@cjisdacoolest thank you for the reply. our grows cubes because they need to be watered from the top generally will grow algae. it is important to understand that algae will not harm your plant, so there is no need to panic. once your plant has establsihed roots and can be transplanted, you can either remove the top cap that has the algae on it or simply wipe it off the top. if the top stays dry duirng the next cycle of growth the algae will not return.
@cjisdacoolest ANYTHING WILL GROW ALGAE.....the point we are making, since STG is nonwicking you CAN water in such a way that water does not get to the top of the STG, so it remains dry and therefore cannot grow algae. less vile language would be appreciated. this is a public forum you can make your points without the need to use language that we and others find offensive.

wow thanks for the great info i just went from hydron cocco puffs to STG i have been using a timer (20 min off 60 sec on ect.?.) in A AeroFlo2 36 site system, any recomendations on watering timeing with STG (my timeing schle may of been my problem) but the ease of this stuff seems awsome and at half the price of hydron !!!! whats your thoughts? thank you!!!
@johnartmaster Thanks for giving STG a try, I"m sure you will not be disappointed. We have several vids using the AeroFlo system. We always just let it rip 24-7 and saw great results. No two grows are the same, so we always go with let your plants tell you what they like and adjust timer up or down. Are you using Hail or Inserts? Love to hear back with your results and let us know if you have questions.
Great video! I am just blown away on how STG Loose Fill medium can help cultivate the most ideal plants. I have never seen such great root mass on basil plants as far as my growing is concerned. I am just curious, can I use Loose Fill in a hydroponics system, like a DWC system perhaps?
@lovingmygarden Thanks for the comment. For container growing, STG loose fill, Hail or Storm inserts will all work very well in DWC or any hydro method.
thanks for the email. in theory STG is reusable, in practice it is very difficult to clean well enough to get all the roots out. We therefore do not reccomend reusing. Most grow experts do not reccomend reusing media. Using clean, sterile, inert media with every grow, will help elimanate many variables that could cause problems down the road.
STG will generally get you to a two - three foot plant before you need to stake or trelis. Our new Hail mini cubes seem to provide even better stability and just saw pictures from a grower with 4 foot trees with no problem.
Depending on the weight and size of your fruit, it can handle a good amount. You will have to trellis or stake after a certain extent of weight packs on for larger specimens.
no matter which medium you use, if the plants are very large you will need to suspend them, tomatoes, peppers, cucumbers etc etc. they are all to heavy to support themselves if your doing a good job
do sure to grow like general hydroponic 3 part nutrient. WHat is sure to grows faviroute nutrients. what is the best you have tried. WHat did you think about general hydroponic 3 part flora. I had mixed feeling on it. advanced nutrients just seem like markting company slapiing stupid names on products which have just contain one nutirent like monkey juice.. what have you found to be you're faivoroute nutrient
We have tried, and continue to try new nutrients every month. There are a few that we really like, but not necessarily any favorites. I currently run Dutch Master Gold in a few of my systems, and I love it because it's very clean and stable, and very easy to dose......but I don't use it in everything as it's not organic. Same goes for the GH flora series.... not organic, and not my personal favorite. I would try Technaflora before GH flora. When it comes to nutes.... always experiment..
what organic nutes do you use? are you talking about soil or hydro for organic nutrients. I didn't think there were any organic nutes for hydroponics. Are you saying you would not eat food grow in non organic nutrients. WHat do you insist on using organic nutrients for? WOuld you never eat food grown in hydro nutrients then. Are you saying its not safe to eat. are there any organic nutrients for hydroponics that work well.
I'm not saying it's not safe, I'm just saying organic produce is more natural, and in essence.... better. And to answer all of your other questions briefly, There are no organic nutrient lines that guarantee performance in a hydroponic system.. And if you ask every nutrient manufacturer out there if they will stand behind the performance of their organic line while being used in a hydro environment, chances are you won't find many. In time, we will make it possible!
I would recommend you start with a DIY flood and drain setup like the one just released in our latest video. Flood and drain is a very simple way to gain understanding of how hydroponics works, without getting too complicated from the beginning.
That will depend on the size and age of your plants. If you're going to build a table exactly like the one in our video, I would just buy some small 6" mesh bottom pots, and just use the new Storm Hail to fill each pot separately. You can flood 2-3 times per day to begin, and progress feeding times as plant growth allows.
one interesting thing i have noticed in aero systems is the bottoms roots which hang into the water constantly stay a little bit whiter than roots which hang in air in aeroponic system. this has got me thinking that maybe systems in which the rootas stay underwater constantly are better that systems in which roots hang in air. im using the aeospring aeroponic system. my roots are darker which are just sprayed where as roots submerged are whiter. anybody no why this is
I would attribute the "darker" roots hanging in the air from oxidation caused by the combination of the minerals within your nutrient mixture, and the atmosphere. With the increased oxygen levels you are exposing your roots to by suspending them in thin air, it comes with an increased amount of oxidation activity. The roots submerged are not exposed to this activity, therefore.... they appear to be cleaner, whiter, and healthier looking. No worries.
I like T5's or MH's during veg and HPS during bloom. If you want to get a little crazy and drive the scovilles up on your peppers, switch to a 10K MH during the final week of bloom for awesome results.
using no media is the way to go. checkout thinairgrowing systems on google. THey do these cool little seed disks which germinate seeds with no grow media at all.
If using no media is the way to "grow" then some needs to tell me what happens in a true aero system during a rolling blackout or loss of power. Plants conditioned to grow in these environments need constant input and perish when that input is removed. True high pressure collision fogging is the future but a method needs to developed to allow for circumstances outside of our control before it is viable.
Dude... You pushed the shit out of that Rockwool in that net pot. THAT IS WHY THE ROOTS AREN'T THRIVING. I like your product buy I have yet to find "everyday" growers using your product. My hopes are high though.

Thank you for this video. I am building a homemade AeroFlo type system. I actually planed on using Hydroton. I know from using the Hydroton with Sure To Grow Cubes in my homemade Ebb and Flow system I have algae growth within a couple days. This will eliminate at least two of my major concerns. The Algae problems you spoke of and the Hydroton breaking down. Both could cause pump failure and clogged spray jets. I really like your solution.

why do plant wants O2 rich water if plants use CO2??? like in aquascaping we incorporate co2 into the water to boost plant growth.

@ENRIQUEGOITIA The leafs want CO2 for photosynthesis but the roots want O2.
