how many adults do I need to keep the colony going and be able to harvest and feed off smaller roaches my reptile.. I ordered 30 but they arrived dead. I beleive this is because the guy put them all in one small tub and it took 3 days to arrive in the post, I think they gassed themself due to the over population? anyway, I got just 10 adults the other day, I already have some babies, looking good but I need to increase the size dramatically to have a good colony to harvest from.
@oldschooldude2 They are. They're the large egg crates that most restaurants have their eggs shipped in. It's the best housing asit provides plenty of room in a small space.
do you have to put vents in the containers you keep ytyhem in? vasaline around the top? and where did you put the heat mat.. Ive ordered approx 30 lobster roaches and plan to create my on breeders for feeders... lol..
@initiatededdeano No vents, best thing to do is cut a hole in the lid of the container, and then hot glue a screen mesh around it so that air can still get in. You don't need vasaline, just a couple layers of packing tape. I put mine around the rim and then about an inch below that. thy can't climb smooth surfaces but sometimes they pile on top of each other. The heat mat, you can place right below the container. I use a regular human heating pad without a shut off.
well, I started to have a go.... I ordered 30 adult roaches and they arrived in a tiny plastic livefood tub, I left them overnight in the tub and found them all dead in the morning... so miffed off...... I have started with just 10 now which I re-ordered... I thought I would practice first lol.. I have already had a few babies from them approx 15 or so..
what do you feed them? do they need water source or will they be ok if I pput fresh greens in daily or every other day?
I can totally vouch for Roachcolony. Bought some roaches a while back now and arrived really quick and all in great health. Have since had to split them over 3 tubs because they have just bred like wild fire. Great raoches and great Vids :-)

I like your setup. How often are you "harvesting" baby nymphs from the breeders to sort them into your small nymph tub?

@fdi150 hey, cheers, probably about once every 2-3 months... before they get too big :)

How do you keep them from getting loose in your house? And what is the point of having a roach colony?
(just curious, never heard of a roach colony before)
