Hi, I am taking my Ixus870/sd880 on a camping trip, and wanted to use a portable solar charger to recharge the battery. However, I am not sure if this can work with the sd880, since I believe that the battery can only be recharged using the external charger, which uses power directly from a socket. Does anyone have an idea on how I can get this to work? Thx.
yeah nice review, but what's really really outstanding 'bout it is your beautiful voice, it's so damn relaxing, you're english is so cool, it ain't my native language but still ii was quite clear for me.
...well talking about the camera which is supposed the main subject here :D, i really like this camera, i bought it after checking a couple of reviews (including yours), and i'm glad. I enjoy pretty much taking pics and i'm always looking for good tips to improve my shoots
this is my hotmail : mv_illalobos , maybe we can share a couple of interesting things. thank you
how do u upload the video using that camera here on youtube? ... ".MOV file" cannot be uploaded? .. do I have to convert it or is there a tool in the cd supplied that would automatically convert the file to avi, wmv or others?..
Unfortunately not. This camera does not have a high-definition (1280x720) moviemode. Resolution does not go further than 640x480 with this one. If you want a small compact camera which does support high-definition, then check out the Panasonic FX35. This camera does not have any zoom (not even digital) in moviemode, however, the reviews are good and you do have high-definition.
It's kind of hard to tell; I only have the Ixus 870, which I am very pleased with, but the FX35 has some pretty cool features, too. Cameralabs has a review on the Ixus870/sd880; at the end they directly compare it to the FX35. What I like about the Ixus 870 is the combination of good picture quality and great controls and menu structure, which make it very pleasant to handle.
Thanks for your opinion! I checked this site and both models are considered as "best buys" :) FX35 has the HD video mode, but anyway I think that IXUS 870 has better picture quality.
Well it's like what they say on Cameralabs: you can't go wrong with it. Just want to warn you a little: I'm not tremendously impressed with it's low-light performance. It's not really bad, but it's not great either. Also, the Ixus 860 could shoot time-lapse video. This one unfortunately doesn't. Those are the two only minuses that I have for this camera. Positive is that you can make great night-shots with the adjustable shutter time (between 1 and 15 seconds). Cheers.
Excellent review. The metal wristwrap looks great but I'd be careful not to scratch the lcd with it - it's got an anti-scratch coating but it's not bullit-proof.
Btw there's also an audio-only recorder on it (accessible in the first tab of the menu).
just to clarify; are you saying that if i was recording and used the zoom, the sound on the recording would stop, or just that the zoom on the lens itself doesn't make a noise? [i've seen this problem on several other cameras...]
[need to replace my stolen 950is - thinking about getting one of these, just wanna clarify a few things! ]
when you use zoom, the recording will not stop. The thing is, the camera only uses digital zoom when shooting video, so you will not hear any noise, when zooming in.
I scratched the LCD screen :(
Don't even know how..

I just tried to upload a *.mov-file from my ixus870/sd880 and it works! No recompression to another format was required :)))
With the software or on-camera you can cut the movie-file in fragments, but that's it.
I uploaded i small testfile and put some extra comments in the description.
Two other mov-files that I uploaded have been edited with a combination of Avisynth and Virtualdub. Hope this helps.

Wow, doesn't FX35 have any zoom in movie mode? How about this one (IXUS 870)?
Which one do you consider the best choice, IXUS 870 or FX35, assuming the same price?

Thanks.
You can only use digital zoom during video rec and there will not be any noise when using digital zoom cept some clicking noise from the zoom rocker.
