Eventualmente posso parlare anche in un'altra varietà del dialetto ticinese, quella della Val Colla, un po' più colorita della varietà luganese.

This is the way to ring for feasts, for normal days we pull the rope (you find also a video of this bell swinging).
If you watch my videos you can find many different ways to ring bells. Many of these are with no-swinging bells, because I usually ring bells for patronal feasts.
Almost all belltowers in Ticino have their own way to ring for feasts. In Curtina there is only one bell and we ring so.
Another method to ring bells for feasts is the "suonata a concerto".
Curtina is a very small and quiet village (it has surely fewer than 50 people) and all people can hear it. It was the patron saint of the church and nearly all inhabitants were there.
This method to ring (with a stone/hammer and the clapper) is used in some belltowers. You can hear it also in the videos of Treggia, Campestro and Cagiallo.
io credo che le campane rischiano di rompersi solo se percosse sotto il bordo di battuta. In friuli hanno realizzato uno speciale battaglio che, da ferme, perquote le campane anche sulla terza superiore in modo da ottenere sei suoni con sole tre campane.
La campana è progettata del fonditore per essere percossa solo sul bordo di battuta, dove è più spessa e resistente, gli altri punti sono più sottili e delicati.
Alcune tradizioni, magari nate per ignoranza (nel senso di mancate conoscenze in merito a pratiche possibilmente dannose alla campana) andrebbero "addolcite" oggi che c'è più conoscenza... Il "sasso" può anche esser fatto con materiali meno pericolosi... legno duro, plastica spessa...
Per produrre un suono udibile anche fuori dal campanile è necessario picchiare così: la campana è molto spessa. Avevo con me un altro sasso un po' meno duro e praticamente il suono del batacchio copriva i colpi del sasso. Figurati con un martello di legno, avrei dovuto mettere un megafono per far sentire la suonata sul sagrato!

But, if you ring like that, surely the people can't hear it... It's not loud enough.
In Holland, when feastdays, we just ring f.e. 5 bells in stead of 4 bells.

But there are many others methods; i say you some examples of my videos:
striking the clappers by hand: Piandera, Signôra, ...
ringing by a keyboard (a sort of rudimental carillon): Golino, Monte, ...
pulling ropes or chains fastened to the clappers: Lionza, Cimalmotto (the big bell is rung by a foot), ...
"concerto": Monte, Golino, Cadro, Tesserete, ...
The bells' normal swinging's name is "distesa": Colla, Sonvico, Robasacco, ...

All this methods are traditional, I have invented nothing.
