Everquest 2 has changed a lot since this review and is a lot better now and more fun. They do have PvP servers and now every server can PvP in the battle grounds. I have played a lot of MMORPGs through the years and EQ 2, in my opinion, is the best one out there. I highly recommend it.

people, im sorry, but no matter how much a game is better than wow it will never be as popular, and i cant even explain why. i think its possibly because blizzard have been in this business for a good 5 years now and there so in touch with the players they no EXACTLY how to please them and all the decisions and actions to take. and god, the scale of it...

i still play castle of the wind and the i found out about nethack and i read that they ran into each other on a april fools so i tryed EverQuest 2 and it was of now im addickted to 2 games :(

@shaktiX 1. Yes, Its not "Open World" You have your short instance loading for every zone, but the zones are for the most part huge and loading is short so it doesnt bother me.

2. You have dedicated pvp servers now. And we just got battlegrounds.

Its a great game, and has more depth and things to do than any other game I've played.

that does sound improved and i dont mind loading different areas. The major problem i had was them instancing those areas. If im in a world and im at location X i expect to be able to run into and interact with everyone who is in the same area. Dont want there to be more than one version of it. Is it still like this? this day and age theres no need for it. Follow EvE onlines lead i wanna see 100s of thousands ppl in the same given space. That goes a long way to make it feel like a real world.

Modern MMO's are rediculously easy. I hate that! I hate mainstream players. Theres no real penalty for death anymore. I remember the corpse runs in EQ, and you were really afraid to die in that game. Or players paying me to recieve a Teleport to another continent as hiking all the way there was an adventure in itself. A trip from Freeport to Qeynos on foot was a frightening trek. It was totally immersive, you actually needed to THINK about what to do in order to survive in this hostile world.

I agree with you macca. I remember the times I died and hated every time I had to run back and get my corpse. I also hated running to and back between Qeynos and Freeport.

But as I look back on those adventures, I miss them.

@olunt WoW, its alot less time consuming contrary to modern stereotype, although the graphics are "better" according to others due to realism, wow has more creative graphics, and its alot more fast paced, and the addons for WoW is awesome

@oystein127 WoW isnt better made per se. Everquest 2 has better graphics, better story and more, the only thing WoW has over other MMOs is it is far more addictive. People dont like games that challenge them anymore, WoW is perfect for people like that because you are never without quests, exp flows in fast and everyday you feel like you have progressed where in like Everquest it takes 50 times longer to get a level more at higher lvls,WoW is addictive and can be fun but in no way is better made

theres a origanal comes with no expansions so no new characters or citys but if you get 1 expansion you get all the exasions plus the games from earlyer not the new one if you bought an older one so get shadow odisy if you want the latest version

Old review I guess - EQ2 isn't the game that it was at its launch anymore. Much less grind, PVP-Servers are available and the whole game became much faster.

It has evolved pretty well since release and I'd love to see a new Gamespot-Review.
