What a well-done video that is dumbed down far enough for the average Joe. I wish they had not quite dumbed-down the effects if they don't get this right. Can you imagine no internet or electricity or phones for a very long time, i.e. maybe a year to replace stuff that has been zapped? This is an extremely important project. Tax dollars are NOT wasted here for those of you who didn't get it the first time. I want to find out about the other probes mentioned quickly at the end.

A strong CME (coronal mass ejection) will melt the transformers on the electric grid and bring down sattelite communications and all communications for about a year. So, this is a very important mission. If they have some lead time, they can shut down the grid and stuff before the blast hits. Use Google for more. I'd but backup fuses to your backup fuses if I were you.

A space ship alone, on the other hand, costs approximately 1.7 billion dollars to make. Then there's funding for technological development of these two satellites? Well there goes a few more million. @GuyFawks1605 I think the original projections were for 2012, to be honest. My guess is that they decided to change the forecast date to 2013 so people would not freak out. If NASA gets this right, we can avoid a communications and electric grid meltdown when the next huge CME blast occurs. But, they said there are no dress rehearsals and no guarantees.
