I think it's important to pay attention to the message of the music you listen to (well then again, with modern music, there is seldom a message). However, that doesn't mean that you have to live your life by that message. The music should just have a message that you respect, you don't need to agree with it completely. I support animal rights, but I'm not a vegan or vegetarian. You've just got to respect the opinion of the music, not follow it like a cult.
I'm a left-leaning libertarian, anarchist, vegetarian, atheist.. but i still think you dont have to think just like the band, to listen to the band (and learn, agree and desagree with the band, both ideas and music)

I think I own more Propagandhi albums than any band, probably the same as Tool. Someone mentioned to me that they think it's hypocritical of me to be a fan of a band like Propagandhi, largely cause, I'm not a vegan. I'm an anarchist however. I've tried even going vegetarian, and I always end up breaking down and eating meat, maybe because I just don't know what to replace my diet with, but I start feeling like I'm hallucinating, and that's only after a few days ... how does anyone do this?
I don't think it is hypocritical but I think that peta and vegan outreach, whether you agree or disagree with their methods of activism, both have a lot of information about veganism and what to eat, and if you have any questions i would be glad to help you out. I've only been a vegan for a little more than a month, but ive been a vegetarian for 3 years or so. and I'm a nutrition major, which helps a lot. Anyway best of luck!
Dont worry about not being Vegan. You can still be a prop fan. Being Vegan takes alot of preparation. Start with being veg eat alot of tofu and veggies and I mean really pig out its great you cant get fat!! But failing that enjoy the music and dont worry too much. I think it's important to pay attention to the message of the music you listen to (well then again, with modern music, there is seldom a message). However, that doesn't mean that you have to live your life by that message. The music should just have a message that you respect, you don't need to agree with it completely. I support animal rights, but I'm not a vegan or vegetarian. You've just got to respect the opinion of the music, not follow it like a cult.

There's a lot of punk bands i listen too and enjoy and could care less what the message in the song is. Conversely, I may agree with a bands lyrics for the most part but not like their music (ie Anti-Flag). I also like gangsta rap, but it doesnt mean I'm selling keys and busting caps.

It's bullshit to claim that you can't listen to a certain song, band or musicstyle without agreeing with the lyrics.
Punkrock and all related styles are music. That a lot of bands use this genre, as a way of carrying out their message is true. Still that does not oblige me to agree, even though I like their music. That is just a stupid, closeminded idea. I do not have to wear spikes to listen to metal, I do not have to reject authority to listen to punkrock, I do not have to mosh to be hardcore.

If you want to get technical, punk rock never started out as being about attitude or any sort of message. It was about regular average joes being able to get together and play music in their garage without having to be amazing musicians. It was a reaction to the view that music was getting far to complicated for the average person to play and enjoy. Go back and learn your musical history before you comment on anything related to music. You're forgetting to learn the most basic lessons.

As Joel says, the same music can be absorbed in a totally different way depending on the listener, and that's what is so great about music - it is largely subjective.
Plus you maybe shouldn't try to define what punk rock is.. too much labeling and categorisation of the concept just seems to undermine and nullify its purpose. To me, anyway.

I think I own more Propagandhi albums than any band, probably the same as Tool. Someone mentioned to me that they think it's hypocritical of me to be a fan of a band like Propagandhi, largely cause, I'm not a vegan. I'm an anarchist however. I've tried even going vegetarian, and I always end up breaking down and eating meat, maybe because I just don't know what to replace my diet with, but I start feeling like I'm hallucinating, and that's only after a few days ... how does anyone do this?

I don't think it is hypocritical but I think that peta and vegan outreach, whether you agree or disagree with their methods of activism, both have a lot of information about veganism and what to eat, and if you have any questions i would be glad to help you out. I've only been a vegan for a little more than a month, but ive been a vegetarian for 3 years or so. and I'm a nutrition major, which helps a lot. Anyway best of luck!

Dont worry about not being Vegan. You can still be a prop fan. Being Vegan takes alot of preparation. Start with being veg eat alot of tofu and veggies and I mean really pig out its great you cant get fat!! But failing that enjoy the music and dont worry too much. Anarchy has never had a chance to fully develop, so to say that it has failed is just stupid. In Spain during the 1930's Catalonia was run by Anarchists, and production rate increased.
