I'm not trying to put down the UK here. I'm just pointing out the apparent hypocrisy of the situation- real or imagined- since my government also makes laws that I don't personally agree with too.
If some Muslims are known to be extremists- do we outlaw Islam- and lock up every Muslim? But that is what psychiatry seems to be doing with the mentally ill. Locked up without any recourse- and they might not have ever done or would do any wrong.
no i havent been hospitalised or been mentally ill for decades but i do have family who are mental health nurses and i can assure you that they treat their patients like humans as do the rest of the people in the mental health sector. its not like "one who flew over the cuckoo's nest".
but what i dont understand is why you decided to take a dig at the UK when you've never been or dont know anything about the health care.
Yes I've never been there- but, we have this amazing form of communication- it is called the internet. It allows us to communicate with each other over very long distances.
"I want to see through all the lies of society- to the reality- happiness is at stake"
Look up psychiatric survivors and psychiatric abuse. Look up silvasmart and ladybard1968 and tell me that something here just isn't right.
We have a thing called habeus corpus in the US while the UK "sections" people. Look it up.
I really don't think this song has anything to do with being mentally ill. I think it's about the strange sort of rituals we take part in while living in normal society, like college. At least that's what it sounds...
You should use the that amazing form of communication to look up the 1983 Mental Health Act which requires two doctors, a social worker and a close relative to sign before somebody is institutionalised first for a period of 72 hours, then if necessary 28 days for a full psychiatric evaluation and only then for 6 months if necessary. It also states family members can release someone into their own care as long as they are not a threat to anybody else. Try doing some research before spouting bile.
"The main thrust of the Act provides the power to detain a person in hospital to treat their mental disorder." -from Wikipedia. Although was you said about holding people in hospitals is true, Section 3 of this act includes treatment orders- initially lasting 6 months and each subsequent one lasting 1 year. So they can't hold you in a hospital for that long, but they can give you injections against your will and shove pills down your throat for years apparently.
But the good news is that the newest Mental Health Act of 2007 includes guidelines to follow for ECT treatment. "Electroconvulsive Therapy may not be given to a patient who has capacity to refuse consent to it, and may only be given to an incapacitated patient where it does not conflict with any advance directive, decision of a donor or deputy or decision of the Court of Protection." Which means they can't shock the sh*t out of you and give your brain convulsions and seizures against your will.
@Carex09 Personally i think it's a good thing they can make certain people take their medication in your country.I lived next to an old man who shouted at everyone, defecated outside peoples front doors, poured boiling water over a woman who had to be taken to hospital, and eventually killed himself. It was days before anyone found him. He was a well known hockey player in his youth apparently, a nice man even to me in between psychotic episodes. Medication would mean he was alive & happy now.
@rabbitwho Taking medication is not a magical remedy for mental illness. The drugs only do slightly better than sugar pills- meaning 50% or more of the patients see no improvement in their condition. How do you know your neighbor wasn't medicated? Lithium has been around for a while. The older drugs are just as "effective"- meaning 50% or more of the patients see no improvement in their condition- but just with different side effects. Least the guy didn't die from diabetes.
Thankfully we live in America- where you can sign yourself out of an institution and your parents didn't put you there- instead of the UK- where you were probably carted off by the police at your mother's request and will remain institutionalized until someone else decides your fate.
Oh sure, the UK loves Willie Mason- but you treat your mentally ill less than human. Do you even get what this song is about?
have you every been to the UK? because you have no idea! or are just one of those people who think they know everything when actually you dont have a clue? x
Have you ever been hospitalized for mental illness or been mentally ill for decades? Because maybe you have no idea about the human rights abuses that happen to people.
And no, I've never been to the UK- like most mentally ill people I'm lucky if I make it outside my house and even if I do- I wouldn't have the money to go anywhere.
I guess it is out of sight, out of mind if it doesn't personally concern you.
But I do. I know Willy and his mom and dad from "before." But that's okay --I have no vested interest in you're believing that. Just trying to answer the question.
I heard that too. I read something about his dad not liking the way the Save Myself video was done so he wouldn't help with this one. I'm not positive, something like that.
Now Willy Mason is great, really really great, but no offence surely it is ignorant to call ALL hip hop ignorant and hateful. One of the things i think Willy

any one know the chords for this song? would be great cheers
fakekings 4 years ago
couldn't find it on the net either, using powerchords following the baselines this comes close:
intro, chorus: 9 7 5 4 5 4 9 7 (second time hold 7)some time)
verse: 9 5 7 9
The numbers representing the position of the powerchord on the e string.
If somebody finds the precise tab with all the diddeling and all, please let me know to..
karsttuinstra 4 years ago
try a capo on the first and play Am C G F for the verse! not to sure bout the chours tho try that sounds not 2 bad!
