Damn dude, you are amazing bass player and I have to admit that UneXpect is already one of my favourite bands even tho I heard of it for the first time just about a month ago. Keep up the good work! ^^
You're a genius on the bass, and because of that, you're my favourite bassist. You guys blew me away in Toronto. Nice job on the newest album! Please inform us when UneXpecT is back in town. Thank you!
hey Chaoth, what do you think is the minimum number of strings needed to play this? Dou you think it would be possible to arrange it for a six string in standard tuning with some parts down an octave? or are you hitting the high strings too often?
@phunkymonk131 If you move everything played above the high C down an octave I think it would just about be playable though you'd be inverting some of the chords and it would sound wierd but could be cool! I think the majority of this is playable on a 6 string, though the intro-y bit would probably be at least a 7 to sound similar BUT doable on a 6
@Chao7H this song saved my life in so many ways im a unexpect fan from desert of urbania YOU GUY became MY FAVORITE BAND ever...your music is the closes thing i can relate to the song "words" is my drug ... i feel something so powerful starting up in me when i play that song . you guys are the most unique band alive \m/.....DONT STOP
ps:i tried playing this song on my classical guitar
Wow. That was great. The best 9 string I have found on youtube. All the othes just play the high end or mario brothers. I will now go find your album. Thanks!
@KCtheR3AP3R He's signaling (as you can see his lips move too) he is counting out the number of beats the note is held for/the number of beats/counts rest
Man you should upload some more of these. I really enjoy seeing how the bass part is played for these songs by the original writer, and not having to resort to the really amateur and half done covers that permeate youtube. XD
Wow, you'd expect a 9 string 8 finger tapping bassist to be more flash, but instead the extra strings and technique actually made something I'd listen to more than once. This sounds fantastic. Its not all death metal shredding and riffing on the f# and b string like many extended range players. Well done.
@guitartrombone6 Well there's no point in being an ERB player if you slug the F# and B half the time then blitz out as many and as high notes as possible! People could definitely learn from ChaotHs example!
How do you have your 9 string tuned? F# - Bb? How much do you use the bottom string?
I'm thinking about getting an 8 string made you see and i'm trying to decide whether to just go for a 9 or how to tune it (for the pickups and nut you see i'd rather get them right first time!) And you use your 9 string beautifully!
@AttitudeCastle Yo Yo Wotup... Indeed... tuning is 'regular' Fsharp to Bb... all fourths all the way. I don't use the bottom string that often, I end up hitting it 4 or 5 times in a full hour of set. Thanks for the nice words and, make sure to get a bass your comfortable playing. If you see the use for the extra string, go for it.
@Chao7H Oh one last question! (Sorry!) After numerous listens to this and the album, the tone is just awesome. Who makes the pickups? Or are the Bee Bass house pickups? The bottom end is awesome!
I would love to see you playing unsolved ideas ..., the bass on that track is pure awesomeness - especially from the "opera part" through the "crazy part" until this amazing variation of the chorus at the end! just wow.
@Kalopsia666 That's the best compliment ever... thanks much. That was the purpose to be honest. Using technique for the sake of music and not for the sake of technique.
Hey, Thank you all so much for the nice WORDS (yeah, I had to do it) but this video is really just about my hair...
So yeah, I might have another one coming. This is only a first, I will for sure put a couple more out either from UneXpecT's material or instructional shit... Requests and Ideas are welcome.
@Chao7H Do a lesson for this (at least the intro bit like up to the slapped part sort of bit) would be amazing. And a video like this and lesson if possible of Desert Urbania would be so cool :D
@Chao7H As a bass player I would be amazingly happy if you posted any songs, instructional videos etc. Anything really. Your technique is astounding and your feeling and passion behind what you choose to play and create is amazing. Like someone else said, its awesome to see someone play a 9 and actually use it to its fullest and use it to help the music rather then show off. Kudos my friend.
@Chao7H seriously, I'm not a real fan of this kind of music, you just made me think again. amazing stuff, adding to the music instead of killing it with skill as so many other 9 or 8 string players do...more please as far as an idea for something to do why not Rachmaninoff Prelude in C sharp, if that's not to far fetched, you can get the sheet music for free here; free-scores[.]com/download-sheet-music[.]php?pdf=9130#, hope you like the idea
So awesome. Most people I've seen with extended range basses make it seem like a novelty but with the seamless way you blend different techniques it couldn't be more natural. Amazing bass/player/band.
@BrombyDingus I agree, not only does he have an incredible technique, he also knows how to use it, e.g. unsolved ideas @ the amazing guitar riff (5:45), he just plays this great slow melody and gives the guitars their room.
I've been a metal fan for more than 20 years and just when I thought that I've heard everything, this already great band tops themselves with the greatest album EVER!
and they must be so proud of leilindel, who really outdid herself on this album.
