this cover sucks balls man. im honestly not even trolling or anything. its nothing compared to the who and really, the ramones could do better. the sex pistols were like the rolling stones. they're pretty much all image and a bit overrated. sid vicious is a very poor punk vocalist and i know its all about anarchy "they dont give a shit" all that. but come on. the clash were punk and stood for the same things, but were great at the music they made.
@Rogginroll The difference is, the sex pistols weren't trying to be great. they achieved far more than any of the other punk bands did. Johnny Rotten's lyrics were brilliant even if his voice had much to be desired for. They weren't about making good music, they were about anger and changing the old system and that's exactly what they achieved. Watch "The filth and the fury", "the Great rock and roll swindle" and "Who killed bill?" might help you understand more what they were about
@NoNoseProduction Or so Malcolm McClaren would have you believe. they did a gig in huddersfield for the children of Firemen, got given a £600 cheque... that they never cashed in, they tore it up. Really sounds like they were just out to make money there. Don't take all your information from the Great Rock and Roll Swindle, watch them all.
@Mixedia didn't say I believed it. Just you listed that movie as a source. And clearly that source is terrible. Johnny Rotten didn't star in it and admittedly saw it as misinformation. Filth and the fury he supports, which is next on my watch list. But yeah, I'm just saying, its a decent movie for some punk culture but as a source, its terrible. OR extremely accurate. Who knows, I wasn't in the band or around in that era.
@NoNoseProduction yeah hehe, me neither. But I have been warned to take anything McClaren says with a couple of table-spoons of salt, not just a pinch!! maybe I got the wrong source... I'm doing Sex Pistols for my dissertation so have recently watched the rock and roll swindle, filth and fury and Who killed Bill as well as reading a few sources. Who killed bill is probably best to watch as it's all real and not the fictional work of julie temple
@Mixedia mmm I'll take a look. But yeah they were pure attitude and just being as disgusting and degenerative as possible. But with some amazing lyrics.
@NoNoseProduction and some real ego, who else could rhyme the word "Antichrist" with "Anarchist" but Johnny Rotten? xD I wasn't that bothered about them until I started my research, but the more you look into what rotten was trying to make them be you realise they were actually a really amazing band that did a lot for society, even if it did just look all shocking and gross, it wasn't just about that.
excellent and the best cover of the who's song , fucking awesome , i have a video alternate too this but i feel this version has had more work put in to it great work man !!!!!!!
@opheliadvinci It doesn't sound like the pistols only in so far as people are used to 'Never Mind the Bollocks', a brilliantly produced album which, with it's mulitple layering of Jones' guitar work in particular, and the almost non-existent bass sound (since they'd lost Glenn by then who was actually a very good bassist) means that it sounds completely different from any of the various live bootlegs you can hear.

This shit here? Total, beautiful, just barely controlled pandemonium it is. Must have been ecstasy to be at those early Pistols gigs. They were changing the world, but they hardly realized it at the time. Oh, I know, they knew they were changing rock and roll, yeah, I agree! But the world has never been the same since these early gigs.
@opheliadvinci how could this be fake?? its definately the sex pistols. you can totally hear johnny singing. it was usen on the great rock n roll swindle and also the filth and the fury. you must not know the pistols at all.
@opheliadvinci It's definitely the Pistols. It's a mix subsequent to the initial four track monitor mix with guitar overdubs and additional Rotten vocals - Wessex Studios. Most of the live footage is The Blues Loft, High Wycombe 2/9/76 (audio exists but Temple didn't use it in the film as he felt it was substandard) and 100 Club (filmed by Boogie) as well as the usual Notre Dame Hall with Glen and the back of Sid's head!
@opheliadvinci Hahahaha! Dude, it's you who has been fooled.
I know my music but you clearly don't. This track is on the album
'The Great Rock 'n' Roll Swindle' the song itself being originally recorded in October 1976.
I can't believe someone actually thinks this song is fake, it's probably the most ridiculously funniest thing i've ever heard someone saying on one of my posts. I hope you're prepared for the fallout XD

@angbayemay Every band you listen to and every thing you believe in sucks ass. If you don't like this it's because you're a pussy who can't handle extreme rock and roll.
this is punk at its uncut, raw, best...you can just feel the energy coming through your screen...it makes your blood pressure rise, you feel like beating on something (or someone), its strange how similar circumstances don't necessarily spawn a fantastic new breed of music and performers..(today like 70's UK, bad economy, no jobs, rampant govt. corruption), where is today's sex pistols??? especially in the usa???
@mcs32jr1968@mcs32jr1968 Well just look at how many views this has. Only 100,000 people in the world have seen this video. If you put all of us in a room together, you'd have another movement. But people who want to play extreme rock and roll music are to far dispersed.
Who gives a shit? Hippies are smelly fucking sex addicts who sit in parks and smoke pot. Punks are people who do whatever the hell they want whenever the fuck they want. I like punks a lot more than hippies, but that's just my opinion. Society wouldn't be what it is today without either cultures. Now everyone grow a pair and listen to the fucking music, would ya'?
Speaking as someone who remembers the whole scene back then, punk started back in the 60's with iggy and the stooges you could say and progressed through to the new york dolls who the pistols ripped off alot..but the pistols made it political...the whole fasion Jamie Rieds typography and art along with viv Westwoods sex shop, where lydon and the boys would hang out..punk was a reactio against the likes of Pink Floyed and Fleetwood Mac who were tax exiles..and sstadium rock....please add to this..
I don't know where all this arguing about punk vs. hippie started, but I hope it has nothing to do with The Who playing Woodstock. I mean, c'mon, you guys wouldn't dare to say that The Who is fucking hippie.
awesome..although heavily overdubbed guitars and B/vox at a later date..I just love the pistols take on this track..they coulda written this sort of sentiment easy in 76 and it's nice to see a hat nod to where they were coming from..great stuff!
It's interesting but I think the The Who may be the only 60s band whose music was somewhat embraced by the punk movement. I don't think any other 60s band's music held anything that punks identified with. I could be wrong, but Substitute and My Generation were certainly popular songs with punk bands. Were any other 60s bands covered by the punks? Does anyone know. It seems more like the punks mostly were rebelling against 60s bands like the Beatles and the Stones et al.
@jackiechampion in 78, a year after the big "Punk Explosion", came out the Mod Revival that basically was composed by cool suit-dressed punks which played a 60's inspired punk-rock/powerpop
try stuff like The Jam, The Chords, The Action, The Merton Parkas etc..
The punks hated the hippies, but it was only because of the tolerance of the 1960s and 70s that punk could have happened. The hippies broke down the door ten years earlier that allowed bands like the Sex Pistols, etc. If there was no Woodstock or Summer of Love, the punk movement would have been killed in the foetus.
Broke down the door? Oh! Is that why it was so easy for punk bands to get a record deal, and to be invited onto TV. You sound like someone who fools themselves on a regular basis, but you won't fool anyone else into believing that bullshit.
@rp61wasinnocentok - amen! hippies are scum! all free love and fake political bullshit. the sex pistols were fucking REAL. no hippie could ever understand that.
@ToriiHunterFan Its true that many hippies were spoiled privileged kids, just getting high and having sex, that went on to become soulless yuppies.
But other hippies were involved in social and political activism.
If you listen to the words of some "hippie" artists, some were talking about corporatism and commercialism, conformity, fascism, materialism etc too. Read what Hendrix, or John Lennon had to say- some similarities to what the punks would later rebel against.
Look nob'ead, I like hippies. But they didn't break down any fucking doors. It was the punk movement that changed everything.
Hippies just got stoned all the time,
had free sex with anything that moved,
and said "peace" a lot.
Punks gave everyone a reality check,
told it how it was, and took no bullshit.
And then there was the music that has inspired and influenced many a great band since. The 60's had a lot to offer musically, and was a great period, but that was it...
@rp61wasinnocentok punks didn't do shit. they did less or just about as much as hippies did. it was a fad and it was music. punks are just violent hippies.
@CFFDan Dude you're 18, so i'm not going into something you would have no first hand experience of. Why can't you people just watch stuff without getting into, or starting shit you know nothing about. I feel your knowledge derives from watching old footage, and have made the classic mistake of assumption.
And yeah, even I always said punks were/are angry hippies, but anger doesn't necessarily mean violent. Just leave it be...
@rp61wasinnocentok , agreed mate, look back at 1976+, there was a lot to be angry about, a bit like now, but noone will speak up for us working class like that ever again.
Punk was needed, punk has a place in the natural progression of music.
@rp61wasinnocentok This is really a useless argument to be posted for this video. They are covering a who song, and the who weren't even hippies; they were too angry and aggressive for that...they were just always invited to the big festivals back in the day because they were fucking awesome. They are also probably one of the sex pistols biggest influences...and yes the who did break down a lot doors (as well as other things) whether you would like to admit it or not.
@TheBcx4 Show me where I called The Who hippies, I think you'll find I didn't. I totally respect bands like The Who, real bands that had/have something to say whatever genre they might find themselves being slapped into. I also said I like hippies, I think punks were just an angrier version/movement of that. I believe this because I lived through it...
The Sex Pistols rewrote the British national anthem to express how the lower class felt about the status quo, they then turned that single into the #1 single in the UK for it's release week, that single is also considered to be the most heavily censored record in the UK's history, they disrupted the queen's silver jubilee and forced their way out of national censorship by playing a show on a boat outside the houses of fucking parliament. They've done more than you ever will.
@ThisisMikeswar And after all of that, nothing happened. a bunch of kids joined in because it looked cool and it was. thats all punk ever was and ever will be. I don't care one fucking bit if they have done more then I will and thats not even really a valid point in this.
The same can be said about ANY music force in the history of man kind. Just because something got watered down and ruined over time doesn't mean that it's originators didn't change things, because they did. If your band went from being called the most heavily censored bands in the history of rock to being one of the most influential bands of all time I'm pretty sure you've achieved something.
@ThisisMikeswar Thats all fine and well but in the end I don't think anything was really changed. If you can prove that they really did have any real political power or anything else and actually made a change I will stfu and admit my wrongness. Otherwise they are just another awesome (punk) band
@CFFDan You're just saying that because both were subcultures of rebellion. They have nothing in common other than that (and drugs). Both are based heavily on their music, and their ideals. Hippie ideals (peace, love, etc.) and music (about the same) are extremely different from the Punk ideals and music, which is centered around telling people to fuck off, and kicking them in the face for not doing so.
@rp61wasinnocentok not all hippies said peace all the time. they started more riots than any other generation. just look at berkley and ohio state university.
From the 50's to the 80's, the hippies were the least rebellious of the generations. They smoked weed and grew beards and thought they were rebelling. Their complacency is only now matched by the scenes, emos, and hip hop thugs.
Bullshit....the punks came before the Hippies....The Hippies started in 1967...summer of love....Punk Rock got it's start with the garage bands of 1963-1966 i e Kingsmen, McCoys, Standells, Sonics, et al. In fact Lester Bangs coined the term Punk Rock in Creem Magazine WAY before these gobs were even out of Junior High!
Sorry people but I prefer this version although I am desperately in love with The Who. Nah, just kidding I'm not all that sorry. Besides Johnny Rotten did like Oscar Wilde...
@rp61wasinnocentok The Who love it? The own Pete admitted that the Sex Pistols were taking the place of The Who and other bands. And he doesn't like it. He almost fought with some of these guys (when he were drunk). - Amazing Journey: The Story of The Who
Love the song, love the movie, and fucking love the band! Always wondered what gig(s) the footage comes from, if anyone has any info, it would be greatly appreciated!
los sex pistols son lo mejor no como otros por ejemplo green day que se cree punk mientras que son happy punk y mas ahora con 21 century breack down los sex pistols son lo megor pero antes los RAMONES
In the words of Noel Gallagher the music scene would have been quite scary if it hadnt been for the Pistols. Great song. Love the Who. BTW, The Ramones cover sucks !!!!just as much as they did.!!!!!!
@dannyrod76 - amen, danny! i'm an american and i'll be the first to say the pistols were the ONLY true punk band and the ramones fucking SUCKED. not to give away my location too much to those that hate me on the tube, but i live across the street from the cemetery where johnny ramone is buried. SO TEMPTED to go piss on his grave every night. haven't worked up the courage yet though :D
lol if you really think about it...the sex pistols were just classic rock musicians with a little more distortion and a lot of vulgarity. hard to see what the big deal about them was...you know, in retrospect
Yeah I think the majority of it was because of the look,
it just kinda scared people, if you were kickin' about them days you'll know what I mean. And the attitude that went along with it scared them even more, no-one quite knew where the hell this thing was going.
The great thing about punk was it changed music totally. New bands are still influenced by punk music. When it happened, anyone who was serious about music took it to their hearts & rightly takes pride of place in music's history.
ok the who are shit for one there guitar player is a kiddie filddler and they had 2 decent songs in the 60s. the kinks shit on them along with the small faces
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
what a fackin piece of shit how could they even think of covering a who song the only reason im watching this is to say how wrong this is. the who are the greatest rock band ever and the sex pistols are garbage
@rp61wasinnocentok "Creation notice: This is to let YouTube, Google or whoever know that I created this video" Bollox, you did, you nicked the video footage from somewhere else (looks like Don Letts punk rock movie or some such ) and the song is the Pistols. Dont claim you created someone elses work when all you did was rearrange and badly lip-sync some old footage with a backing track using some vid editing software, - fucking lame faker.
Oh dear, you seem to have taken that too literally.
I use that on all videos I put together (created)
And if you were around on YouTube 2 years ago you'd know why.
Yes i've cut and edited footage together, it's what people here on YouTube do, everybody knows that. In fact by saying all i've done is to rearrange old footage to a song using video editing software, is frankly just stating the bleeding obvious. And you're unwittingly insulting viewers for not knowing this.
All the footage used here is from a Pistols documentary, and yes, in there was some Don Letts stuff. But to stop any future confusion, i'll address this in my descriptions.
@rp61wasinnocentok - honestly, not joking. i have a seething, seething hatred for the ramones, and most especially, all the morons who wear their shirts around town. actually, it's the girls that wear them that bug me the most. the ramones are the "i'm trying to look cool but actually have no idea what i'm doing" staple. like i said, i haven't worked up the balls to do it and probably never will. but it's right there....taunting me....
@rp61wasinnocentok - it appears i commented on this video four months ago. my views have not changed. oh well. still love ya for posting it. always will. guess i'll end up here in another four months, eh?
It's not crap, it's punk. It's not about holdning a clear note, and being a brilliant musician.. it's about expressing yourself, and having fun.. God, why so serious..?
goodsand, are you completely insane yourself? Johnny Rotten is one of the sanest, most clearheaded and honest men in the entire world. And he's angry too! LOL. Of course, when you have the best punk guitarist in history pushing you on, you might sound a little manic, yep, I'd say so...
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
this version is fucking horrible the vocalist is the worst singer ive ever heard fucking punks punks, emos, goths and all the rest of the trends have shit in common all of them like shitty music
i appear to be talking trash yet you cant explain why and you have the need to defend and worship some stupid retarded trend and a shit cover for an actual good song, yea im not going to lose my account for being racist chink chink chink chink chink chink chink
And you're the one who feels the need to disrespect everything under the sun. Why don't you just face the fact that you are a miserable son of a bitch.
You won't win this battle, and this time I will tell you why,
You don't need permission for anything. Fucking love it

awesome..although heavily overdubbed guitars and B/vox at a later date..I just love the pistols take on this track..they coulda written this sort of sentiment easy in 76 and it's nice to see a hat nod to where they were coming from..great stuff!

It seems more like the punks mostly were rebelling against 60s bands like the Beatles and the Stones et al.
jackiechampion 1 year ago
@jackiechampion in 78, a year after the big "Punk Explosion", came out the Mod Revival that basically was composed by cool suit-dressed punks which played a 60's inspired punk-rock/powerpop
try stuff like The Jam, The Chords, The Action, The Merton Parkas etc..

MetalPunkGirls666 1 year ago
The punks hated the hippies, but it was only because of the tolerance of the 1960s and 70s that punk could have happened. The hippies broke down the door ten years earlier that allowed bands like the Sex Pistols, etc. If there was no Woodstock or Summer of Love, the punk movement would have been killed in the foetus.
ebonics4everyone 1 year ago
@ebonics4everyone You are kidding, right?
Broke down the door? Oh! Is that why it was so easy for punk bands to get a record deal, and to be invited onto TV. You sound like someone who fools themselves on a regular basis, but you won't fool anyone else into believing that bullshit.
rp61wasinnocentok 1 year ago 22
@rp61wasinnocentok - amen! hippies are scum! all free love and fake political bullshit. the sex pistols were fucking REAL. no hippie could ever understand that.
ToriiHunterFan 1 year ago
@ToriiHunterFan Its true that many hippies were spoiled privileged kids, just getting high and having sex, that went on to become soulless yuppies.
But other hippies were involved in social and political activism.
If you listen to the words of some "hippie" artists, some were talking about corporatism and commercialism, conformity, fascism, materialism etc too. Read what Hendrix, or John Lennon had to say- some similarities to what the punks would later rebel against.

@SnakesBlues
The 60's had a lot to offer musically, and was a great period, but that was it...
rp61wasinnocentok 1 year ago 11
@rp61wasinnocentok punks didn't do shit. they did less or just about as much as hippies did. it was a fad and it was music. punks are just violent hippies.
CFFDan 1 year ago 2
@CFFDan Dude you're 18, so i'm not going into something you would have no first hand experience of. Why can't you people just watch stuff without getting into, or starting shit you know nothing about. I feel your knowledge derives from watching old footage, and have made the classic mistake of assumption.
And yeah, even I always said punks were/are angry hippies, but anger doesn't necessarily mean violent. Just leave it be...

Utterbach 9 months ago
@rp61wasinnocentok This is really a useless argument to be posted for this video. They are covering a who song, and the who weren't even hippies; they were too angry and aggressive for that...they were just always invited to the big festivals back in the day because they were fucking awesome. They are also probably one of the sex pistols biggest influences...and yes the who did break down a lot doors (as well as other things) whether you would like to admit it or not.
TheBcx4 9 months ago
@TheBcx4 Show me where I called The Who hippies, I think you'll find I didn't. I totally respect bands like The Who, real bands that had/have something to say whatever genre they might find themselves being slapped into. I also said I like hippies, I think punks were just an angrier version/movement of that. I believe this because I lived through it...

@CFFDan
ThisisMikeswar 1 year ago
@ThisisMikeswar And after all of that, nothing happened. a bunch of kids joined in because it looked cool and it was. thats all punk ever was and ever will be. I don't care one fucking bit if they have done more then I will and thats not even really a valid point in this.
CFFDan 1 year ago
@CFFDan
ThisisMikeswar 1 year ago
@ThisisMikeswar Thats all fine and well but in the end I don't think anything was really changed. If you can prove that they really did have any real political power or anything else and actually made a change I will stfu and admit my wrongness. Otherwise they are just another awesome (punk) band
CFFDan 1 year ago
@CFFDan Punks inspired a shit load of bands, musicians, and ideas. Hippies created the idea that doing drugs make you "cool" fuck that.
PBANDSNOW 10 months ago
@CFFDan You're just saying that because both were subcultures of rebellion. They have nothing in common other than that (and drugs). Both are based heavily on their music, and their ideals. Hippie ideals (peace, love, etc.) and music (about the same) are extremely different from the Punk ideals and music, which is centered around telling people to fuck off, and kicking them in the face for not doing so.

Charlie200971 10 months ago
@ebonics4everyone
From the 50's to the 80's, the hippies were the least rebellious of the generations. They smoked weed and grew beards and thought they were rebelling. Their complacency is only now matched by the scenes, emos, and hip hop thugs.
JimmyDFFDBorneo 1 year ago
@ebonics4everyone I agree- the social changes that happened in the late 60's early 70's, helped create an environment where punk rock could develop.

In fact Lester Bangs coined the term Punk Rock in Creem Magazine WAY before these gobs were even out of Junior High!

lol if you really think about it...the sex pistols were just classic rock musicians with a little more distortion and a lot of vulgarity. hard to see what the big deal about them was...you know, in retrospect
devodrummer 1 year ago
Yeah I think the majority of it was because of the look,
it just kinda scared people, if you were kickin' about them days you'll know what I mean. And the attitude that went along with it scared them even more, no-one quite knew where the hell this thing was going.
The great thing about punk was it changed music totally. New bands are still influenced by punk music. When it happened, anyone who was serious about music took it to their hearts & rightly takes pride of place in music's history.

StevePoohStick 1 year ago
Oh dear, you seem to have taken that too literally.
I use that on all videos I put together (created)
And if you were around on YouTube 2 years ago you'd know why.
Yes i've cut and edited footage together, it's what people here on YouTube do, everybody knows that. In fact by saying all i've done is to rearrange old footage to a song using video editing software, is frankly just stating the bleeding obvious. And you're unwittingly insulting viewers for not knowing this.
rp61wasinnocentok 1 year ago
All the footage used here is from a Pistols documentary, and yes, in there was some Don Letts stuff. But to stop any future confusion, i'll address this in my descriptions.
