  • 32 people don't have the faintest idea what they're talking about

  • @seankacosta 34 very scared and extremely terrified people, put their thumbs down!

  • Owned

  • the best acted scene ever in my opinion..

  • best monologue ever

  • Says it all if we hear it

  • quality

  • truly amazing movie, so deep in ways some ppl wont think possible, it truly moves me ,

  • How this scene should have ended. "Your move chief.... Jumanji."

  • The difference between theory and wisdom.

  • @hellomottojl ...lies in experience.

  • @hellomottojl don't think you know what a theory is

  • robin williams spittin' mad game

  • Mork just owned Jason Bourne lol

  • owned...

  • I'd find it hard writing a scene in which my character gets emasculated...Kudos to Damon...

  • i love the boston accent.

  • a very intelligent film.

  • The first time i watched this scene,i cried. :(

  • So well done.

  • this is the best scene in the movie

  • such a touching and moving flim, with so many great scenes.

  • when he says you may have even gotten laid a few times. Could you imagine how pissed off Williams would have been if Damon said yeah by your wife before she died.

  • this is the best scene of the movie!!!!!!

  • This movie was quite moving! I've spotted Robin Williams a couple times in the city. Matt Damon has tremendous talent!

  • @katnap72 matt damon was a douche fag

  • What an excellent scene

  • How miserable do you have to be to dislike this video?

  • One of my favorite movies. Just fantastic.

  • i heard that he improvised this whole speech. robin williams truly is incredible. that's all i can say

  • gay.

  • @borismarinov Obvious troll doesn't have taste in cinema.

  • Goddamn I wasn't even looking this up but stumbled upon.. but now I gotta see this movie haha

  • Never seen this movie but... I have to admit, this is one of the best movie scenes I have ever seen.

  • Excuse me while I remove the dust from my eyes!

  • Robbin Williams is such a great actor...

  • where has cinema gone these days... its very rare to find great dialogue like this.. these days

  • @ramanaa88 Bullshit, it's very rare to find great dialogue like this at any time in cinema history. This is greatness, which by definition is rare. Your views on today's cinema have no bearing on it.

  • @FreckletonBoy another movie with great script was pulp fiction

  • @GuitarHeroCustomize love this quote! ....i tell people all the time, I see with my heart, touch with my heart, hear with my heart.... BELIEVE vs KNOW (my Personal distinction of the two) ...when I BELIEVE, it means, I FEEL it within my HEART,,, to KNOW is with my MIND! :))

    thanks for sharing :)))

  • "and u ripped my fuckin life apart" that gets me.

  • great scene!

  • God I wish I had this film to watch right now

  • hahaahahahahahaa 'you didnt come across as cordial, you came off as a condescending douche' class

  • Fuck you know-it-alls.

  • Beautiful scene

  • I'm 14 years old, I've always considered myself to be a very confident boy and very brave, but after watching this scene, I've taken a look back at my life and what I did with it. Now I see, I was a very arrogant person becuase I thought I understood things like love, war, basically everything Robin Williams covered. I didn't understand any of that becuase I've never experienced it. I have a whole life endure those things, not the first 14 years of it.

  • robin williams : "you've never been out of boston?".. MATTDAMON - "yes".. robin williams - EAT A DICK FAG

  • Brilliant writing and acting.

  • ROBIN WILLIAMS VERSUS THE OLD SPICE GUY. SET IT UP.

  • LOVE ROBIN WILLIAMS, DIFFERENT LEVEL IN MY EYES,

  • Omg he improved this.... That's amazing

  • Did you guys know that most of what William said was not on the script but improvised?

  • MATT DAMON - F.A.G

  • Okay cool observation RaiceGeriko. No one cares.

  • This shows that movies can be the greatest art form in the world. Sadly Hollywood wastes that so much with cheap stuff a bloody Smurfs movie.

  • This is my favorite scene in the movie. Robin Williams silently slapped the fuck out of Matt Damon's character.

  • @astrostar49 ...your comment is my favorite!!! ....brilliant summation of my fav scene..

poetic justice at its best!! thank you!!! :)))

  • I wanna go to the Sistine Chapel now...

  • Williams is one of the few people in entertainment who can be so hilarious to watch your stomach aches in laughter....

...yet when he's acting in dramatic and serious roles like this he is so captivating to watch. You just want to listen to what he says, and you forget and ignore what is happening around you - you are captivated by his presence, even thought he is not with you literally

    That is true talent.

  • @thedude1325 Not to take anything away from Robin Williams in that statement, but the actor doesn't do it alone. The director has a huge hand in how you get sucked into a scene like that. Notice the slow camera pan and the tight view on the faces. The noise in the background but it's all blurry. You can hear the wind. There's a lot of things going on that make this scene work like they do. But, again - not to take away from Willams' performance. He has his part to play in it as well.

  • @RaiceGeriko It's the camera grip and focus puller. Also, the cinematographer. Directors get far too much credit than those in production care to admit.

  • @NoceurLouche Yeah - that's bogus. If the director didn't matter, then he wouldn't be blamed if a movie fails horribly. They carry the greatest responsibility, and as such are the driving force behind the artistic vision. That is what the director is supposed to do, and the best ones DO that. Cinematography and such is a skill-set. Anyone can learn to take a picture and set up lighting. Some can be really great at it. But at the end of the day - you only capture what the director tells you.

  • @RaiceGeriko First off, I never said they didn't matter. They get too much credit. The only reason they are blamed is because their name is attached to everything, ie: James Cameron's Avatar, Christopher Nolan's Batman, etc. They are trumped by the producer, who has a creative finger in every pot. They are not the driving force, they are a force. Also, if the producer doesn't like something, it goes. So really, at the end of the day, you only capture and keep what they want.

  • @NoceurLouche Listen, I'm not going to get into a debate with you about this anymore. You're one of those guys who just likes to disect every little word someone says so you can find a hole in their contention. You're like the blond dude in the pub in THIS very movie who needs to feel like a big-boy; so he picks random fights with people to impress someone who doesn't care. And if I were any dumber, I would fall into this trap. But all I really have to say to you is "go fuck yourself."

  • @RaiceGeriko You don't have to be an ass about it. I work in the film industry, and I can tell you that people don't get credit where it is due. That's the bottom line. I'm not sure what you're taught, but there's a lot more to it than just the director. I don't need to impress you, I couldn't give two fucks about you. But I can't stand ignorance.

  • @NoceurLouche Dude in every profession, there are people who don't get the credit they "deserve". It doesn't matter whether you're making movies or you're scrubbing toilets. But you can't let your butt-hurt attitude get in the way of what is reality. That's just immaturity. If you don't like how things are done, then your energy would be better spent doing something about it, rather than complaining about it.

  • @RaiceGeriko I'm not butt-hurt. I honestly don't know why you're turning this into such a big deal. I've never gotten personal with you, as you have with me. I've tried to not attack, because I could. I was simply trying to correct a mistake that I saw, because you obviously share some love of film. Being said, I thought you would have been more cordial about it, but I guess I was wrong.

  • @NoceurLouche You really didn't come off as cordial. You came off as a condescending douche. Maybe you weren't trying to be, but you did, nonetheless. What I said really wasn't incorrect. Your original statement was basically you correcting my opinion by stating your own - which is BS. Maybe I'm coming off a little unreasonable, but I don't take kindly to people who provoke me, and then even worse, try to pretend they were innocent from any wrong-doing.
