Up really steep hills it's a bit slower, but not much. But you can ride hills all day due to comfort. It just takes a few months of practice to get your legs calibrated to the new style of pedaling. Once done, not much effort needed at all.
Against wind, it's a LOT faster due to natural aerodynamics.
