My personal experience says Intel might be 0.5% faster in processing but when it comes to overall performance and gaming no one can beat AMD and for the price it offers its definitely beats Intel @ any stage also they introduce new innovations and eventually Intel tries to copy the Chip design
Every time Intel takes out a new CPU the socket changes. So if you want to buy a new Intel CPU you have to buy a new motherboard. Example: you have a Core 2 Extreme, socket LGA 775, you want a new Core I7, socket LGA 1366, so the CPU doesn't fit the motherboard, you have to buy a new motherboard, which is more money. Core I7 - $1000+new motherboard - $500=$1500.
New Phenom II BE - $250+Same motherboard=$250
And Intel has a lot of Sockets, Which is Frustrating when you are going to buy a new CPU!
Lets say you have a Phenom II X4, and decide to overclock it to 4Ghz on air
you leave it on for a while, and it overheats and burns your house to the ground.
Lets say you have an Intel Core i7 Extreme 975, you decide to overclock it to 4Ghz on air, after elaving it on for a while, it's already conqured all of the benchmarks, has a geekbench of 12,967, and is idleing at 35C
Firstly, check your motherboard with its manufacturer's compatibility list. (They have a list of what has been tested by them). You may be required to flash the BIOS to a new version if they recommend it.
So you need to know the brand, model number, and revision of your motherboard. Note them down.
Secondly, you need to buy a Socket AM3 CPU. (ie: Phenom II series)...These chips are backwards compatible with Socket AM2+.
yeah, i7 rips, but look at the price, compare prices. EVERYONE has a budget these days, fewer and fewer have "epic" pc's with an example of Intel i7 Extreme and 2 Nvidia 295's, that alone is 2k, no-one wants to pay that these days, thats where AMD/ATI comes in, they offer better bang for your buck, but they don't offer best of the best, they go mid range to partial enthusiast, where intel and nvidia go all out.
yea, that's why I combine ATI and Intel. going to get a 4890/q9550. put out something decent. but have a look at the motherboards, X58 for i7, ? for 455, compair the tripple channel DDR3, and ither sli or crossfire, and all the other advantages. (ps, dose the equivalent amd chipset do sli and crossfire cuz i don't know)
probablly, but i don't feel like buying a fucking new amd mobo. if i upgraded it would be x58. price over performance is good usually. that's why i got ati. but i'm not putting up with it for processors.
well then you are highly unaware of it, It is not a CPU at all. It will be a CPU combined with a GPU to assist in graphics proccessing. Also you said nothing about Thulban, which has already been tested the fasted hexa-core so far. Where is intel to crush that, oh there behind in there work you say? Now I am not a fanboy of either. It just annoys me when people are uneducated and open there traps.
i7 920 - $280 Jetway Mobo - $160 Muskin DDR3 3x1Gb (cas 6/1333) - $85 Nvidia 295 - $469 That's 930 without tax/shipping and other parts like case, monitor etc. AMD 965 - $240 MSI Mobo - $80 Crucial DDR3 1600 cas7 (4x1Gb) - $100 XFX 4870x2 - $270 Total 710 before tax/shipping and other junk like case and monitor. BOTH will get the SAME EXACT FPS in games GUARANTEED. Yeah, I'll go for the cheaper setup and get the same FPS.
How long will it last, hmm, considering I've had my AMD 6000+ for years now and I can play any game at the same FPS as newer duel core processors, I'd say it lasts quite awhile.
And heat? Seriously? My AMD stock cooler ran 30c base and 45c load. With a Zalmen 9900 its drops to 22c base and only 30 load.
Don't hate on AMD just because you know nothing. Keep reading reviews online that are sponsored by Intel who pay them to lie. I've been building computers for 15 years, how about you?
Diamond Stealth 64 Video Card (I don't remember if that was the origonal or if i upgraded it)
Windows 95
If I remember correctly, This CPU was one of the most powerful available at the time, and being available in Dual & Quad Processor Configs made it way better than the AMD alternative, the K5
okay, 97, which means you SHOULD have some common sense, obviously not.
Only reason Intel Pentium Pro was so highly used WAS the duel/quad configuration, and that started because it was used for servers. The IPP was replaced by the XEON in 1998.
My 4870 1G, AMD x2 6000+, 4 Gb ram, running any game, gets the same fps and ANY processor with the same card. As long as the GPU is not bottle necked, you get the same performance in games no matter what processor. Review sites are paid to lie....
look i prefer Intel to Amd, not just for the cup, but for the great motherboard chipsets and compatible accessories. but I use ATI because of the price
And the only difference between the AMD Phenom II X4 965 Black Edition and the Core i7 and Core i9 will be the price. Phenom - Around $150 to $300. Core i7 - Around $1,000 to around $2000 for the new Core I9. And there are New Phenom II x4 CPU'S coming out this year in middle 2010. And way cheaper than the Core i9. And there are New AMD Phenom II X4 Mobile CPU'S on the way too.
AHAHAHA if you knew any better then you would probaly know that amd's cpu's runn considerably lower temps than an intel. and your argument isnt a very good one. cause it AINT TRUE
Umm, I don't hate AMD or anything like that, I actually love them for their prices, but I don't think that's true at all... care to cite your sources?
Intel's pin count always increases (different sockets) because they could never fully harness the power of that said pin count. More pins = more bandwidth capability to pass information through. AMD has had the lead for years (939 pin, now 940 through AM2, AM2+, and AM3) until the i7 which Intel jumped to 1366 pins so give them headroom.
Problem is Intel always jumps their pin count, never tuning for better performance which AMD does.
The only problem is the i5's will probabll tear this cpus apart. next year intel is making 32nm processors, amd seems kind of behind. I like Amd, but Intel is better.
What will the i5's do? Even providing a 32nm manufacturing process they will still be more expensive than the AMD CPUs.
Plus for Intel systems there's alooot of motherboard sockets coming and going which still means the large crowd gotta invest in expensive new motherboards only to fit the new Intel processors plus they (often) have to buy more expensive DDR3 memory as well.
AMD delivers alot more intelligent products - packing performance AND value.
it depends how much you are going to spend, I know they will be more expensive than amd, I don't hate amd. if the 200$ i5 is really good it might be better to go with intel. the other problem is the sockets, the i5's will have a new socket, and the core i7's and core i9's will have the same socket 1366. I probably be going with amd, if this 32nm outperform amd by a large margin I may go intel. did anyone notice amd getting rid of the am2+ quad cores on newegg?
How can I use AMD turbo if there isn't an option in the BIOS?

But with the Phenom's low price you can buy a water cooled PC. So there is no need for air cooling.

OK buy Intel then I go for AMD.
And just to mention most computers will turn off if the processor overheats. It is valid for Intel & AMD.

Not necessarily, not all AM2+ motherboards support the Phenom 2 processors.
Best place to check if you can use the Phenom 2 processors on your motherboard is on your motherboard makers website. It may need an updated bios.
