  • he grew up on marthas vineyard witch is where i live and went to high school with my brother.

  • sent a letter far away

    said baby come home today

    i'm here and its tomorrow

    i'm home and its tomorrow

  • sounds like layla......EVERYTHING

  • sounds like eric clapton and not just the voice, the music, everything. ...layla

  • great song. voice reminds me of leo kotke.

  • I'm not trying to put down the UK here. I'm just pointing out the apparent hypocrisy of the situation- real or imagined- since my government also makes laws that I don't personally agree with too.

If some Muslims are known to be extremists- do we outlaw Islam- and lock up every Muslim? But that is what psychiatry seems to be doing with the mentally ill. Locked up without any recourse- and they might not have ever done or would do any wrong.

  • no i havent been hospitalised or been mentally ill for decades but i do have family who are mental health nurses and i can assure you that they treat their patients like humans as do the rest of the people in the mental health sector. its not like "one who flew over the cuckoo's nest".

but what i dont understand is why you decided to take a dig at the UK when you've never been or dont know anything about the health care.

  • Yes I've never been there- but, we have this amazing form of communication- it is called the internet. It allows us to communicate with each other over very long distances.

"I want to see through all the lies of society- to the reality- happiness is at stake"

Look up psychiatric survivors and psychiatric abuse. Look up silvasmart and ladybard1968 and tell me that something here just isn't right.

We have a thing called habeus corpus in the US while the UK "sections" people. Look it up.

  • I really don't think this song has anything to do with being mentally ill. I think it's about the strange sort of rituals we take part in while living in normal society, like college. At least that's what it sounds...

  • @daliwndrland I couldnt't tell you the first thing about what this song is about. But I can relate to every single word and note!

  • You should use the that amazing form of communication to look up the 1983 Mental Health Act which requires two doctors, a social worker and a close relative to sign before somebody is institutionalised first for a period of 72 hours, then if necessary 28 days for a full psychiatric evaluation and only then for 6 months if necessary. It also states family members can release someone into their own care as long as they are not a threat to anybody else. Try doing some research before spouting bile.

  • "The main thrust of the Act provides the power to detain a person in hospital to treat their mental disorder." -from Wikipedia. Although was you said about holding people in hospitals is true, Section 3 of this act includes treatment orders- initially lasting 6 months and each subsequent one lasting 1 year. So they can't hold you in a hospital for that long, but they can give you injections against your will and shove pills down your throat for years apparently.

  • But the good news is that the newest Mental Health Act of 2007 includes guidelines to follow for ECT treatment. "Electroconvulsive Therapy may not be given to a patient who has capacity to refuse consent to it, and may only be given to an incapacitated patient where it does not conflict with any advance directive, decision of a donor or deputy or decision of the Court of Protection." Which means they can't shock the sh*t out of you and give your brain convulsions and seizures against your will.

  • @Carex09 Personally i think it's a good thing they can make certain people take their medication in your country.I lived next to an old man who shouted at everyone, defecated outside peoples front doors, poured boiling water over a woman who had to be taken to hospital, and eventually killed himself. It was days before anyone found him. He was a well known hockey player in his youth apparently, a nice man even to me in between psychotic episodes. Medication would mean he was alive & happy now.

  • @rabbitwho Taking medication is not a magical remedy for mental illness. The drugs only do slightly better than sugar pills- meaning 50% or more of the patients see no improvement in their condition. How do you know your neighbor wasn't medicated? Lithium has been around for a while. The older drugs are just as "effective"- meaning 50% or more of the patients see no improvement in their condition- but just with different side effects. Least the guy didn't die from diabetes.

  • i think that you have taken this to an extrem

  • Taken what to an extreme?

  • what the bear are you lot on aboot, enjoy this willy!

  • In the US you can only be institutionalized against your will if you're a threat to yourself or someone else.

    Don't know about the UK.

  • Yes, and to reiterate my first statement- Thankfully we live in America.

  • SHUUUUUUT UUUUUUP

    SHUUUUUUUT UUUUUP

  • mooglesarerabbits- Indeed. That is what I keep telling the voices in my head. They never listen either.

  • Determine, you're mother :> ?

  • Thankfully we live in America- where you can sign yourself out of an institution and your parents didn't put you there- instead of the UK- where you were probably carted off by the police at your mother's request and will remain institutionalized until someone else decides your fate.

Oh sure, the UK loves Willie Mason- but you treat your mentally ill less than human. Do you even get what this song is about?

  • have you every been to the UK? because you have no idea! or are just one of those people who think they know everything when actually you dont have a clue? x

  • Have you ever been hospitalized for mental illness or been mentally ill for decades? Because maybe you have no idea about the human rights abuses that happen to people.

And no, I've never been to the UK- like most mentally ill people I'm lucky if I make it outside my house and even if I do- I wouldn't have the money to go anywhere.

I guess it is out of sight, out of mind if it doesn't personally concern you.

  • your music gives me hope; in music eh does that make any sense? i definitely think i know what i mean

  • Dont know why, but i just keep thinking this sounds like eric clapton and not just the voice, the music, everything.

  • i thought that myself about a year ago when i hear it, very much like layla.

  • I love having grown up on the island (and be here right now, back from college) and having a community full of amazing people like willy.

  • You stole my account name >.>

But the song makes it all better ;)

  • Не плохо

  • love this guy, gutted i missed him at brighton!

  • Are they his real parents in the video?

  • That's his mom -- but it's not his dad. Friend of the family...

  • dont make up random shit you have no idea

  • But I do. I know Willy and his mom and dad from "before." But that's okay --I have no vested interest in you're believing that. Just trying to answer the question.

  • I heard that too. I read something about his dad not liking the way the Save Myself video was done so he wouldn't help with this one. I'm not positive, something like that.

  • STRONG

  • amazing

  • Great song, should have been massive!

  • we can use tounge, tounge, tounge

  • Does anyone know where the video was filmed? In particular, the road he walks along where he sees the bus?

  • Earth.

  • hahahahaha

  • umm i know it was his home it was filmed at but no idea about the rest of it...

  • Martha's Vineyard, Massachusetts.

  • we can be strong

  • altogether now!........"we can be strong, strong, strong"

  • If you download the album Kt Tunstall isn't singing on it, its some weird woman. GRRR.

  • Tit! The woman is Nina Violet, and has been touring with Willy since day one...

  • Calm it down lovie...

  • I got the single and the album for both versions. Thanks to KT for calling my attention to Mr. Mason. Excellent!

  • Mr Mason gives me hope for today's generation. I just don't understand how anyone could be drawn to Hip Hop and it's culture of ignorance and hate.

  • Now Willy Mason is great, really really great, but no offence surely it is ignorant to call ALL hip hop ignorant and hateful. One of the things i think Willy

Mason tries to say is be open minded

  • amazing tune!:)

    marky poo&wisa duckling loooooove it!

    ♥

  • it has KT Turnstall on backing vocals aswell

  • This one is Roseanne Cash.

  • "BANG!" Strikes right through my heart... Makes me miss Johnny

  • This is the kind of country-influenced stuff I like. Not that nashville corporate redneck crap.

  • Kind of gives me hope there's young musicians out there like Willy Mason that still know how to play good tasting music.

  • i love how he has obviously taken influence from cash but hasn't ripped him off!

    great!

  • I agree. ^^

  • yep, my guitar is now sticky

  • so good id have sex with it if it were a lady

  • love this song so much

  • wot a song, wot a voice, refreshing, could follow in the footsteps of the late great Johnny Cash. Rest In Peace Johnny

  • If you dont have a capo you can play c#m A B c#m during the verse then c#m F A F A F c#m B in the chorus! sounds right

  • For Cool T-Shirts, Vests & Hoodies this summer click on my name and you can find an address on my page, alternatively click on any of my vids and you'll find it there too.

  • any one know the chords for this song? would be great cheers

  • couldn't find it on the net either, using powerchords following the baselines this comes close:

    intro, chorus: 9 7 5 4 5 4 9 7 (second time hold 7)some time)

    verse: 9 5 7 9

The numbers representing the position of the powerchord on the e string.

If somebody finds the precise tab with all the diddeling and all, please let me know to..

  • try a capo on the first and play Am C G F for the verse! not to sure bout the chours tho try that sounds not 2 bad!

  • Just what I needed... come to Asheville.

  • willy looks a bit like nathan fillion. i love em' both. great song.

  • Hey, well it certainly isn't KT Tunstall on this version (there is another version with her on) , for one- it doesn't sound anything like her. Secondly, it says in the description that Roseanne Cash is on backing vocals so you do the maths... lol

  • i was gonna say i've hurd the kt tunstall virsion and this aint it

  • yeah it is kt on backing

  • the song AND the video are both just amazing. was meant to be seeing you at the QMU in glasgow but it's the day before one of my exams :(

  • listened to this song now about a 1000 times, and its STILL GREAT :P ya'll should know

and the comment about how ridicioulouss it is that people compare his voice to johnny cash'sss and that he sounded like robbie williams...: THAT WAS REAAALLY FUNNY HAHAHAHA robbie williams? tsss come on ever listened to him> hahahah

  • whoah he is like the new johnny cash....

eh? how does he sound like robbie williams? :S.....

    good voice though!

  • robbie williams needs putting down at the vets

  • surely one of the songs of the year

  • You must be kidding, Johnny Cash ?????Everyone, for example Robbie Williams but not Johny Cash!!!!!

  • this song is amazing, his voice also reminded me of johnny cash :D and ehhh i was annoyed for weeks because i didnt know who it was, and mtv2 didnt tag it yet, so that was SUPER IRRITATING finally i know :D:D:D:D

  • hmmm, BBC Radio 2 is playing the K D Lang version, I much prefer it, so which one is being released?

  • This song is awesome!! I've had it stuck in my head for weeks but whenever i saw it on MTV2 i never saw what it was!! Can't wait to buy the album

  • Really great song but much prefer the vocals of KT Tunstall who has also done backing vocals for this song, really complement each other, Cash is too weak

  • I am pretty sure this is kt tunstall on backing vocals and not rosanne cash.

  • sorry people this version is not the version with kt tunstall

  • Willy Mason is awesome! He is going to explode in North America!! Reminds me of Johnny Cash.

  • My best friend is in that video!!

  • I love listening to this! Completely approve.

  • goin watchin the lad in manchester in a couple of weeks, cant wait. he's safe.

  • I think he might have re-recorded it with KT Tunstall but Rosanne Cash is on the original. love them both

  • thats great

  • Great song! My favourite on the album. Saw this on Mtv2 and it said 'featuring KT Tunstall', is that a mistake??

  • What a ridiculously talented guy! Pure genius!

  • First song in ages that made me go "I have to find out who this is"... Love the lyrics, love the voice, nice one, man.

  • Love it, still waiting for another Australian tour!
