  • Does this really work?

  • @tinxtra23 Yes. Just ensure that the flame on the candle isn't small.

  • It really works! I thought that is was a joke:P. But the flames have to be big enough.

  • that is sooo cool!!

  • Works Awsome need 2 cylinder Candels make sure there spaced apart and make sure there light tho turn on ur wii and bam. :)

  • @Data4664 thx

  • it doesn't work at all.

  • @slb1998 Then you're doing it wrong. Either the flames aren't big enough, you spaced them out incorrectly, or they're being blocked by something.

  • So why DOES the remote need infrared light?

  • @etc0x It's just how Nintendo decided to utilize the technology. I'm not an expert on all of that =(

  • @etc0x because the wii remote tracks the point of the infared rays from the sensor bar. they used infared because they dident want the remote to track anything but the sensor

  • @etc0x for it not to bother your eyes, its a normal light...

  • blue dots wtf for me its red 0.0

  • @MrSwfan778 Technically, they're violet, but yours are red?? Maybe they're doing something new with the sensor bar?

  • It doesn't work for me? Can u help me?

  • @wtdvjp As long as the flames are normal size (not tiny) and are visible to the Wiimote, it should work fine. There's nothing more to it then that. Make sure that you have the option in the Wii set for where the candles actually are (above the TV or below).

  • @wtdvjp Here is a tip If you still have your normal sensor place where the candles are going and place the candles exactly how far apart his aare in the vid at first thats what I thought it was Bullshit But so I tried it again and it worked.

  • Some one got a lighter? Wanna play my Wii... :P

  • Once again, science has triumphed Nintendo, except this time it wasn't in a video game!

  • @Data4664 ty sir =)

  • You sir...have saved my life.

  • @amandathecat luls, ur welcome =)

  • it works :/

  • @xxcoolFreakxx O_O orly?

  • Cats chewed through our sensor bar wire and I stumbled across this video, and it worked! Time to stock up on candles :D

  • @JeffStaples1982 game on XD

  • @sobedragon0 Amazing how quickly you go through candles though...haha

  • Hello My fiance and I just tried the candle thing and it worked!!! Now we can play Mario Party 8!!!! Thanks man this really worked!

  • @trademark1213 No problem. Game on =D

  • Perhaps I was unclear. I was skeptical but it does indeed work. I used two tealights in front of the screen.

  • @schnelleralssie ohhh. Nice =D

  • @sobedragon0 so wut does it actually mean? im not to genius with the light band and crap so plz explain wut those fires giv off tht is required for the wii mote to work right?

  • @crystallyx The fire gives off infrared light, like most heat sources do. The front of your Wiimote is an infrared camera that only detects infrared light. That's how the coordinates of your Wiimote are communicated with the Wii.

  • I have to admit I was skeptical but damn if it doesn't work!

  • @schnelleralssie it works. Give it a shot.

  • I don't like those dark ritual games, it scares the shit out of me! I mean, dude! Look at those summoning candles! Please, stop playing that! You are only making apocalypse come sooner!

  • @AndreCunha1 I'm going to cast...magic missile!!! If you're a wizard of light, why do you need to cast magic missile??? hahahaha

  • @AndreCunha1 lols, summoning ifrit!

  • lol it works,i tried it,but the only problemm is the candels i have make alot of smoke, then it set of smoke alarm xD

  • Dose it have tobetotaly dark??? how far apart dothecandels need tobe? willit work with candles that are in glass.

  • @tagcheeta1992

No it does not need to be totally dark. They should be about as far apart as your sensor bar is long. Yes, it should work with candles that are in glass, provided there is nothing obstructing the flame (like a design on the glass or something).

  • Your assistant does indeed sound lovely, lol!

  • well tv need a candle but i found out that if u using a pc u dont need candles the wii remote work find with out the censor bar just hook up ur wii to a pc and it'll work i tryed no need candle for those who have a pc

  • IT WORKS!! lol, i put two extra candles for better detection :)

  • /sigh. Again, infrared light is invisible to the naked eye. The lens of the camera is what makes the light visible to us. Which is why, when you turn your sensor bar on...you see nothing. But if you look at it through a video camera, webcam, digital camera, etc...you'll see the light. The point of that statement was to illustrate that the sensor bar is only emitting invisible light...not transferring data/coordinates to the Wii. Any questions?

  • that is actually amazing im so shocked and didnt believe it would work :O

  • Yet Nintendo justifies charging $20 or so for a replacement sensor bar. I had no idea that they were just IR emitters. Hell, I could build one for a few dollars at most.

  • Yup. Nintendo (like most major corporations) will do whatever they can to make a buck.

Have you seen that video where the guy does head tracking with the Wiimote? In the video, he uses safety goggles with LED transmitters. Those would work just as well as candles or a sensor bar.

  • @DrNordo but if you go to gamestop there are these $20 dollar wireless sensor bars, I bought one before and it worked like a charm you didnt even have to hook it up to the wii my guess was that it synced with the wii, but it can even double the range of the normal motion bar, it was worth the $20 bucks

  • @bikinilover42

I got 2 candles on a stick and that worked better than the wireless sensor bar. It didnt need batteries or anything, either

  • @DrNordo

    20 isnt that bad man.

Realistically thats cheap for a corporate bar with warranties, and what not.

Microsoft would have charged you $49.99

Thumbs that one up if your tired of the bitching.

  • im out of candles will toasters work :)

  • haha, a toaster won't work. Although, I'm sure the heating elements in the toaster give off infrared light....hmmm....

  • wow, it works, I'm using it on my laptop, so awesome.

  • Basiclly the Sensor Bar is Nothing but just 2 sets of Infrared LED Lights. The Sensor Bar has nothing got to do with the wii console , the cable is just for power. In Candle Light there is a little bit of infrared light .& Yes it works on the bottom as well .

By the Way : Try Connecting the sensor bar and light alot of candles , the wii mote wiil be confused !

  • True. The Wiimote can get confused by multiple (or large) sources of infrared light. For example, if you're in a room where the sun is blazing down on your wiimote, you're going to see that spammy, skippy mouse hand on your screen. Shut the blinds if that happens and u should see an improvement.

  • THAT'S AMAZING!

  • can some1 explain to me how this works. i am so lost.

  • Does it work if you're placing it on bottom of screen?

  • Yup, you would just have to tell the wii that ur sensor bar is below the tv instead

  • Actually I think I'm gonna have to go with infrared lights on either side. The candles are just too....how you say.....fiery.

  • How well would it work on a 12 foot wide projection.

  • Provided you place the candles the same distance apart as the sensor bar lights, and that the flame is visible to the wiimote...should work the same.

  • How well would this work with a 12 foot wide projection?

  • shiiit it actually woooorks...tnx a loooooot ILU dude.....my sensor doesnt work, but im palying anyways...=D

  • Game on =)

  • Does having the candles make it more acurate?

  • No, it's about the same. You see how the dots are the same size in the sensitivity section? That means the flame is emitting about the same amount of infrared light as the sensor bar.

  • Then how come the sensor bar needs to be connected to the wii

  • The sensor bar does not "need" to be connected. I left it connected to demonstrate that the Wiimote can pick up on multiple sources of infrared light. That is demonstrated by the 4 dots on the screen.

To eliminate the 2 dots, my friend blew the candles out. If I wanted to, I could eliminate the other 2 dots by unplugging the sensor bar. Try it out sometime, it works perfectly fine =)

  • @edwierdo182 there are some wireless senor bars also, so the candles can be wireless also

  • does it work with any candle

  • Yes, as long as the flame is visible to the infrared camera in the wiimote

  • this works HOLY CRAP i'll make a video on this

  • my sensor bar doesnt light up

  • only a camera can see it...

  • omfg. is my wii mote goin crazy cuz i got the window opeN?

  • yerhh... my cord was vacuumed as well... now i have a wireless sensor bar that doesnt work good xD

  • same with me! The cord on my sensor bar ripped out after it got vacuumed, so I had to use candles until I got a new one

  • it is nice, if you could print on some pictures or photos on the candles it will be more pretty. i found one company have this type of candles and they have printer could do printing on candles. you could found them on 3W sinounic com

  • point you wii remote outside you will see a lot of sources or ir

  • So you're getting melted wax on your TV.

  • 0:30 But we're seeing that now.

  • you cant with your eyes you can when the camera is on

  • >_> Because the camera recorded it, like he said, you can't see it with your eyes. I figured that out when I was playing a game and saw it on a webcam in the background.

  • Better late then never I suppose. You're not looking at the sensor bar with your eyes, you're looking at it through the lens of my camera. The camera is what makes the light visible.

  • Why does everyone's sensor cords get vacuumed? Seriously, elevate your wires or something.

  • lol

  • omfg thankyou so much! my mum accidentally vaccumed up the cord and now i got a brilliant replacment! cheers!

  • Works like a champion... nice one :-)

  • 'If you happen to break the sensor bar"

My dad vacuumed the cord today -_- oh well least I can still use it

  • fucksake

  • o my god, i cant believe its true! i do see purple lites on my sensr bar when i take a video.OMG!!!!!

  • yes its like small LED lites it's werid :lol

  • I always thought is was like a mod someone made that really cool

  • i noticed that to

  • its easy... the Wiimote is a camera that senses Infrared Lights. and candles, flashlights, and laser pointers can transmit them.

i need bigger candles, the ones i used i have to be very close to the TV.

  • Awesome!!! :D

  • That is cool to try, I would not want to play it like that but it is a cool thing to show off.

  • At first I thought cool now I can Play when the power is out. But then I remembered that the TV and Wii take power. :(

Well this is still kinda cool.

  • LOL I THOUGHT THAT TOO

  • @ticalcmaster lol get a generator lol

  • thats fucking awsome

  • its really cool. just tried it in disbelief. amazing!

  • ii tried it too it works

  • they should rename the 'sensor'bar to like.. locatorbar or something. P:

  • OMG THANK YOU!!!! there are so many noobs who dont own a wii who are like "oh its bullshit".

Thank you for giving a full explanation.5/5

although i really wouldnt want candles lit all the time. its fun to try it though

  • legend of zelda :P

    thanks

    its awesome

  • cool!

  • actually i think the sensorbars are more like a locator that tells where the tv is. The sensor bars dont really 'sense' the movements. Therefore you can still use candle lights to show where the tv is.

  • umm it works monkeys ive already done it with my sensorbar unplugged so you phail/10

  • works it too when there´s NO sensorbar???

  • yes it does search on youtube you'll find people who do that

  • i used to think this was bullshit till i tryed harder to make it work and it does

  • yea i tried dat and it also works wit one candle

  • WTF??!!!

  • OMG THANKS SOO MUCH i ruind my sensor bar last night playin boxing!!! (it sliped and i broke the ruels and wasent waring me strap) i didnt belive u at first soo i was like..nahh im gonna try it..soo i did and it workes!!! its soo cool!! thanks man 5/5!!

  • thats pretty cool

  • The Sensor Bar doesnt do anything but emit infrared light. That is to say, it doesnt pick up any signals. The Wii remote picks up the light given by the "sensor bar" and uses that for positioning. The sensor bar doesnt sense anything.

  • very cool

  • seriously, how the fuk does this work? someone explain in clearer terms please.

  • The Wii interprets infrared light, which is given off by candles along with visible light

  • The Wii bar is nothing more then transfer light. That's all. The Wii-mote is actually connected by Bluetooth. The light works more like a light barrier

  • Just wondering, how do the candles pick up the Wiimote? I'm not going to destroy my sensor bar, but that makes me curiouse.

  • D'oh, sorry for the 2 replies as well.

  • How do the candles pick up the sensors or whatever. Of course, I won't purposly destroy my sensor bar, I'm just wondering how thats possable.

  • sweet

  • So technically you can control the Wiimote sensitivity by moving the candles fatrher apart and closer together? In theory it could work.

  • That's amazing! Now there's no need for a wireless sensor bar, unless you don't want to burn your TV :P

I'm sure this technizque could be easily modified to not be a fire hazard.

  • Infrared LEDs, ftw...

  • Thats almost cool enough to make me buy a Wii.

  • I did not know that...thx for the advice!!

  • thats bloody awsome

  • That's crazy! Thanks for the info :D

  • thank you. very enlightening.
