Wow the coolest theme song for an American cop show. The very first note is like zeroing in on a villain or a map, coupled with that gun-shot style hit sound of the music. Unbeatable !! Then add a sizzling dame that obviously doesn't go to the doughnut shop with the boys and presto another winner. She is so feminine and softly spoken it intoxicates many a man. YEAH

I can remember being furious when ITV in the UK stopped showing Police Woman on Saturday evenings. Video didn't exist in those days and I thought I'd never see this opening sequence or hear the music again.
Why is it when I try to relive some of my favorite Seventies moments on Youtube, such as Mott the Hoople and Rudy Ray Moore, someone pops race comments? To me, that decade, with P-Funk and AWB, was less polarized than it is now. Very sad.

You can't judge the lingo you may hear during those shows. Those were very colorful times. If you were around back then, you would understand that. Intergration was still very much a new thing. And black people were being called much worst. And I don't mean on TV, but walking down the street. But black people continued to support and watch shows back then, even knowing the fact that very talented black actors could only get steriotypical roles. A few years ago I bought the first series on DVD and was very, very surprised at how little it had dated. For its time, this was a very gritty and very violent show; and apart from one or two clunkers, all of season one's episodes are as fresh today as they were when they were first broadcast in the 70s'. This has been in my 'favourites' for a few years. I've just seen how many people have viewed it in the 4 years it's been on YouTube - 1,270,839. Wow. Clearly a very memorable theme tune for a lot of people.
I can remember being furious when ITV in the UK stopped showing Police Woman on Saturday evenings. Video didn't exist in those days and I thought I'd never see this opening sequence or hear the music again.

As a straight woman who grew up in the 60s/70s - I got to say Angie Dickinson is one of the sexiest women ever. I remember I never missed Policewoman when it was shown here in the UK. It was usually on around 11pm on Friday nights and I had a regular babysitter then. You can't judge the lingo you may hear during those shows. Those were very colorful times. If you were around back then, you would understand that. Intergration was still very much a new thing. And black people were being called much worst. And I don't mean on TV, but walking down the street. But black people continued to support and watch shows back then, even knowing the fact that very talented black actors could only get steriotypical roles. So many people paved the way for jay-z, etc ok!

A few years ago I bought the first series on DVD and was very, very surprised at how little it had dated. For its time, this was a very gritty and very violent show; and apart from one or two clunkers, all of season one's episodes are as fresh today as they were when they were first broadcast in the 70s'. Man, I'm becoming as old as dirt. I was probably only about 5 yrs old when this was on prime time but I can still recall the dramatic close up of her legs and that unmistakable theme music. I was never into Angie Dickson so I didn't relate to all the hype about her sex appeal. Johnny Carson liked her quite a bit, though. Those two would comes close to screwing each other on stage, whenever she was a guest on The Tonight Show. Can't believe she's almost 80 now. Cue my mid-life crises

@doctorw2 Sorry, buddy. They used a body-double for Dickinson's shower scenes. I never understood all the hype over Angie Dickinson. To me, she seemed like an ordinary middle aged woman. Some of my friends, however, shared your obsession. Whenever Dressed To Kill would come on HBO they'd stare at the screen like guys in a porn theater . If I'm not mistaken, the other actress in that film was also considered "wank material".

Rather ironic, this program hit the airways just about the time the police woman hit the endangered list. today the active police woman is gone and their are fewer and fewer female officers who started out as police women every year. Unfortunately, the feminists of the era didn't "get" how important it was, and all they saw was Angie in spandex, so they complained to NBC; as a result, the show, and Angie, was toned down after Season 1 -- easily the best year.
