TV back in the late '80s when they would actually do a tacky show but with normal actors.. - Fast forward 20 years and still the tacky shows with reality tv, "Stars.." - Just do things normally anymore on tv..
But strangly I want this, the 'just put together' look is great. I dunno,I think they get the same timescales nowadays but pay 20 year old kids minimum wage to produce and direct under high presure... hey if you keep at it you might get 30k a year to produce Points of View and then die
Its such a shame there isn't any decent kids shows on nowdays. Its all shouting and screaming charaters.Fair enough you can get away with it if its a christmas special (All the kids shout at christmas) but there is some really awful programes on like thumb wresteling (It looks as if the BBC's nest show is about a dead goldfish on a hook).
Wow, its so innocent compared to the shitstorm thats going on at the moment. And the worst thing is is that there isnt even any decent kids TV on anymore.
So AT if you we're 3 when you saw this, that must mean you were born in 1984...like me! Though I don't remember watching this era of CITV, though it's still brilliant, very nostalgic.
@AntarcticaTelevision I forgot that Rainbow was shown at 11.10am on Tuesdays and Fridays in the New Year of 1988 I almost forgot about that it is very nice at 0:00 and again at 1:071:08 it is also interesting to know that Rainbow was shown at twenty past four on Tuesday Afternoons in the new year of 1988 I forgot all about that as it has been very many years ago since I saw that but it is a very nice bit at 1:071:08 I remember it being shown at 11.10am on Tuesdays and Fridays in 1988 old times
Me too. A lot of CITV's presenters seem from that era seem forgettable.
Enjoyed the Karvol ad and sooty theme tune. Interesting how at the time the ad voice overs were a mixture of traditional RP English accents and modern voice overs.
I think that they still put them on the front of their programmes until the iuntroduction of the generic ITV branding in september 1989, because YTV still kept on screening frontcaps until the generic ITV was introduced!
I believe frontcaps for children's programming were ditched in 1985 in fact (unless someone can correct me). Also to the uploader, this is Children's ITV and not "CITV" (it wasn't renamed that until 1993).
Personally, I agree! However this seems to be a decision made by the ITV companies in 1985, presumably either because it "ruined the flow" of Children's ITV or an experiment prior to scrapping them from all programmes.
what do they mean "it ruined the flow". It didn't ruin the flow of in-vision continuity on the regional network so it wouldn;t have ruined the flow of in-vision continuity in CITV. if it was an experiment, then it was obviously a very difficult one as it took them two years to finally decie if they wanted frontcaps on the ITV network or not!
That wasn't a perfect quote at all. But that *may* have been some ITV companies thinking. I just put it in quotes to show it wasn't my opinion. But on the other hand, there may be another reason I haven't thought of.
This brings back some memories i can remember coming home from first school and just waiting for sooty to come on. I can remember the adverts too.

I dont remember things looking so bad, I was 7,
its like the presenting was different.
The graphics were basic,
the adverts were very simple!
But strangly I want this, the 'just put together' look is great. I dunno,I think they get the same timescales nowadays but pay 20 year old kids minimum wage to produce and direct under high presure... hey if you keep at it you might get 30k a year to produce Points of View and then die

Did they give out Sooty glove puppets to kids on that special? If they did, then I saw this too. I remember being so fucking jealous at the time.

1988 - there are no frontcaps.
AidanLunn 4 years ago
Quite correct 1988 the year they foolishly discontinued pre-programme idents!.
It's difficult to believe that it's nearly 20 years ago!.
I was 15 at the time and pretty oblivious to it!.

I've still got the video of Rainbow's Christmas Pantomime now! :-$
It says on the video that it was the 1988 Christmas Pantomime though. Great clip anyway
KevCityboy 4 years ago
What, the video says that *this* one was the 1988 one?

Yeah but it might have been recorded in 1987 and released in 1988. Don't know!
