the bass is actually in a post-punk style. so yes, it looks like Joy division but it also looks like the cure, bauhaus and other post-punk bands. anyway, great great album.

It's a mixture of tremelo arm and reverse reverb. Listen to Kevin Shields guitar work in My Bloody Valentine, he does a similar thing.

You can't get true reverse reverb, no. There are however a few rack mounted gadgets that can help achieve a similar sound.
