It isn't painful...but they are alive. Why? Because there is still oxygen in their brain. You can see the same thing happen with a beheaded snake or fish. I don't agree with the death penalty...but I feel like lethal injection is much more "humane" (if you can even call murder that) than decapitation or hanging.

I'm no medical expert, but are the vials of liquid a bit big for real life? I mean, I don't see how its possible for that much liquid (It has to be at least 1.5 liters) to enter the bloodstream that quickly. It seems like there wouldn't be enough room for all the extra fluids. Also, wouldnt the IV's be under EXTREME pressure to inject that much liquid that fast? 5-6 seconds to empty a huge vial? The factuals of this scene are totally incorrect. It shows them injecting what looks like several litres of drugs into him. In real life, a few mL of the stuff in your blood stream is enough. The human body could not fit the amount of chemicals they show being injected in this scene.

@quick153 Oh, no. Hell no. The poison is supposed to kill him; the two injections before it were supposed to take away the pain from the poison. But Clyde changed a few numbers around in the control system and replaced the poison (which probably burns all by itself) with something much more potent.
