I don't think it's right to compare performers at all. They're different people with different takes on the characters and the songs. They have their own ideas of how they want to portray their character. Vocally they are different, different ranges, different inflections. THEY'RE DIFFERENT! GET OVER IT!

Those days on the Disney channel clearly did nothing to train him for anything of this magnitude. Ramin Karimloo was in a word AMAZING. I love that man. He can do no wrong by me. ::dies::

I find it interesting that people bash on Nick because he's a pop star but in my opinion he did a great job. His voice is great. Sure not as great as Micheal Ball but he definitely impressed me. Which is amusing because I saw him and I was like "Uh oh. This won't reach my expectations at all" but he truly did a good job. And this is in the opinion of someone who's been singing and all that for years.... I have very high expectations lolz. He did good.

Ok people I am coming to Nick's defense. You all say he is soso or even dare I say terrible but you are all a bunch of jerks yeah his voice maybe more quiet than the others but can still hear clearly. In my honest opinion Nick was perfect for the role of Marius and he plays it so well.

@jesusthroughmary Agreed, but Enjolras is actually considerabley older. If I remember from the book correctly, he was about 27 or 28 where as Marius was closer to about 20. So this is actually a good fit.

I like Marius watching Enjolras when he's shaking his head in disgust. Had Marius heard him sighing? He seems to pray in silence Enjolras would interfere the teasing song. He couldn't count on the other's who were just laughing.

Grantaire sounds great here! And Nick Jonas is a better, younger Marius. But my favourite stays Enjolras. That guy might not sounds as nice as Michael Mcguire (original cast), he surely has the same strenght in his voice.

Theatredrok - I totally agree!! I was disappointed they chose a pop star with a big name over a talented singer who could have done the part justice. He was the only thing I didn't like about the show. However, his name did bring in a new crowd and expose more people to Les Mis, so I guess at least that worked.

I pity Nick Jonas...every person standing on that stage was better than him and it showed. His voice was weak and others had to hold back so that he could even be heard. He was the only bad part of the performance...it was like a high schooler got thrown in with an amazing group of professionals.

@theatredrok Yeah I know. I feel sorry for him too in that aspect. :/ I mean he has a nice voice and could have probably have probably done well, but he's spent so long using it for rock music that he LOST all his music theater and opera training.

I have two theories as to why he got picked for Marius:

1. They wanted screaming Jonas Brothers fangirls to buy the DVDs.

2. They needed someone close to Samantha Barks' age to be Marius; NJ played Gavroche before, so they used him.

Nick should have been expressing passion here, telling people about this person that caught his attention & moved him like never before...hopeless romantic fool kind of, instead.he looked annoyed here.
