Haha I wonder how the pitch meeting for this video went.
"So the idea is you're gonna leave your house and find a magical drum set in a junk yard, then clay dinosaurs will be so blown away by your rock that they themselves will find magical instruments and transform into musically gifted punkasaurs. You guys'll jam until Donnie Osmond gets angry about it and a cop will come scare the dinosaurs with a flashlight. Then you'll get a music gig."
OMG I HAVENT SEEN THIS SINCE 1986!!! And even at that I only saw it one time when they showed it on nick rocks, but I didnt know the name of the guy, all I could remember were the dinosaurs playing the guitar and dancing! OMG I CANT BELIEVE I FOUND THIS AND I CANT WAIT TO SHOW IT TO MY MOM, SHELL FLIP OUT TOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I last saw this in 1986 on MTV and never caught the name of the singer/drummer. All i remembered was that it was an awesome version of the Del Shannon classic and that the drum kit was tiger skinned (or something similar) Found this by accident, thank God for YouTube.
One of the best thing about 80's vids was just the fucked up randomness of them and that's why they're so memorable. Nowadays every vid is just some whore shaking her ass or some faggot throwing cash around. Creativity is officially dead!
I played my Luis Cardenas tape until it broke! This is the most rocking version of this song ever recorded. Even the Misfits version can't hold a candle to this.
I really like this cover of the song. It's cool to find it here on YouTube. I haven't seen this video for ages. The last time I saw it was when MTV would play it on Headbanger's Ball.
I was 20 but its still kool to see this vid again.reminds of back when if you couldnt find anything to watch on tv. you always had mtv to turn too. atleast you could watch vids. not anymore though. now its all reality garbage. which is obviously scrpited anyway
Oh my god!!!!!!!! last time I saw this I was 12, holy god that was a long time ago, thanks for making me feel young again.....GREAT POST MAN. god the 80's were and are great.
Yeah, I was about 8 or 9 I saw this vid on MTV. This weekend I'm looking for all the old videos I've recorded at that time on cassettes. Watching such videos makes me feeling young again.
I have this on an Elvira special that MTV ran back when they were fun.
Here's a question. I was watching Rod Stewart's "Hot Legs" video and the bass player bobbed his head EXACTLY the way the dinosaur does in this video. Any idea if any of the dinos are based on real people?
I am in total agreement with Velvetfarts first phrase. Mine was not before the Transformers, though. Of course that went the way of SOOOO many VHS tapes.
Seriously. I haven't seen this since it aired on one of those MTV "knock-offs" on another cable channel. What great memories, and great hair! I remember when I had something near that... Good times indeed.
Remember dancing to this track in the rock clubs in England 20 years when my hair was very similar......
Great times !!
Remember all the bands at this time out-doing one another to see who could have the biggest and most outrageous drum-kit.Kiss, Crue, Scorpions, amongst others, all held that 'crown' at one time or another..........
Man this video is so bad. Its AWESOME. Took me 20 minutes to find it and was well worth it. Cannot wait to hear his new album if its ever released. Would love to jam with him.
i had this on a vhs tape, it was this video and then it went into the original transformers movie right after. best vhs tape i had growing up and i still have it. now i can have it dvd woo hoo!
I am showing my age now, but B-Side of the 12" Vinyl single of this track has the most amazing drum solo by Luis, just amazing. This record doesn't really show his drumming excellence off well enough.
Wow.. I am truly AMAZED at the variety of videos on You Tube .. and thankful too... fun trips to our past with some of these! My kids eyes might permentantly get stuck in 'roll' though, LOL
Damn!! I`ve never thought I would see this stuff again!! I think the first time I saw this video was in the second half of 1986....it so funny to see those dinasours rocking hard...and it was many years before "jurassic Park"!!!
I saw a tiny clip from this video in the DINOSAUR documentary with Christopher Reeve, always wondered where it came from. Now a question I've had for over twenty years has been answered. Thanks!
I have been looking for this since I saw it on MTV 20 years ago. I only saw it once but searched tirelessly for it on video and any recording I could find. I never did find it until today. Thank you for posting this, it is awesome!
Oh wow! They just don't make videos this fun anymore now. My brother taped this video from TV back in the 80s and we'd watch it over and over. We love the song and this is the best version for us. Del Shannon must have really liked it that he appeared in it. Well, impossible not to like it :-)
OMG! What a great job! I do believe Del would love it!!! Love the vid and the drums, AWESOME! THANK YOU Xpinger for sharing especially today, the 8th...
Actually, Del did love it, that's why he's in the video as the cop at the end. Donny Osmond is also a cameo celeb in the video, he's the guy on the phone about mid-way through the video.
Del Shannon was interviewed about it and said that he used the Luis Cardenas version for the intro because he felt it was the best version of Runaway ever made, which is why he appeared in the video as the cop. The TV show licensed the Luis Cardenas version of the song, and Shannon performed the slightly modified lyrics.
This video brings back alot memories...I remember ..seeing this video on MTV..at a bar in Los Angeles in '86...my lil bro...is the guitar player for Renegade!!..
I know it was Del Shannon singing on the opening to Crime Story, but the music track sounds like LC. I haven't heard it in so long, but I thought it was the LC track. I could be wrong.
I have asked my husband to see if he could find this video he had no luck,so last night I came on this site typed in Donny Osmond and runaway and found it.This is just a great site
