Americans don't complain about illegal immigration from Canada because such is virtually non-existent. But Canadians are complaining about the illegal from just south of their Canadian border!
I believe your observations are quite correct, as with your final synopsis BUT, really what decent parents are going to leave their child as they may get in trouble/deported? Something not right with that as it is #1!! Question beyond anything else.
Since it was not addressed. left open. the ICE or whomever was in the right(?) these things do not add up. WHY?
My guess is its a story/news because it show guilt, neglect & +- doing the right thing. cont....
@thevinend Go back in time before it was closed down the child would likely be imprisoned in Hutto. The insanity of this place was crazy, I recall yrs back OK for accuracy goog "Children are no longer required to wear prison uniforms and are allowed much more time outdoors"
I recalled this line as my jaw dropped, along with all the Nazi-esque stories surrounding the rounding up and deportation of, sick/dying, millitary veterans, pregnant women.
@lsi624 Have you been there? It is a pretty dangerous place (limited view) I recall going to Tikal and turned back at border, from Belize, as a common occurrence of a rouge group kidnapping, robbing, and killing ppl. Not a small group but, more like a millitary platoon.
That said, its likely the most tourist crossed border and I had to end plans of further travel inland. Wonderful people, avg citizens-a nicer more moral bunch you will not find in US! Very, very honest & trusting. True beauty.
Its in the news for a reason..As a government ( CBP in this case)...like everyone of you feel deserve..should take care of united citizen FIRST.. and only comes the enforcement ( since its a civil case not CRIMINAL).. If they could go against the law and deport ONE OF YOU..They can allow re-entry of an illegal alien as a discretion in this particular case.
1) Obey one law deporting her parents, disobey law by deporting USC...resulting inhumane situation or opposite resulting humane result.
my family and I are mixed US-Guatemalan. Watch how fast we will split to Guat. if the US ever institutes a draft and wants to send my "brown" son into war.
O, and border protection could have called me! I am a US citizen, live maybe 100 miles from that airport and could have met up with those parents. Not that I know them, but I'll bet there is a lot of unofficial hush-hush stuff for better connected people.
In defense of rednecks, the dysfunction and racism in US immigration policy was authored by Ted Kennedy; lessons learned: don't ride in his car nor let him write your immigration laws.
I am a redneck and I am for open immigration as only criminals and some diseased should be legally excluded from the US.
In this case, the law is an ass; both the girl and the parents (If they are not parasites) should be welcome in the US.
I think the child should have been sent to united states foster care, our foster care system is not ideal, in fact, there are a lot of bad stories from it, there are positives too though, i think the fact that she is only 4 would have had a good chance of adoption to a nice family, rather you agree or not with if she should or should not be an American is irrelevant, she is, I think she needs to be with parents who would claim her, also, there was most likly a reason why they had her born here
It is an absurd idea that somebody is AUTOMATICALLY a citizen if they were born in your country regardless of the circumstances. If your mother is a citizen and you are born in your country you should become a citizen. But being born in a country to parents who are not citizens should give no more right than to apply for citizenship, and if your parents were illegally present then that's a good reason to deny the request.
Where would Christianity be if everything born in a stable was a horse?
@adolthitler The children of citizens are citizens, although they may have the right to be citizens of another country. It is madness that where you happen to be born is significant to anybody. Citizenship should be a matter of commitment, not obstetric happenstance. If your parents are both citizens of country A and you are born in country B while your mother is in permanent residence there you should be free to choose either or both nationalities.
This is one point where my husband and I disagree.
I agree with you. Birth should not automatically make one a citizen. European countries do not allow that either. I cannot go to Germany, have a baby, and expect that Germany will give my child a citizenship. Germany will not do it. Neither will France or Switzerland. One parent must be a citizen.
I agree as well. I would like to hear your husband's opinion as to why he thinks they should automatically become a citizen.
Someone I know years ago that is a us citizen had her sister (a non us citizen) fly out here from another country just to have a baby. That lady had never been to the US before until she flew out to have her baby so it would be born in the US. After she had the baby she flew back home to her country. That is b.s., baby should not be a us citizen.
I really hate it when people do that. If they want to live in the US, participate in society then that is perfectly fine.
That kid will be able to come back to the US when ever, and reap social benefits his parents did nothing to build or create. This seems very wrong to me.
@NaomiChambers MartinJwillett youare idiots have you forgotten that you come from europe? you're not natives, mexicans are. you're probably some other low racists
You have just displayed your ignorance for the world to see. FIRST - I am actually Native American. SECOND - I live in Mexico THIRD - European countries do not give citizenships just because a baby was born in their country.
France, Germany, Holland, Switzerland require an infant have at least 1 parent who is a citizen or permanent resident.
@MartinJWillett It's not absurd. It's in the U.S. Constitution. The same document that allows people to carry guns, have freedom of speech and freedom of religion in this country. So absurd of the forefathers right?!? Right?!?
@cidisking At the time it was written there were no financial incentives to become an American citizen, it wasn't a valuable prize. No doubt if they were around today they would have come up with different rights. Not being a US citizen I am not obliged to regard these men as super-human paragons of wisdom, I see them as dead politicians, men of their own time.

What I find troubling is the parents thought it was more important to remain hidden in the US than to be with their daughter in Guatemala.
