  • ESTA CANCION ERA DEL MTV, EN 1986,YO PENSABA QUE ERA COMPOSICION DE LUIS CARDENAS Y NADA QUE ES MAS OLDIEST

  • Luis Cardenas has more talent in his one drumming hand than Justin Beiber.

  • I hereby declare, it is STILL 1986, and I WILL be a rock god!!!

  • Wish I could find this CD! GREAT singer and drummer!

  • Comment removed

  • The cop is Del Shannon, the guy that sang the orignal version of this remake.

  • This is cool. I just wish I could find the song without all of the special effects.

  • this was a cool video the dinos were neat

  • and donny osmond

  • Great song, great video.

  • haven't seen this for 25 years still brilliant!

  • DINOSAURS ARE DINO-MITE

  • MAXIMUM BONERCONE. NOW I NEED TO WATCH SUPER SLOPPY DOUBLE DARE.

  • Dinosaurs??!!

    LOL

  • back when MTV actually meant MUSIC TV...LOL

  • No F..ing way... I've been trying to find this song for ever!!!

  • Great version of the song by Del shannon!

  • Proof positive that the 1980's were the time of creative videos.

  • @bispower6 jajaja nada que ver!!!

  • The 80s were a very silly time.

  • Haha I wonder how the pitch meeting for this video went.

"So the idea is you're gonna leave your house and find a magical drum set in a junk yard, then clay dinosaurs will be so blown away by your rock that they themselves will find magical instruments and transform into musically gifted punkasaurs. You guys'll jam until Donnie Osmond gets angry about it and a cop will come scare the dinosaurs with a flashlight. Then you'll get a music gig."

I imagine a lot of blank stares in response.

  • Music died long ago.... Thank god we still got the old stuff!

  • Totally takes me back to when i was an MTV addict in the 80's!!! When it was worth watching! Thanks for posting!!!

  • I absaloutly love this song... cant belive that this didnt become some sort of classic!

  • This was done by The Chiodo Brothers who also created the movie Killer Klowns From Outer Space

  • I knew it was Del Shannon as the cop, but not Donny Osmond as the neighbor at the window! Too bad his scene is so short, eh?

  • WOW!

It's been a LOOOONG TIME since I've seen this one. What ever happened to him?

  • luis cardenas? latino? from what country his parents come from?

  • OMG I HAVENT SEEN THIS SINCE 1986!!! And even at that I only saw it one time when they showed it on nick rocks, but I didnt know the name of the guy, all I could remember were the dinosaurs playing the guitar and dancing! OMG I CANT BELIEVE I FOUND THIS AND I CANT WAIT TO SHOW IT TO MY MOM, SHELL FLIP OUT TOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • i used to work with him, i can't wait for his new cd!!!!

  • das my uncle!!1

  • does anyone know if you can get the cd.had tape and played it to death!!!

  • Geeze.. i don't believe it!

I last saw this in 1986 on MTV and never caught the name of the singer/drummer. All i remembered was that it was an awesome version of the Del Shannon classic and that the drum kit was tiger skinned (or something similar) Found this by accident, thank God for YouTube.

Much respect for the upload, faved and 5 stars :D

  • thanks! i'll be searching this son and the video for years!

  • One of the best thing about 80's vids was just the fucked up randomness of them and that's why they're so memorable. Nowadays every vid is just some whore shaking her ass or some faggot throwing cash around. Creativity is officially dead!

  • @TRE1275 It's all rap crap, MTV and VH1 would rather cater to reality show fans, nothing to do with video music anymore!! R.I.P.

  • I played my Luis Cardenas tape until it broke! This is the most rocking version of this song ever recorded. Even the Misfits version can't hold a candle to this.

  • it is donnie osmand!

  • Awesome stop-motion by the Chiodo Bros.

  • THATS MY UNCLE!!!!!!!!!!!! i love him so much i am jonah cardenas his nephew! im really close with his son zach cardenas!

  • cool story, bro

  • Ask your uncle who that guy is that yells out the window - it looks a lot like Donnie Osmond.

Nice to see Del Shannon in this...he went out hard, RIP

  • That's cuz it is Donnie Osmond & the cop at the end of the video Is Del Shannon the recording artist that originally recorded this song

  • I really like this cover of the song. It's cool to find it here on YouTube. I haven't seen this video for ages. The last time I saw it was when MTV would play it on Headbanger's Ball.

  • uhhhhh

  • Was that Bruce Campbell in the window?

  • I think it was Donnie Osmond

  • Atually I'm sure

  • It is Donnie Osmond and the police officer Was Del Shannon.

  • good job uncle luuu

  • This video proves Richard Dawkins is correct.

  • This was on the soundtrack to Jurassic Park.

  • Superb! What a cool 80s video. Nostalgia galore. Thanks for the fabulous upload!

  • Absolutely fabulous!

I never realized how cheezy some of the 80s had been, but cheese was good then and it tastes just as yummy today!

Thanks for bringing a part of the lost 80s to everyone!

  • I was 20 but its still kool to see this vid again.reminds of back when if you couldnt find anything to watch on tv. you always had mtv to turn too. atleast you could watch vids. not anymore though. now its all reality garbage. which is obviously scrpited anyway

  • Oh my god!!!!!!!! last time I saw this I was 12, holy god that was a long time ago, thanks for making me feel young again.....GREAT POST MAN. god the 80's were and are great.

  • great vid, last saw in 86 on music box on channel 4 or itv, always wanted to see it again, thanks.

  • Fantastic ! I was 6 the first time I see this vid ! And I love it then. Thanks for the upload !! Bring back really good memories !!

  • i was 13 when i saw this and i stil am haha

  • I was 13 when i 1st saw this too.

I had hair on my head and none on my balls.

    Happy days.

  • Yeah, I was about 8 or 9 I saw this vid on MTV. This weekend I'm looking for all the old videos I've recorded at that time on cassettes. Watching such videos makes me feeling young again.

  • I love seeing Del Shannon show up in this video; respect.

  • my friend´s name is Luis Cardenas, lol

  • This cover is great! One of the best videos ever.

  • Haha - haven't seen this in ages - thanks for the nostalgic trip back to the 80's!

  • I have this on an Elvira special that MTV ran back when they were fun.

Here's a question. I was watching Rod Stewart's "Hot Legs" video and the bass player bobbed his head EXACTLY the way the dinosaur does in this video. Any idea if any of the dinos are based on real people?

  • I am in total agreement with Velvetfarts first phrase. Mine was not before the Transformers, though. Of course that went the way of SOOOO many VHS tapes.

    Great post!!!

  • AWESOMEEEEEEEE

  • Thanks for posting this vid, it's the first time ive seen this since i saw it on music box over 20 years ago, brilliant.

  • Seriously. I haven't seen this since it aired on one of those MTV "knock-offs" on another cable channel. What great memories, and great hair! I remember when I had something near that... Good times indeed.

  • i dunno how long i've been searching for this song. thanks to the uploader. nostalgic song from my boyhood

  • hell ya i bean looking forever for this VIDEO.......kicks ass

  • Remember dancing to this track in the rock clubs in England 20 years when my hair was very similar......

    Great times !!

Remember all the bands at this time out-doing one another to see who could have the biggest and most outrageous drum-kit.Kiss, Crue, Scorpions, amongst others, all held that 'crown' at one time or another..........

    Thanks for posting it !!

  • Man this video is so bad. Its AWESOME. Took me 20 minutes to find it and was well worth it. Cannot wait to hear his new album if its ever released. Would love to jam with him.

  • Wow!!! I remember this song and video!!! I have not seen it in over 20 years!! Thanks for posting this great gem!!! What a drum set!!

  • my brother and I loved this video as kids!

  • OMG! I used to LOVE LOVE this video and this song! Thanks SOOO much for posting it and making me feel old!! haha!

  • Holy Crap I forgot all about this, Thanks for posting!!!

  • LOVE this video, I am so glad that you posted it. I love it when the dinasours change, and rock out. 10 stars for you to post this video

  • my dad is uber good friends with luis's dad his drum set freaking rocks

  • I am showing my age now, but B-Side of the 12" Vinyl single of this track has the most amazing drum solo by Luis, just amazing. This record doesn't really show his drumming excellence off well enough.

  • Is that not one of the coolest drum sets ever though...

  • YES!! I have tried to find this video FOREVER. I knew it had to be around '86 because both my girls were little. Thanks for posting it!!!

  • Hi! I also think this is so cool!Care to share conversation?

  • PLEASE note the brand of drums!!!! the best Ludwig peace

  • Hi!! you always go for the best, that's you!

  • Donny Osmond is in this video ,telling them to be quite

  • when was this video fisrt played on mtv? id like to know as it would answer a question which has been bugging me for years!

  • Damn!! I`ve never thought I would see this stuff again!! I think the first time I saw this video was in the second half of 1986....it so funny to see those dinasours rocking hard...and it was many years before "jurassic Park"!!!

  • WOW!!

This brings it all back now.

I've got this on 12" picture disc somewhere, think I must have been the only person in the UK to buy it.

Not seen the video for literally years - I think (again) a show called No Limits (with Jonathan King) used to show around 1985/87.

Good to see it again - thanks!

  • I loved this video when I was a kid and now my kids 4 and 8 are also in love with it!!

  • Awesome video. I saw this video when Mtv used to play videos back to back. I was in 6th grade at that time. Thanks for posting.

  • MTV played videos?

  • I saw a tiny clip from this video in the DINOSAUR documentary with Christopher Reeve, always wondered where it came from. Now a question I've had for over twenty years has been answered. Thanks!

  • Great video. I also saw it 20 years ago and that´s it. Every bit as good as I remembered. Thank You.

  • I have been looking for this since I saw it on MTV 20 years ago. I only saw it once but searched tirelessly for it on video and any recording I could find. I never did find it until today. Thank you for posting this, it is awesome!

  • I couldn't get the damn song out of my head to this day, and I wondered who the hell sang it. Thanks for answering that.

  • Oh wow! They just don't make videos this fun anymore now. My brother taped this video from TV back in the 80s and we'd watch it over and over. We love the song and this is the best version for us. Del Shannon must have really liked it that he appeared in it. Well, impossible not to like it :-)

  • OMG! What a great job! I do believe Del would love it!!! Love the vid and the drums, AWESOME! THANK YOU Xpinger for sharing especially today, the 8th...

  • Actually, Del did love it, that's why he's in the video as the cop at the end. Donny Osmond is also a cameo celeb in the video, he's the guy on the phone about mid-way through the video.

  • saw all that...sorry I worded it wrong..there is always someone out there who is always right, this time it's you...have a great day.

  • wow you acually caught del as the cop i did'nt think many people relized that.he was great.i hope he is rip.

  • LOFL

I love the "this is it - I'm gonna be a BIG STAR now" attitude. How'd that work out for you?

    Nice hair.

  • Just out of curiousity, what are you talking about?

  • Del Shannon was the original, and this version is so rarely known, so I could see why Crime Story wouldn't use this version

  • Del Shannon was interviewed about it and said that he used the Luis Cardenas version for the intro because he felt it was the best version of Runaway ever made, which is why he appeared in the video as the cop. The TV show licensed the Luis Cardenas version of the song, and Shannon performed the slightly modified lyrics.

  • Luis was in the Guiness Book of Worlds Records for the largest drum kit, the one that is seen in this video.

  • Thank you so much for uploading this! I loved this video as a kid :D BTW, little trivia. I think the cop at the end was a member of the Beach Boys

  • One of the most overlooked videos of the 80s here in the UK. Gem of a vid, thanks for posting. To the youtuner who knows Luis wish him all the best!

  • this is my uncle. he is the best because he bought me a les paul and he is my uncle ludwigdrummer777 is my cousin

  • Love the cameo by Del Shannon at the end of the video, the guy who plays the cop!!

  • my daddy!

  • wow!!!!..thanks to the person to upload this video...'cause is brings back a lots memories!!........ you are asome!!!...

  • This video brings back alot memories...I remember ..seeing this video on MTV..at a bar in Los Angeles in '86...my lil bro...is the guitar player for Renegade!!..

these cat's are totally groovy rockers!!

  • My teacher was the lead singer for Renegade back in the late 80s. Awesome.

  • awsome .........thank you very much

  • I will say one thing about Luis Cardenas good singer rocker he looked good with long black hair back in the early 80's.

  • damn, what a drum set

  • Yeah, that drum kit was cool as hell, it landed in the Guiness Book of World Records as being the Largest Drum kit

  • i remember this version being the opening song to an NBC series called Crime Story starring Dennis Farina. great skin work.

  • This was not the version for Crime Story's intro, Del Shannon did a somewhat reworded version for the two seasons that show lasted.

  • I know it was Del Shannon singing on the opening to Crime Story, but the music track sounds like LC. I haven't heard it in so long, but I thought it was the LC track. I could be wrong.

  • just like a man to bragg about the size of his drumkit

  • why isn't animal instinct on cd? i want it

  • Well, good luck in finding it........It's out of print

  • its on ebay sometimes

  • had this album on vynal and lost it been looking for it for years now i've found it again thanks

  • luis is my friends uncle

    i met him

  • I have asked my husband to see if he could find this video he had no luck,so last night I came on this site typed in Donny Osmond and runaway and found it.This is just a great site

  • Brilliant, thanks for posting

  • siempre me ha dado risa la quitarra ochentera , suena como una loca gritando.

  • I remember this from when channel 4 was using mtv to test signal strength prior to full broadcast loved it then absolutely brill to see it again after all this time

  • Haha...nice video.

My history teacher is actually one of the three guys that runs up to Luis Cardenas at the end of the song.

  • My drums-kit is bigger ;-)

  • really?? How many pieces is your drum kit, and can you play it like that?

  • never new who sang it till now..thanx for posting

  • It was Del Shannon originally

  • Wow, this one takes me back. My brother had recorded this video when they were playing it on the WB channel in Minnesota, and I begged him to play it again and again for me, so I could dance around to it in my underpants. It's the single reason why I took drums. Thanks for uploading! :))

  • It was in the late 80's like 1987 or 1988. You still see it on MTV and VH1's classics from time to time. It's still a great video. They don't make videos that are fun anymore!

  • actually 1986 :)

  • Ive been looking for this vid for a long time (saw it on music box in the 80's)......thanks for posting.

  • someone knows the year of this video?

  • 1986

  • luis is my uncle for real

  • Awesome.

  • Classic vid from Music Box in UK!

  • thats is del shannons song, right??? yeah i knew that from somewhere... !!!

  • Yep, that was Luis Cardeas' cover of a De; Shannon Classic..In fact, the cop at the end of the video was Del Shannon himself

  • bringing back memorys thanks!

  • Lol... welcome to the 80's where the airstyle must be unisex and where the music videos tell a story.

  • That Drum kit is cool as hell

  • K trip out on this. My dad just busted in to my room when I was playing this vid and told me to turn it up.

Yeah up! - not down. My dads trippin'yo.

  • Damn! I have a 50 pc kit - I watched this vid like 10 times trying to count how many drums are in this kit. That is the biggest MOFO kit I've ever seen. Never heard of homeboy bet he's a kickass drummer.

  • That kit was, at the time, 75 pieces and was in the Guinness Book Of Records as the biggest in the world.

  • Actually it was 77 pieces, and grew to be 107 :)

  • he had 77 pieces here, he was in the Guiness Book in 1988. Worlds largest drum kit

  • i remember trying to figure this song out decades ago. saw it on NickRocks when I was little. thanx!

  • Dang! I remember watching this video a long time ago! THANK YOU FOR POSTING IT!!!!
