@Xlion901 as for Carl's guitar......i wish I could hear some exanples that were other than primitive chuck berry-esque riffs...........i would really like to hear some better examples if someone can point me in a direction
If ever a guy benefitted from facial hair, it's Bruce--what a difference! He should have stayed with this look. --As for BW, Carl & DW, it's important to remember, CONTEXT is everything. The group is like a kaliedascope: what you see & know, depends on where you stand, when you look & listen. Carl & BW had a difficult time of it: he--BW--could never--would never-forgive Little Bro for saving his life, & holding the group together. Wolfsky9
"Oh Darlin" is the only song on "Keepin' the Summer Alive" in which I can hear Dennis's voice. You can hear him singing harmony during the bridge. I've read elsewhere that he appears on only one other track on the album (playing drums or keyboards, don't remember which), but I don't recall which song that was.
Looking at Bruce from the start of this vid, I really wish he'd kept his hair longer, combed back & with a beard. He looked so much better--really fit him well. Carl's voice--The voice of an angel. Period. Wolfsky9
Never been a big Mike Love fan, ( I think he'd be selling used cars in Pacoima if he weren"t the Wilson's cousin) but I thought I heard Brian say Mike came up with the hook (i'm pickin'up good vibrations) for that song, maybe I'm wrong.I think he undid whatever good he'd done for the band with that disgusting rant he gave at the rr hall of fame.
Carl wilson was such a good person and singer, and of course Brian was so talented and I get tired of people putting down Mike he was okay, he's an intelligent guy. He wrote alot of lyrics. Brian was going to call Good vibrations, Vibrations, and Mike added the word good in front. Can you imagine it any other way. Jardine was so talented and seemed like a great guy, I love his Lady Linda. Bruce is solid. Dennis was so fun early but he sure picked the wrong people to hang with, to bad.
@impassable you're absolutely wrong about the song title! brian based the entire song on the vibrations dogs sense from people. there are good vibrations and there are bad vibrations. in fact, it came from what his mother, audree wilson, told him when he was little. mike love had nothing at all to do with the title. get your facts straight before you spout nonsense. thanks.
@tatelabianca you're right and wrong. your right about how his mother influenced the song but Mike added the word good, Brian was just going to call it vibrations..you better get your facts straight.
@Desiree50 I think dennis was so into drugs from a young age he had no clue where he was. But also at the same time he had a good voice. When you thinktho how Brian, Carl and Mike in the same bloodline its amazing. Then Al was great but like George Harrison was sorta left out. The Beach Boys will always be around.
@glamourpho i see you had nothing to say about Mike Love LOL.alot of people do not feel for him they way they feel about the rest.I really felt sad for Dennis life, your right he was way into the drug scene but so was Brian he was more into LSD i think.but then cameDR Landy who gave him drugs and then Brian started talking out of the side of his mouth.I think thats what caused him to get auditory hallucinations which he admits he has today.peace Des
Carl held this band together. He is SO DAMN UNDER RATED it's criminal. The voice of a angel.
I LOATHE Mike Love, and I say that as a lifelong Beach Boys fanatic. The SANITY of the BB's? Holy Crap, that's HILARIOUS! I can't stand the sight of him for MANY reasons.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
Mike Love was and still is the Sanity of the Beach Boys, he understood very early on how to keep things in there proper perspective. Love is a Genius in his own God given talent..A true Conerstone of the Beach Boys.
All were very important and each had their own unique giftedness. I wish Dennis could have developed more musically. He was more talented than any realize. I love Mike for being Mike. No doubt Carl and Brian were masters, especially Brian. Al fit right in.
Brian Wilson was and is still a musical genius. His brothers Carl and Dennis really contributed to the band. Al Jardine had far more talent than the man most sane people love to hate and that's Mike Love. He was the killer of the original Smile. There is a reason Pink Floyd used Bruce Johnston to help with the vocals on "The Wall" Believe it not, they also used Toni Tennille on that album. Bruce had a full grasp on harmonizing. Brian was a great teacher, too.
trust me I don't like tooting a horn for Mike Love, I find him almost unbearable. However, we must remember he cowrote Good Vibrations, which did hit #1, so if thats counted in having a few good songs. That is a great accomplishment. I agree BW was the best but unlike Fogerty, there were other talented, mostly overshadowed by his greatness members of the group. give Carl some credit he could and did quite often play some kick ass guitar, or doesn't that count to you?
What you say is a little misleading - Mike wrote the lines, "I'm pickin' up good vibrations, she's giving me the excitations." He wrote nothing else of "Good Vibrations". Nothing against Mike, here, I'm just clarifying.
Mike Love didn't do crap for Good Vibrations. Brian was nice and used his lyrics over Tony Asher's. Mike bashed that song back and forth, until it became popular and now he still goes on tour with it like he did something.
@SPzero06 i dont think tony asher wrote anything for good vibrations if you listen to the demos it sounds like brian is making up temprary lyics off the top of his head that didnt make sense
@SPzero06 Tony asher didnt write any lyrics for good vibrations he was already gone brian used temporary vocals with lyrics off the top of his head if you listen to the demos you can here that they didnt make sense then mike contributed the finished product .
@spacepatrolman Tony Asher did write the original better lyrics to Good Vibrations. They appear on Brian Wilson's Smile credited to Tony. Do your homework before sharing misinformation.
Carl Wilson was the guy who kept the Beach Boys together from the time he was only 17. His voice was out of this world. He also composed wonderful songs and played a great guitar. He helped save Brian's LIFE, went to court twice in Brian's behalf so Brian could get rid of the man who kept him like a puppet on a string. Also Carl loved all people. He had in his band when he went solo, a black woman singer, a black bass player and one his best friends, his brother in law who is Philipeno.
I know, that's great. But Brian had the gift. That heavenly musical gift. Even they would tell you that. Everybody knows that. Those others weren't really anything compared to him. Kinda like John Fogerty in Creedence Clearwater Revival. Or Paul Simon in Simon and Garfunkel. I'm sure the other Beach Boys were nice guys and all that, and they had a couple good songs here and there, but they weren't Brian. Why are you arguing that? It's not really even debatable. Carl had a great voice. That's all
Carl also had depth, which I am sure you find laughable, listen to his words. As I said before Brian is a musical genius and was like the first to depend on sampling to create alot of their albums. Carl was the glue, the soul, the heart of the group, and btw Dennis was the inspiration for most of the early songs written and recorded, so as I said stop overlooking the others, it wouldn't be the beach boys without them.
@4chandalyda4 Ultimately, Carl is my favorite. I think he had the best voice with the greatest range, and he seemed like a gentle spirit. Sandwiched between his two brothers who were, let's face it, disfunctional, Carl remained an anchor not just for his brothers but for the band.
@4chandalyda4 Carl Wilson was not only a good man,,,Carl was also a veritable-styled archetype of what not only a good man is,,,,But, even more Vital,, of what a good man does !
@4chandalyda4 You didnt do your homework! Read Brians book " Wouldnt it be nice" and you would probably change your mind! MikeLove was only interested in money!
Brian was let down by everybody except Dennis! Dr. Landy by the way saved Brians life.
@kjetin99 Saved his life initially, yes. Then tried to steal his life, and did a pretty good job of it. Carl and Dennis always had Brian's back, not just Dennis. I blame Landy for Brian's deficiencies that he's now living with. I would have liked to meet Landy in a dark alley and do a little bit to him to "thank" him for what he did to Brian.
@Eeohippus Thanks for your info! Whats your opinion about Carls and Brians relationship? Was Brians book written by a"Landyguy"? Cause in that book Brian is blaming all the other guys for letting him down. All the best!
@Eeohippus Hi again! I wish you could tell me more about the relationship between Brian and Dr Landy! My admiration for Brian is just getting bigger and bigger! Best regards
