  • vizzutti for sure

  • allen vizzutti is the best hands down!!1

  • I really enjoyed the way Vizzutti got that oboe sound out of the horn - even the characteristic squeaks and style from oboe players. It was like an entire concerto with a string part, oboe part, and strings. Nakariakov made a nice technical display of circular breathing.

  • How is this even a question? Vizzutti is far superior. He's noticeably better in terms of raw technique, and has miles on Nakariakov in terms of musicianship, creativity, and showmanship. He's also a composer and huge promoter of the arts.

This question is like, "who's the real King of Pop -- Michael Jackson, or the backup singer for your garage band?"

  • @825msp How can you say that? Nakariakov plays everything flawlessly with beautiful tone and articulations. Showmanship and creativity don't really make him better. They may make him more fun to see live, but if you're listening to a recording, you don't care about showmanship, and creativity doesn't matter so much if you're playing a common piece written by someone other than yourself. The question was who is a better player, and they're about as even as they get for playing different styles.

  • How can you compare the two? They both have different styles of playing. Music is not a competition as people make it to be. They have both worked hard to get where they are now and you shouldn't be critical and judge their style of playing.

  • turn the volume up

  • Gertnood agreed. Music in general shouldn't be a competition of trying to find the best of the best.

  • Anyone who titles a musician's video X versus Y just doesn't get it.

  • Circular breathing & double tongueing impossible? Look up Moto Perpetuo by raphael mendez. Then listen to Wynton, Sergei, and others attempt this. No question who the champ is. And he played this a late 40's early 50's.

  • @kingsminstrel apparently the Mendez one isn't circular breathing. He recorded the whole thing in four takes and stuck them together, can't remember where I read it but I'm sure you can find it online.

  • Timofei Dokshizer and Tine Thing Helseth:)

  • @trombigor tine thing helseth

  • HOW ARE THEY CIRCULAR BREATHING AND DOUBLE TONGUING?!?!?!?!?!?!?!

  • The first video isn't "fake". It's just that the piece being played (Ad Absurdum) has no video. Only audio. So the person who made this video dubbed the audio over Sergei playing live. If you have never heard Ad Absurdum you should look it up. It will change your view on what's possible on the trumpet

  • first video is fake

  • Both incredible virtuoso performances.... but I'm going to have to say vizzutti. Just because he's local. :)

  • Vizzutti plays: Autherny Plog - The Postcards

Nakariakov plays: Jörg Widmann - Ad Absurdum

  • Every single player on this planet has something to learn from these two trumpet Masters. Even Winton will tell you the same thing. Among REAL Maestri like these, there's a huge amount of respect!

  • My trumpet teacher, Doug Marshall went to college with him. He asked me to check him out on youtube. He said Vizzutti is the best trumpet player around when it comes to the technical aspects of trumpet playing. I agree.

  • Both are amazing but I think Nakariakov is a technical machine without equal right now......and can anyone circular breathe as well as Nakariakov.........seriously a freak!

  • you're right. Nakariakov is the best when it comes to the technique but his only fault (and the biggest) is his sound. It's not worked. He didn't study sound. But I think that Vizzutti has it all: an amazing sound and a perfect technique. But nobody can beat Nakariakov technically. And he's the only one in the world who can play double staccato and circular breathe in the same time. But the tone is wrong. That's the russian brass school: only technical and no right sound.

  • met nakariakov at a concert with the royal family absolutely amazing player but you are lucky if you go to one of his concerts as they sell out fast and he doesn't do many in enland

  • Allen vizzutti hands down

  • You guys seriously need to stop using the word "amazing". Young people right now don't seem to have a ridiculously limited vocabulary. Stop being lazy and find some more descriptive words.

  • excuse my ignorance, but what is the piece played in the beginning?

  • @YetAnotherMovieBlog Ad Absurdum

  • I think that both these players are absolutely amazing... However Sergei is definately gonna take it in classical... However that being said Allen Vizzuti has more parlor tricks. That of course are amazing in his own writings however you wont find triple tonguing in three octaves in many classically written pieces lol.

  • @keeg021985 Yes, yes I have heard Vizzutti live in person. I won't argue though because like I said originally it's my opinion. I never said Sergei was bad quite the contrary. Sergei is indeed great. I would still take Vizzutti though because he is super versatile and can play any style.

  • Are you seriously asking the question? Vizzutti is a highly overrated player; often sloppy; often improvises outside of the chord structure. It's hilarious that people would actually make a feeble attempt to compare his technique to Sergei Nakariakov's.

  • is fake,the first video

  • @olachaves ? how?

  • Sergei has proven that just naturally talented musicians do exist. Allen Vizzutti is better in my opinion but he has truly worked to get to where he is. He practiced for hours on end at Eastman.

  • @rbdoggtt You're kidding, right? "Allen Vizutti is better"??? Have you ever actually listened to both of these players play?

  • Sergei has proven that just naturally talented musicians do exist. Allen Vizzutti is better in my opinion but he has truly worked to get to where he is. He practiced for hours on end at Eastman.

  • Both are the best

  • sargei is the best

  • para q comparar a stos grandiosos maestros de la tromepta y la musica!! ambos nos deleitan y nos llenan d inspiracion y hasta tristeza jajaj de verdad q son los maximo los 2!

  • allen vizzutti is much older than sergei

  • The venues are completly different as of right now its apples and oranges. they both are great but you cant choose based on this im sure both of them have strong suits that trump the other.

  • @christiankemker Wrong. Technique is technique --- Vizutti can't hold a gas candle to Nakariakov. Vizutti is often sloppy, whereas you won't hear Nakariakov making any blunders of technique or tone.

  • @keeg021985 Yes, yes I have heard Vizzutti live in person. I won't argue though because like I said originally it's my opinion. I never said Sergei was bad quite the contrary. Sergei is indeed great. I would still take Vizzutti though because he is super versatile and can play any style.

  • porfavor alguien me puede decir como se llama la obra que toca nakariakov?

  • I thing that we can't judge from this because they're not the same type, they also have their own special, and they're also the great trumpet player, too.

  • both are superb in their own right.

Also, what are the titles and composers for both of the pieces?

  • the cold war continues...

  • Just to add to the comments from others, it really isn't about "who is the best" at this level of their playing, it is about whose interpretation we as a listening audience prefer. That is the true beauty of the music. If they all played everything exactly like each other we would have no need for more than one, instead it is a chance for us to enjoy different interpretations of the same thing and then take our own ideas and enjoyment away from that.

  • Allen in my opinion plays a lot flashier then Sergei but both are awesome.

  • i dont know if its the different recordings or not... but vizzutti seems to have more dark tone to it, but nakariakov was just knocking the piece out of the park though... im not trumpet player, but im a fan of vizzutti and marsalis, but putting vizzutti, marsalis, and nakariakov up as the top three trumpet players is Fact... in what order no one can say, better yet nobody has any business saying

  • @bestfhornplayerever

True. I mean maybe Sergei's performance was better, but would that make him a better trumpet player? I think not.

No one except for these players in question (Wynton, Sergei, Allen) truly know their own capabilities.

You have to remember that these guys are CONSTANTLY getting better.

You really hit the nail on its head bestfhornplayerever. Nice observation.

  • en ese video se ve que nakariakov deja de tocar y el audio sigue sonando como es posible eso????

  • vizzutti kicks flexibility ass.. nakariakov is really impressive espec with contemporary stuff. personally hate vizzuttis jazz playing but hes a freak of a player. nak tends to just go a bit over the top..espec w things like aratunian. love this piece tho!! far out! it's kind of a strange comparison though really...vizzutti and nak. and you canNOT say that wynton is the best jazz player...he's a great "i cover both areas" player but comeon...jazz greats like clifford, miles, etc kick his butt.

  • as far as i know wynton is considered to be part of those guys, and although he can do both he is incredible at jazz.

  • nak is an amazing player, but that damn angle pointing right toward the ground bugs the crap out of me!!!

  • It might bug me too if I could play that well and had the right to criticize... I say let the results speak for themselves.

  • yeah, you're right, they're both amazing players...

  • carnival of Venus sucks. Vizzutti admits its not musical. Its just shit.

  • @jazzmangiant lol u suck

  • Vizzutti says it himself. Its a joke piece.

  • Very tongue-in-cheek. Not a great composition, but it DOES take a lot of skill to play it as well as he does.

  • um im guessing you havent heard allens carnival of venus yet....

  • WHAT ARE THESE TWO PIECES? WOW!!!

  • Malcolm McNab

  • thank you!!!! No one's mentioned him yet lol he's beast

  • A MONSTER, but at that level, why does everyone speculate on who "the" best one is? They're all way better than I'll ever hope to be :-)

  • Nakariakov!!! I heard hem play the full piece in Brussels yesterday. It was incredible. I heard yet a lot of insane pieces, but this was the most insane piece I ever heard. Nobody can play this piece like Nakariakov does (with such a feeling!). He's the greatest trumpet virtuoso... But I have also a lot of respect for Visutti! (Wynton Marsalis is certainly the best jazz trumpet player)

  • Allen!!!!!!!!!!

  • I wonder what brand of trumpet they use?

  • Vizzutti uses Yamaha

  • Love alenna Vizzuti And Nakariakov are good and different personalities, and dominate the trumpet, BOTH WHICH MAKE USE OF TROMPETE? U.S. indentifica ME MORE PARTICULARLY With Wynton Marsalis

  • I'm a fan of both, i think Vizzutti is more creative, but sergei is excellent as far as technique. Arturo in my opinion is the BEST virtuoso.

  • agree sergei its far away best player in the world, but vizzutti is really amazing to

  • SERGEI ALL THE WAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Vitzutti only does a tiny percentage of what Sergei does ALL the time in all of his performances in all of the violin etc works Mikhall Nakariakov has arranged for him to play. Sergei is wayyyy better and also, yes, one dam attractive man. I wouldn't say no!!

    (Trumpet, Belfast/London)

  • Thirty five years ago I thought that I will never hear something close to the great Rafael Mendez. Thanks God, I was wrong. I think that Vizzutti recorded the most difficult trumpet concerto or performance ever (Carnival of Venus). I didnt hear all Nakariakov recordings. He is a great virtuoso and I think that he has all tools required to be the greatest trumpet player ever. He should try popular music to compare with Vizzutti. I think the same of Simeo.

  • Both are absolutely amazing and it's difficult to say who is better. They have both mastered their instruments but have different styles. Hell don't forget Wynton Marsalis another master.

  • Comment removed

  • Allen's a champ. Sergei gets more women than all of you put together. This is a waste of time, why are we not practicing right now? How cool is trumpet. How cool is it when they play high.... and loud.

  • circular breathing :)

  • he should have posted rondo capriccioso by seans

  • Comment removed

  • 'Music of the Spheres' by Philip Sparke is another experimental piece.

  • they're both phenomenal players. i dont think both pieces sucked. they're contemporary. thats such an opinionated statement to make. allen vizzutti is playing postcards which is a fucking awesome piece. nakariakov is just nasty. they're both nasty. just dont make stupid comments. its obsurd.

  • are there cresendos and diminuendos. are there accents and chanes in keys

yes they can be considered music

  • there is a difference between actual music and virtuostic showpieces.

  • well explain that to me so i can understand. because what you just said made no sense

  • These pieces were written for the performer to showcase their skill, they should not be considered actual music.

  • yes of course theyre written to showcase skill but to say that shouldnt be considered music is just ignorant

  • Comment removed

  • Both pieces were terrible. You call this music?

  • how about this

next time you have a thought, just keep it to yourselve

you obviosly dont know anything about how incredible hard these peices are and how well they played them so just stop talking like you know anything

  • they may be difficult to play, but can they be considered music?

  • Why don't you listen?

  • Stunning

  • Sergei classical

    Allen jazz
