Concerning the inexpensive camera for a younger child.... lets not forget the "hot deals" that will soon be out (Black Friday). With my experience, Best Buy always have cameras included in their door buster specials that would be a very reasonable solution, assuming you will be frequenting the store the day after Thanksgiving.

I really like Emma Stone, but Easy A sucked. I love movies, so walking out on a movie is rare. Unfortunately, I walked out on Easy A. Emma Stone was great in the movie, but the premise was dumb and some of the characters were cardboard cutouts.

HDDs aren't that expensive these days. even for notebooks. I'd follow Patrick's advice about backing up all the important data and use the laptop until the HDD fails or the entire system just stops working from old age and go from there.
