While Charleston has high crime, the rest of the state doesn't. It's actually ranked as 39th for violent crime, so they are poor and have low crime...but they're white. South Carolina, ranked 1st, is 27.9% black, or more than 2x the 12.6% natl. average. Arizona is only 57.8 non-Hispanic white, less if you count illegal immigrants.

Notice a pattern? States with high poor populations have higher crime and vice versa.

While true it's not in the absolutely retarded or not-to-bright range. The current average for black Americans is about 91 (some sources put it at 89 or 90 and others as high as 93). For white Americans about 98 to 100 and about 103 for East Asian-Americans (not sure what it is now for Natives and Hispanics). Those are all in the "Average" range.

Blacks tend to mature more quickly than whites, the same way a week old puppy can walk and a week old baby can't do anything. But the puppy stops developing and the baby goes on to become Einstein. Not only is that a horribly inaccurate analogy (a black kid and a white kid are nowhere near as genetically distinct as a human baby and a puppy) I don't know what you mean by "mature faster" either. Black males aren't adults until they're 21 on average, the same as white kids. Black kids hit puberty around the same age as white kids.

But the genes are already fully expressed at 8-10 years old. The traits they will show later have already begun to appear at that point. IQ doesn't measure how "smart" you are (most inventions aren't even created by educated brainiacs to begin with), it measures some facets of your ability to memorize, to recall (working memory) and to recognize patterns.

True. There are theories on why crime and IQ are positively related. Some psychologists and sociologists believe it may be because people with lower IQ scores are more likely to score lower on standardized tests and are more likely to drop out or underachieve. That makes a person more likely to turn to crime to get by.

I don't know what you're referring to because it only accounts for about 16% of the variance of financial success in life. How genetic it is also seems to vary. For middle class people the heritability seems to be about 0.3. For poor people the heritability seems to be about 0.1. Pretty low.
@A86 Does not guarantee* What you might be seeing there with heritability is called regression towards the mean. Very dumb people and very smart people are more likely to have offspring of more average intelligence than super-smart or super-dumb people. But smart people are much more likely to have super-smart offspring than dumb people. Regardless of what they haven't found in the genome (needle in a haystack) intelligence, and everything else, is genetically heritable.

The problem is regression to the mean is still not direct evidence that there are IQ genes. With regression to the mean you can't properly control for shared enviroments of families unless you test kids who aren't raised with their parents. As you noted earlier the apple often doesn't fall from the tree. Most well-off black Americans are only 1-3 generations away from being poor or economically average. Whether that's due to genes or due to the fact the parents take their learned cultural habits with them into wealth is up for debate. It's also probably pertinent to keep in mind that most African-Americans in general have only been literate for less than 7 generations. About 4 generations ago the majority of black Americans weren't literate and didn't have an education above 8th or 9th grade.
@MyAccount4TrollingU - It has quite a bit to do with it. You can't take the IQ test properly if you can't half read since a lot of the test involves languistic inferences and wordplay. If you can't do basic math you'll also have quite a bit of difficulty with the mathematics section.

That's not how the empirical rule works. With the Empirical Rule 68% of the function lies within 1 standard deviation of the mean while only 15.8% lies more than a standard deviation away. With a smaller number the standard deviation is also less of a distance from the mean. With a normal distribution curve for black IQs 1 standard deviation wouldn't be 15 points.

About 50% of white Americans have an IQ below 100. With black people about 50% of black Americans would have an IQ below 90 while 50% have an IQ above 90. 68% of black Americans are the 78-105 range while 68% of white Americans are in the 85-115 range.

While Charleston has high crime, the rest of the state doesn't. It's actually ranked as 39th for violent crime, so they are poor and have low crime...but they're white. South Carolina, ranked 1st, is 27.9% black, or more than 2x the 12.6% natl. average. Arizona is only 57.8 non-Hispanic white, less if you count illegal immigrants.

It's easy to see that although a puppy is more capable of survival at two weeks than a human baby, in 20 years that human baby will have developed more so mentally than the dog. Of course a kid with more money will have a higher IQ score, but his parents needed a higher IQ score to make that money. Also, an average of 85 means that a LARGE percentage (25%?) score 70 or below, 70 being considered "mildly retarded."

Before the 1970s they didn't have as mandatory policies mandating everyone to finish education to the 12th grade, a lot of minorities (and poor whites) back in the day would drop out before finishing school. At rates that dwarf today's dropout rates.

I don't know what you're referring to because it only accounts for about 16% of the variance of financial success in life. How genetic it is also seems to vary. For middle class people the heritability seems to be about 0.3. For poor people the heritability seems to be about 0.1. Pretty low.

@A86 Does not guarantee* What you might be seeing there with heritability is called regression towards the mean. Very dumb people and very smart people are more likely to have offspring of more average intelligence than super-smart or super-dumb people. But smart people are much more likely to have super-smart offspring than dumb people. Regardless of what they haven't found in the genome (needle in a haystack) intelligence, and everything else, is genetically heritable.

The problem is regression to the mean is still not direct evidence that there are IQ genes. With regression to the mean you can't properly control for shared enviroments of families unless you test kids who aren't raised with their parents. Even then you'd still need to find specific genes to back it up. Until then all you have is correlation, not the same as causation.

Whether that's due to genes or due to the fact the parents take their learned cultural habits with them into wealth is up for debate. It's also probably pertinent to keep in mind that most African-Americans in general have only been literate for less than 7 generations. About 4 generations ago the majority of black Americans weren't literate and didn't have an education above 8th or 9th grade.

That's not how the empirical rule works. With the Empirical Rule 68% of the function lies within 1 standard deviation of the mean while only 15.8% lies more than a standard deviation away. With a smaller number the standard deviation is also less of a distance from the mean. With a normal distribution curve for black IQs 1 standard deviation wouldn't be 15 points.

About 50% of white Americans have an IQ below 100. Black Americans had lower STD rates and single parent rates generations ago when black American average IQ scores were lower.
Violent crime has also gone down for all American demographics. US crime is at the lowest rate

Obviously a myriad of factors affect these things other than IQ scores, such as cultural habits and subcultures, family background and upbringing, economics, education, etc. Even though black Canadians presumably have a lower average IQ than white Americans black Canadians have a lower crime rate per capita.
