Received my R61i yesterday, exactly the same, but with a plastic chassis. Still, it feels rock solid, the best laptop ever! Not only do I finally have a trackpoint, something I miss on all other laptops, but the battery lasted for the entire freaking day at the uni, and the way back on the train AND still had juice when I was home!

The R series is pretty good. I use an R40 for everyday use, and I absolutely love it. Though a thinner T40-43 would be nice...

Yeah, the T series is a bit thinner and has a magnesium chassis instead of a plastic one, so it should withstand almost any "attacks" from outside. Still, it would have cost me more to buy a T61, and I could just afford my R61. Nevertheless, I'm really happy with it, you simply can't get more of a laptop for the money than with a ThinkPad :D

i agree that IBM has the best customer service and computers. dell has very bad CS and you can't run a lotof 3rd party programs on a dell, you gotta get "theirs." lame. i just ordered a T61p 2 days ago. worth $2300 with all the coolness i put in it but got it for $1200 since it was ultra employee discount day... thank you friends who work for IBM!

hehehe...that's like asking a Dodge guy how a Dodge compares to Ford and Chevy...

I would choose a Thinkpad everytime...they are very user friendly, even after the warranty expires. They literally give you what is called the Hardware Maintenance Manual, which tells you how to completely disassemble your Thinkpad. Most other companies keep them secret, and hard to find, or service companies charge for them.

I just bought a T61 very similar to yours, would you say that you are very happy with it? I wonder if I should have gone with the T60, but I guess I will never know. I like the idea of vista and hope it is a good choice for me. All I do with my laptop is simple school work and maybe some DVDs and old games. I just hope I enjoy it.

Great video and music! I was just about buy the same model as you but have read a number of reviews that say the screen brightness s really not bright at all and is very washed out when viewed under good office lighting.

Would apprecaiet your view on this. I knw you show the brightness comparing it to your old laptop but what do you think really? My other option is to g o for a T60 with the very bright Flexview display which everyone raves about.

I will be getting a T series laptop soon.  Just deciding between 14.1 or 15.4 screen. I am still going to hookup to an external monitor when I am at home. Just not sure what screen size is better b/c I will mainly use it for around my school campus.
