  • I oppose the ban for MV bulbs!!! >:(

  • I agree i it is just stupid people making stupid decisions i think we should keep mercury vapor lamps because they are my favorite and most outdoor lighting is mercury vapor lights

  • Long live Mercury Vapor! You can't beat a clear MV lamp for landscape lighting, as you said.

  • Long live Mercury Vapor! You can't beat a clear MV lamp for landscape lighting, as you said.

  • If they ban mercury in lighting that will leave only LEDs, incandescent, and of course:

    Low Pressure Sodium!

    Long live SOX.

and the lower efficiency stuff will just lead to more mercury from coal burning being released.

  • Ha ha! That leaf looks just as green as your face!

Seriously though, I love MV lamps - coated or not - I installed a dawn-to-dusk yard light in my backyard and it's by far, the best choice of security lighting. Reliable and long lasting. Not to mention whether coated or not, they produce a very pleasant hue which just looks good in a yard compared to sodium...yuck.

Kudos to you, Dude, for your great efforts.

  • I agree. You cant beat a good magnetic wire wound ballast. Here in england you can still buy mercury vapour fitting i installed some a couple months back out of choice. There is no ignitor to fail or any type of retarded electronic ballast to pack up after a few years! They seem to be shoving CFL lamps and electronic ballasts down our throats and know one has stood up and said that the fixtures theirselves dont last anywhere near as long as older stuff so does it really save money?

  • @kevxsi16v You're right. I don't think it does save money. Perhaps it has something to do with manufacturing costs or making more of a profit. I'm not entirely sure.

  • omg a Alien xD

  • @xX20Divas10Xx LOL! That's a cool effect I like about clear MV lamps.

  • So the sodium bulbs are more efficient to a machine that measures lumens.... Assuming both a sodium bulb and a mercury bulb are both 250 watts, the mercury vapor bulb wins hands down to the human eye for visibility.

Petition signed, and an email created and sent to about 8 of my email contacts letting them know about this.

    Thank you David.

  • @DavidFromAE, I also created new threads in the open forums in my two favorite forums.

  • @MrThreepiston Sounds good!

  • a mercury vapor lamp is essentialy the ultimate lighting scorce in which nothing can deafeat. its fucking awsome it uses a 40,000 degree F plasma. its 10 x 9.8^2566 more baddass than normal lights, if you dont agree the pound salt up your ass. sissy green airheads, just the name is pimp. it makes evrything cool.

would you like a tuna sandwhich? no you boring asshole.

would you like a tuna sandwhich with mercury vapor on it? HELL YEAH!!! awsome to the max!!!

  • @iminyourbasement I concur!

  • singed ! we cant let this happin

  • It's bad enough that the ballasts and fixtures are banned, it's ridiculous that they want to target mercury vapor lamps as well. The government and these stupid special interest groups shouldn't have any say so about what light sources we can and can't use. They should at least allow current MV fixtures in service to do their job until they wear out.

  • Signed

    I don't get it!

With the exception of SOX, all discharge lamps have mercury!

But only mercury lamps produce that lovely green light or gray-green that looks so right in parks, etc.

    I hate sodium lights!

  • its a Really Bad Move to Ban Mercury Vapor Lamps...its true that these lamps are the Least efficent in the HID Lamp Family..if they wanna talk about being inefficent...talk about Halogen and Incandescent Lamps...why arent those Banned?...and Mercury?...its Almost Everwhere...every Discharge Lamp...Dental Fillings...its in the Coal thats Burned in Power Plants....banning the Lamps wont help anything, matter of Fact Mercury Vapor Lamps come closer to being an Idea Light Source than anything Else.

  • this country makes me sick, I am really starting to hate the USA, They even are trying to ban all 2 stroke engines, Its becoming very hard to find 2 stroke dirtbikes and the yamaha banshee is gone now to, Screw this country which is filled with nothing but a bunch of fat worthless pieces of garbage that know nothing about nothing.

  • Stand up for what you believe in! The USA has its problems but where else can you go that is better? The govt is way too big and taking away our FREEDOM! It needs to stop!

  • Its to late to be able to do anything within the system to fight, I hate to say it but this is exactly why gureilla armys have formed in other countrys cause of there governments trying to control them, telling there people to do what they say when they say and to bad it you don't like it. Its sad, And the usa is slowly but surley controlling us to a downward spiral as well. Welcome to the USSA or North american union.

  • i just posted a relay video, reaching out to my subscribers aswell to sign this petiton, everything is linked to this video!

  • Petition signed! Mercury vapor lamps are already being (sadly) quickly phased out in most areas... there is no need to force it.

  • If they don't like mercury bulbs, then they should ban those FUCKING compact fluorescent bulbs, which are full of mercury.

  • @wilkes85 Exactly!

  • I'm definitely with you. They banned anything for stupid reasons.

  • I'll sign too! This whole ban on mercurys is just absurd! It's all stupid politics and people are all get'n fooled by this ban. what's next, the mercury police? They gonna go thru all the 'hoods and fine people for hav'n 'em? Don't be suprised if it happens! Hey, I think mercurys can still be ordered on line from china. I'll share that info when I can get it. Mercs Rock On!

  • The European Union is going to ban mercury vapor lamps by 2015. (and T12 fluorescents by 2012, as well as lot of other lamps, and the phase-out of incandescent lamps have already started)

I agree they shouldn't be banned, mostly because there are lots of existing installations that will cost a lot to replace.

But compared to bans on incandescent lamps, where CFLs are inferior IMO, there are at least better alternatives (for new installations in most cases) like metal halide.

  • I'll sign! I wholeheartedly agree on most points. I don't believe incandescents should be banned either.

  • AGREED. Mercury lamps should not be banned...just because they're an older technology. The problem is that the people making these decisions to ban certain light sources are not conversant on the light sources and how they compare to other "newer" technologies which may be less efficient or unproven in reliability. Mercury lamps can burn for decades without needing replacement, thereby reducing lamp replacements and thus reducing the number of discarded lamps. Less lamps = less mercury.
