What a shame. I had plenty of good trips to Frontierland in my 20s. The big rollercoaster was great. Too good to be pulled down. The most terrifying ride was the wild mouse. The scariest rollercoaster I've ever been on in my life...
I have some of the happiest memories in Morecambe. I grew up in Barrow In Furness and loved going to Frontierland with my Grandad and family. I visit regular now to Morecambe with my family and it really does make me sad to see the state it is in at present. I tell my little 5 year old girl what happy times her Daddy spent here on all the rides when I was a child.
THE COUNCILLORS ARE A COMPLETE DISGRACE IN THIS NEIGHBOURHOOD AND SHOULD BE ASHAMED!!!
@jimmyjimbo72 From what I've been told, the Orange mast was taken down months ago resulting in awful signal for any Orange contracted mobiles. If this is true, there is no reason or purpose for the Polo Tower to stand where it does today.
Thank you for posting this. I used to visit Frontierland with my then boyfriend when I was at Lancaster University, back in the late '80s. There was a rickety old roller coaster that I feared for my life in. I think it was called The Mousetrap. Happy Days.
If i ever won the euro millions id rebuild it to exaclty as it was! Total loss for the community and surrounding areas. Spent the best part of a decade going to morcambe and frontierland was the highlight of the trip. Spent many a school holiday the regency caravan park, dont know if that is still there tho. Sad loss :(
i was there 2day after 11 yrs, when i was there with my lass caroline. what a shock to see it 2day buliding shops on top of it as if there arent enough shops 2day! we need more fair grounds not shops! R.I.P. frontierland.
very sad to see the town decline like it has. i know the supermarket has something to do with it as does the local council and mayor, these people will be held responsible for killing off what was once a booming seaside resort. its criminal to see what they have done here. government should act on this and hold accountable the ones who help destroy my home town. great film i will fight to bring these useless council visionaries to justice, make them rectify the decline they have brought here.
@rhendeuk lets face it, it was already a decayed wreck. the bit with the dolphins, and i belive bubbles is now gone? i remember going there when it was new
@OrmerodJ did they move the morrisions? i havent been back to morcombe for years but thought the morrisions by the station and frontierland were in different place along promenade?
Oh man! I'm gutted!!! Great vid guys but that has just hurt so bad! I spent so many summers in Morecambe as a kid, i loved the place. I always remember in the car when we came up the road where the Buccaneer amusements were, i knew we were there! It was thriving when i was a kid (70's to early 80's) i've even been back with MY daughter! I loved the piers too, i used to nick off to the oasis amusements on the pier across from the Alhambra for hours on end! Very happy times.
Oh that's so sad, my family and I went to Frontierland loads back in the early 90's. It's sad to see it like that, we have so many fond memories of the place...lol
Thanks for this vid, as depressing as it is to see it all gone, it's nice to have good memories of when it was around. I moved to Morecambe in 1992 and bloody loved being a kid in a town with so many arcades and a massive fun fair!
i spent summer hols there in 77 and 78. mind going and playng in the pool along side sandylands promenade, going to marine land, putting etc. magical memories, but always seemed to be the poor mans blackpool. wouldnt like tio go back as it would spoil my memories!
;ps. that polo tower came from the [leasure beach at blackpool, as did most of the other stuff i bet. i went up the space tower in 1977 at the pleasure beach and went green. it was playing the theme from 2001!!! happymemories. so sad to see frontier land in a state like this. desrtoying thousands of memories in the blink ofan eye
OMG that is so sad - I pretty much spent my childhood in frontierland or Pleasureland as it was then - it breaks my heart everytime I see it when I go home to Morecambe
FYI the polo tower is not waste they cnt knock it down wich means ts not waste they wud knock it down if it woz waste, they cnt knock it down becasue they r using it :/

Councils are often to blame for this sort of thing. They don't want to cater to the 'common' person.Instead they like to get loads of bloody eggboxes (AKA 'luxury' flats) or golf courses in.Anything to cater to those with more money than sense. More often than not the schemes fail.Councils need to realise they are meant to be there to serve the people. Where I'm from, the council are refusing to back a theatre thats been in the town for years, but are going on a huge golf junket to bloody Dubai
fuckin brilliant post i miss frontierland 2 all thats left there now 4 kids is the skate park wich is still rubbish. any way uve made me miss my home (morecambe) and i still look foreward 2 going bk thanx
Helicopter flights around the bay would have been wonderful. Morecambe needs something to keep tourists interested. Yes there is a beautiful view across the bay (on a good day) but once you've seen Eric's statue and the 'Tern' birds there is very little else to entice people back.
The Polo Tower is now merely a mobile phone mast.
The punk festival that brings in money told to fxck of to blackpool.A friend wanted to open a hellicopter museum here- Flights around the bay, that sort of thing--GUESS WHAT ? told to fucx of OUT OF THE AREA
BUT enough of the negatives- we have used needles banks NOW AND 24-7 CHEMISTS?
As we are all driven to drugs---
ps The wild mouse was great as well,
The cyclone was fantastic, i remember the wood
would flex and sway and move slightly as you rode her--or was that the drugs
It was the council that forced geoffery to close the place down,he wanted to knock it down and start again but greedy lancaster city council would not give him any relief on the ground rates whilst it would be closed so he stuck two fingers up to the council and decided to close the place down.like the rest of morecambe its shafted with the crap council, who seem to think morecame will thrive off old grandmas and grandads.
It was never Alton Towers or Blackpool Pleasure Beach, but it was a damn good day out. Sadly missed and yes, mantadaveo it was the Thompson's who shut it down...
Frontierland was such fun, I have so many happy memories of that place its really sad to see it still empty. Would be really good if Urban Splash decided to build another theme park now they have completed the Midland. If I had mega bucks I would definately build another Texas Tornado!!!! I once went on that ride 26 times in one afternoon :) Cool x
It breaks my heart that Morcambe is now a tatty seaside town like Sunderland (where I live). The amount of happy faces what must have left that park and what it has become is criminal! Get a petition out residents and dont pay your council tax! Put it in another account and pay it when they finally demand it!
it wasnt just the 80's my grandad was born in 1924 and he played ther as a boy, my mum grew up there and she played there 2. its wierd my grandparents left morecambe in 1999. the year it closeed down and the year really my childhood ended? it is really sad! glad to know others love frontier land too!

Basically the town where it is ( Morecambe) lost loads of tourists in about 1999 and the water park (Bubbles) which was across the road from Frontierland closed down. So Frontierland decided to close because the council were basically being pricks.
