wow. What a strong bond you two must share, I can't imagine all the patience and effort you two put into training. Any advice to a first timer. I taught him to kick out his front leg (which ever I tap). Would that be a beginning of a spanish walk possibly? Wanna share your secrets.

Thank you:) That would be a very good start of the spanish walk, yes... Try to walk forward after one 'step', then make him take one step with the other fot, and reward.. And advance. Good luck!

OMG I love how you got the horse to do so much I only break horses how do you teach them tricks. I have a foal coming in April and I would love to have a horse that would do some of that stuff. AWSOME WORK!! TRUELY AMAZING!!!!

aww very gd, amazing pony, i used2 do savvy with my ponies until i started competing, so now im more focused on training4 sj etc, bt stil luv2 teach them tricks, the key 2my ponies r treats lmao, however i taught only1 of them2 lay down, as smudge, my cob, will not go down at all, iv taught him2 bow bt he doesnt stay down4 long so he doesnt really giv me a chance2 guidehim down further, jus wunderd if u new another way of teaching it???????? :D

She is just 5 years old(just stared to ride her:) ), and I have trained her since she was to months old. Started tricktraining when she was about 2 1/2-3 years:)

First of all, you have to mutual respect and total trust between you and your horse:) (Natural Horsemanship is a key word here)

What I did was to teach Katla to backup when I touched her right over her front legs.. When she did this with just with a light  touch, I took up one of her front legs(ONLY to make her understand that she was not to just back up this time, not to force her to the ground!)

Then she kneeled (most horses just lean backwards, but just practise and they'll get it).. I did this a couple of times and then I put more pressure on her(Just holding my hand there even thought she did the right thing.. ) Then she kneeled with both foots. Then it was only to lead her down:) And by repeating this, I gradually started to use the whip instead of my hand. And now she lay down with just a single touch of the whip over her front legs..

But I would not recommend doing this without have a lot of knowledge about horsemanship..

And some horses use moths to lay down, other just need a day.. Be patient, a horse can't understand deadlines, and remember; To force a horse to lay down, only proves that you can force a horse to lay down.

Any fool can use force, but the wise use grace!

I have trained my horse using mainly NH techniques, and we've used the exact technique you described here, although he does a whole lot of leaning without dropping down, I think the only thing I can do is dedicate more practice time and do just that- practice!
