  • Muslims today committed another suicide attack in Iraq, 78+ more dead Iraqis, and they still claim to be a peaceful people, lol

  • Why doesn't the bull shit American media just ask APIAC or better, Israel, what America should think?

  • prosecute everybody engaged in war-crimes!!

  • Your opinion is for shit, Levin

  • did congress try to stop torture from happening???

    nope.

  • is that your argument against prosecution?

cuz to me that question and answer says we should investigate them too...

  • they should ALL go to prison and not be released, not only bush and cheney but all the other people in his criminal cabinet. I also think all the DEMOCRATS who went along with bush and even helped him out (like his buddy al gore) should also be brought up on criminal charges and conspiracy to commit treason against the people of the united states. just like prescott bush except this time no pardons from the president like prescott bush got pardoned after being found guilty of treason. TREASON

  • We need to move on. All of this is playing into the hands of the Bush/Cheney crowd who will bog down Obama at any cost. I think they acted criminally, but this whole investigation (because it will be so politically charged) will be like Clinton's impeachment in the late 90s. Gov't will be paralyzed.

The President should move away from these horrible policies by blazing his own trail and not dredging up the past. It only gives more power to the scum that tore down this nation for 8 years.

  • That might be the price for Justice.

Is it not worth it when millions of people are dead because of your gouverment and ulitimatly because of the US people who elected the gouverment TWICE!

But you think its better to forgive annd forget?

  • No one is forgiving or forgetting, but it's not the President or Congress' job at this point to go through the last administration looking to press charges.

The US Dept of Justice will go through the information and evidence available and make appropriate choices from there. Obama and the Congress need to focus on the many issues facing the nation.

As for blaming the American people that shows a fundemental lack of understanding of the situation. You'd do best to do your homework there.

  • Congress failed to Impeach Bush for 6 years. And this is an issue facing your country. This is about rebuilding your Respect in the world, because right now its not far from 0.

In a Democracy if a country elects a dictator twice its the peoples fault that he got elected and not the other contender.

In a Democracy were the people knowingly supports the President and his toture measures/illegal war tactics and then elect him for another 4 years its the peoples fault.

    What am I not understanding?

  • Which country in the world would you prefer if you were a prisoner, a suspected terrorist?

    America

    Iraq?

    Iran?

    North Korea?

    China?

    Venezuela?

    Israel?

    Come on. Which one?

    (you won't answer)

  • GreatSatan1: First, your question is stupid. Who should be in prison for being suspected of something? If you suspect somebody for being a murderer you put him in prison? No!

You arrest him and put him on trial.

But "IF" i was "guilty" of being a suspected terrorist i would prefer to be in prison in my home country: Sweden. Not a country who thinks it has the right to take a human life= Death Penalty and i think thats what all the countries you mention has inn common. funnny eh?

  • Compare "jail" in the countries I mentioned to Guantanamo in US Cuba.

Sweden was not one of your choices.

  • GreatSatan: Again, it's a stupid question. Why do you compare developing countries+Isreal with "the leader of the world"?

    to answer your question. USA.

Now same stupid question to you: Which Country would you want to be in jail: Sweden, France, Norway, Netherlands or Denmark or USA?

All countries more developed then US, both socially and educationally.

  • One of us is having difficulty with logical thought.

    Consider this:

How many political or military prisoners are taken by Sweden France Norway Netherland sor Denmark compared to the number taken by the countries I mentioned.

  • they are more advanced in many ways. but considering the fact that the US has spent billions subsidizing them with the marshall plan and other post WWII programs, spent billions defending them during the cold war era and worked itself to the bone fighting the modern plagues of communism, fascism and naziism while they have spent the whole of the modern era sitting around thinking about social programs and caving in to tyrants, they should have all the energy they need to be "advanced."

  • have you forgotten France folded against nazi attack in 24 hours & then the Vichy french government began shamelessly collaborating with the nazis/that Sweden never even TRIED to fight the nazis & even let them freely travel through swedish territory/that while millions were being tortured to death in Soviet gulags people in the countries you listed did NOTHING leaving the cold war to the US/if the US was shameless it too would have plenty of resources & money for running humane prisons.

  • have you forgotten that while europeans were sitting around drinking wine and criticizing americans, people in the US were developing the world's 1st computers, sending the 1st exploration vehicles to Mars, discovering DNA, inventing the 1st airplane, unlocking the power of nuclear fission and fusion, giving the world movies/the phonograph/the telephone and pretty every other mass communication technology, inventing the 1st steamboat, building the first steel frame structures and fiber optics

  • i guess europeans have to sit around and criticize americans. how else should one treat the country that protected the world from fascism, communism and naziism/the nation whose scientists built the modern world/the only people who seem to care when fanatics call for the whole world to be subjugated to one dictatorial khalif. go ahead, hate americans, good for you. when your countries are conquered i hope you enjoy having to watch people being stoned to death in the streets.

  • You are just like those people Bill maher talked about recently on his new rules: Those who are living off achievements of past generations and take credit for something you had NOTHING to do with. Sorry bud, America isn't that country anymore. It is a country who tortures illegally and refuses to prosecute offenders, starts illegal wars, and impedes the progress of other nations.

  • you cant "move on" without ensuring that the mistakes of the past do not occur again.

the only way to ensure that people dont abuse power is to have consequenses for their abuse of law. if they know they wont be prosecuted in the future, based on the inaction of the present, then there is no reason for them not to avoid the abuses of the past...

  • Since Bush's lawyers are in the chain of command between Commander and Chief and the Joint Chiefs of Staff, these lawyers must be COURT MARSALLED.

The Prosecution needs to be the U. S. Army's Inspector General, with his counterparts from the other branches of the Armed Services.

A tribunal will need to be held to administer the Big Chicken Dinner.

The company of defendants shall be small and intimate, .. , just Gonzales, Addiston, Yoo, and one or two others.

  • Impeach wall street

  • Impeach Bybee

  • Gimme a Break!

Obama will push the center over to the attorneys who wrote briefs - Which will over time, easily allow him to find cause to dump any investigation!

Martha Stewart & Lil Kim were jailed for lying, but no Politician nor Corp elite will be tried

Waxman, Kucinich & Rahm Emanuel doesn't make a difference; and everybody but the American sheeple know it!

America is a socialist country for corporations and Americans are ignorant sheeple who get the Government they deserve!

  • What are you talking about, sugar? If Obama really didn't want the investigations to happen, then he would say so in public and effectively shut the whole thing down. Why would he make a news-making comment like he did? As it happens, he's giving the DOJ free reign. The unreleased DOJ report on the lawyers who provided the torture memos is reportedly pretty harsh. All of these things are good signs. Cynicism is the last thing we need. Skepticism is fine (I'm skeptical too), cynicism is useless.

  • prognost

Obama had his mouth piece last week say he was not going to investigate - But the backlash was too large

So his handlers had to create a new way to out-maneuver the public, (shift the blame around by dumping onto legal counsel, then find a back door out again)

Americans have the bankrupt government they deserve!

  • I think Rahm Emanuel was speaking independently. There was no real outrage or backlash that I saw in the mainstream news-cycle, so I don't think that was the motivation for correcting his statement.

The reason they're going after the lawyers is because they're the ones against whom they have the clearest and strongest case. Hopefully, bigger names will surface in any investigation of them. I'm skeptical, but hopeful.

Obama isn't trying to shift focus, the focus has ALWAYS been there!

  • Obama last week had one of his talking heads say he wasn't going to prosecute; & in his own words, "..nothing will be gained by spending out time & energy laying blame for the past"

However, with more revelations & public dissent, he had to back-peddle

If he wanted to make right, he would prosecute from the TOP down - Blaming only the lawyers allows compartmentalization of the issue away from top & room for legal wrangling to dump the issue

  • I think we're both clear on the facts. We just disagree in our interpretations.

I don't think prosecuting the lawyers would end it. I think it's a good starting point that could eventually expand upwards. Just my opinion.

Put yourself in Obama's shoes, and imagine that you wanted to get Bush and co. for their crimes. I don't think it would be realistic to start at the top, it would take too much political capital. Best to start at the bottom, get the public on your side, and then move upwards.

  • independent, basically unless everyone cares deeply it won't happen.

    Carl Your Fired!!

  • The law is the law. The law does not care about parties. The Attorney General must follow his job description, investigate and prosecute where crimes are found. The congress must follow it's job description and do the same. We must affirm to ouselves and show the rest of the world we are a nation of laws.

  • Though I agree wholeheartedly with your comment, I have no confidence that we are a nation that can still do this. Corruption in govt has become very systemic and, in a related development, CYA has turned into an art form.

If we were indeed a nation of laws, Bush would've been impeached and removed before he even got to run for his second term. If not that early, then certainly and unquestionably for the illegal wiretaps. We lack the will as a people to compel reponsible govt.

  • Something happened today. This whole mess is breaking wide open. Every channel on the TV, is talking this. I watched in amazement as a Fox anchor declared an end to tortured with a speech " not in my name" not in America's name" never again"... I went to the market and overheard three different conversations about it.."it is about time" f- ing criminals"... Republicans are going crazy on the TV right now, trying to stop or spin the avalanche of new info from insiders. You may be wrong this time.

  • would love to be wrong.
