  • i it seems to be very interesting

  • The master teach the student punch and kick. But why he forbid the student to defeat the enemy with punch and kick?

  • i get the idea. I ask my friend to give me a kick and he give a right front kick but i was ready blocking with my right hand right btween his in-step joints and it does hurt. I got another friend who says he had better training with his tkd kicks and i instinctively block wth my elbow and after awhile he was complaining of pain. U can use defense to literally stop a fight w/o even punching or kicking!

  • Why do they use marital art terms langue, insteed for formal japanese? :S

  • I saw this movie 2yrs ago and its a really good film, Japanese martial arts. Are about power

  • thas bullshit, anyone whit one week training in Kenjutsu wouldnt atack like that

  • @argentascorpio ...Hum...This is just a movie dude...

  • Even inside a great country (Japan), there's a conflict between two faction (police & karate dojo). And also inside the karate dojo, there is a conflict (between Giryu & Taikan). So I guess no matter how great we are, we can never avoid conflict.

  • Traditional techniques are always effective. Practising kata seriouslyand understanding the application is the main source of this power.

  • And stupid people in my city ask "what do you do if someone comes with a bat? scream?"

  • i do this karate.. goju ryu

  • For being non-traditionalists, the soldiers are still practicing traditional kenjutsu

  • Beautiful...love this movie!

  • I have trained whit taikan he has 6th DAN he own

  • this video shown that playing karate is a sport of soul highness first not for kill

  • very simple geidan pray

  • Akihito Yagi Sensei's shiko-dutch is increadable

  • I love the fight scenes in this movie. They aren't overtly flashy like HK martial arts movies. The fight scenes feel raw and believable. No offense to anyone, but I'm really tired of Jet li and Donnie Yen movies. I was so disappointed with Flashpoint after hearing so many people champion it as "realistic" but when I saw it I realized it was just another boring run of the mill MA movie with some grappling thrown in. -_-

  • Io l'ho visto .................bel film!

  • 2:07 that koken it's awesome :D

  • that es ko uke

  • i agree, i felt that hit the nerve too lol

  • no! they are using SUPERMEGAKILASERPOWER!

  • this can be true

  • ı just dont understand why you guys comparing these dudes with kendo and iaido applicants ... they are just soldiers who use swords .... not "do" praticioners...

  • not true.although the opponent with the Katana does have tyhe advantage,it is not unreslistic for the unarmed man to to win.matter fact the man with the weapon often times is so comfortable with the fact he's armed he takes his adversary for granted.happens all the time.

  • @xkaliber72 This is true. Karate was developed as a unarmed fighting system. With the proper training on can mount a effective defense against a armed attacker. the guy who said this pure fantasy, if you are able to dodge/evade the attack and jam up you armed opponent and prevent him from attacking you can defend you self. Karate teaches this and so does Jujitsu.

  • Does anyone know what the song name is?

  • One is an offensive fighter the other a defensive fighter, excellent demonstration of true traditional martial art, in this case karate.

  • True, but what's interesting is the lack of balance in each fighter. Taikan's lack of balance is obvious from the very beginning, he's way too aggressive. But as the movie goes on, we find that Giryu is way too passive, he wouldn't stand up for the family that took him in and nursed his wounds. Though both had great skill, they were still in need of maturity and balance.

  • Human nature, very difficult to achieve perfect balance especially under stress or combat pressure.

  • i agree, it is very difficult. but the best results come out when you keep you're cool and use your head.

  • i finally bought the movie and it was AMAZING. i have no problem watching it over and over again.

  • where did you get the movie?!

    please, let me know...

    thanks!

  • This movie is crazy going to buy this !!!!

  • wasnt he suposed to not hit and onlyd effend? i am confused.

  • He disobey the master. That's why the master made the other guy fight.

  • i live thi smovie for all of my heart

i go to aikido and i just had grading and japanese martial art is very deep.

  • Yes. It showed the first sign of deviation from Taikan. What Giryu showed is that you can still end a fight with a block.

  • every strike is a block,every block a strike.

  • @jalil124 my sensei would often say these same lines..

  • Why the cops use swords? What martial art they use when they don't swords?

  • Remember, this was set in 1940's Japan, right before WWII ended and Japan surrendered, so swords were still the norm for police/military. As to your second question, perhaps some of the old samurai arts like ju-jutsu or aiki-jutsu, since karate wasn't high on their priority list those days.

  • Noone was using iaido.........iaido is the art of drawing the sword and cutting in one motion its a battou-jutsu...these dudes already had there swords draw out, so its ken-jutsu or kendo only. you newbie lol

  • so i guess when the captain cut Choei his sword just magicly appeared and the scabbard was never there right? qwas that NOT drwaing his sword in a CUTTING MOITON? and you call me the newbie?? woww

  • they're using kendo

  • I think xkaliber72 put it in a way that they are using both iaido and kendo. kendo uses a Shinai, these japanesse cops are using katana swords. Both of you guys are correct, if i was learning how to use a katana sword then i would want to learn how to draw and cut and then also learn how to use it after the cut. what if there are more then one person you need to fight.

  • search Shito ryu, kata pinan nidan.

  • @roypeter347 pinan katas are used in most of teh styles.. in shotokan and kyokushin pinan is called heian

  • @vinodsreehari Pinan are also called pinan in Kyokushin karate Pinan sono ichi to pinan sono Go only pinan sono ichi= heian shodan= Pinan Nidan

  • I have to get this movie. When i googled it, I saw 2 movies with the same "Black Belt" Title 1 seems to be older. Is there any differnce?

  • Different movies

  • The japanese title is "Kuro Obi" -which translates to "black belt". not surprisingly there are other movies also called Black belt.

  • This is a little confusing. I do not speak Japanese fluently, but I think kuro means yellow. In Kyokushin, coloured belts, in order of ranking, are orengi (orange), mizuiro (blue), kuro (yellow), midori (green), and cha (brown). After that, each black belt is designated by a Japanese number placed next to the suffix -dan, i.e. shodan, nidan, sandan, yondan, godan, rockdan, shichi/nana-dan, hachidan, kudan, judan.

  • "Kuro" means black, I speak some Japanese.

  • i think there's an "i" missing, "kuroi" means black

  • "kuroi" means something "is black". Just plain "kuro" means black.

  • oh, i see, thnx

  • Kuro means black. Yellow is ki-iro. When you say it quick, it might sound a little similar. I speak Japanese fluently and work as a translator.

FYI "mizuiro" is light blue. Just plain blue is "ao".

  • Allright, thank you very much for the correction. I appreciate it.

  • why is yellow written with KI in front? does it mean MUCH KI or MUCH energy?

  • ki meaning yellow is 黄, but ki meaning energy is 気. Same reading, but different kanji.

  • thanks !

  • hi i really like to learn japanese do you know where i can buy lingaphones taht are good to help for learning japanese verbal language?

i do not need to learn the writing .

  • nope i am shore just make shore though

  • It's a Pinan Nidan at 1:52/2:22.

  • Well spotted !

  • What's a Pinan Nidan?

  • It is one of the central katas performed in Karate. It may be known by different names in different styles of Karate, but in essence, its movements are quite similar. In Kyokushin Karate, it is called 'Pinan sono Ni'.

  • so all the old type defenses and couteratack have they way too, when i trained karate i never figured out why they are used, this movies serves as a historical data.

  • A fight would not occur that way...

  • I have been looking for the english subtitle of this movie..Let me know please...thanks

  • its japanese for black belt
