"Each Chevy Volt (has) $250,000 in state and federal dollars in incentives - $3 billion altogether...total state and federal assistance offered for the development and production of the Chevy Volt...18 government deals that included loans, rebates, grants and tax credits...GM is currently 26% owned by the federal government...According to GM CEO Dan Akerson, the average Volt owner makes $170,000 per year."
---James Hohman, assistant director of fiscal policy, Mackinac Center for Public Policy.
Chevrolet Volt is very impressive, but no revolution in fuel efficiency. The Chevrolet EV1 was all electric. THAT was 'an American Revolution' that was killed in committee following a Big Oil handshake. Bob Lutz is no hero.
Seeing GM allows dealers to install crap TAIWAN aftermarket hubcaps, door handles and mirrors and they try to convince you its a GM appearance package,, if you are looking at a GM vehicle ask the dealer if ALL parts are GM parts!!! Read your contract well specially the fine print where it says GM sold the dealer a base (stripped) car and allows the dealer to finish the build with whatever parts they want.. BE careful with GM,, best bet just buy a FORD.
This car I´ll hope and which it comes to Sweden too, I´ll want one! USA will make electric cars but sweden will only make combustion yet. If this car comes to Sweden, all combustion cars get out! Please Chevrolet Volt! Come to Sweden too!
Think of it this way if you buy a Japanese car you are sending your money to the same country that was responsible for killing thousands of Americans back in 1941 during the Pearl Harbor attacks! If you buy a American car you are helping create more jobs and your money stays here in America!
we left the battery the first time was not because the oil company paid us to, we did not have the batterys like we do today, the oldstyle batterys to power a car would weigh like a ton! they tryed solar power panels but whats the use of those if you cant charge at night or on a cloudy day. we have to technology/batteries now to make lighter batterys that can power cars, but i think the best option for a car would be hybrid, i couldnt trust a oversized R/C.
Wrong. The vehicle had a lot of problems. Could never go out of the city. They never sold the cars. It was a trial that was predestined to end. Battery tech was not where it is today. Even today primary electric cars will not do well and most will fail. Storing non liquid power is the future, but it's not here yet. Super caps are starting to make a pull in tech and current storage isn't there for ANY current media yet.
If you have watched the video you will see it was a lot more than that. Other manufacturers were making electric cars too that they all took off the market also, chrysler and gm signed a bill that was in corporation with the oil company that made it ok for gasoline cars to run in California so they could keep making tons of money, check out the video, wasn't problems, there were other things.
Not to be negative, but, Honda And Toyota will probably beat them Just like they did with the prius and insight. And, why is it that garage built EVs average higher miles per charge out of their lead acid powered EVs.
I have been on the chevy volt's website and it says that 75% of American comuters could use this for going to work and back without using a drop of gas.
WELL THAT'S JUST FINE BUT THE MAYJORITY OF AMERICANS COULD NOT AFFORD THIS CAR
and that is why this car is pointless
Also if every one had one of these the power plants would need to produce more electricity, causing MORE pollution, thus making the "green" part of this car pointless!!!!
The energy used to produce the electricity to run the car is less than the energy that would have been used to power the car using gasoline. Also, as designs get better, the cars will become more affordable.
I agree with the end and most of your point, also the pollutants that are used to build cars, trucks(parts,Ships,Planes),Buses(Workers), and america shouldn't be doing Cash for clunkers, its just all a mess!
The Volt can go 40 miles on pure electric, after that the E-85 fueled motor kicks in to produce more electricity so the care can travel further. between 300-600 miles on one charge/fuel.
This car will in no way fail. We need to support our companies here at home. Think of it like this. If you buy a Japanese car, you sent your money over to them.
if you buy American cars our money stays right where it belongs, here in America!
Chrysler corp has a big fat minivan and an anachronistic 4door Jeep that get the same EV range as the Volt. The volt is nice, but it's nothing special technologically.
@im1greatman dude, GM cars are not only built in America but also in Mexico and Canada.
Also, most people do not like their cars because they are unreliable.
After owning 3 GM's, I'm done, this is the last one, I would much rather invest in a "More reliable Japanese product " and give them my money, than waste thousands on a "American product " that needs repairs regularly.
And I think Government Motors owes ever single legal working American a Volt for saving their sorry asses already.
@stichy420 I agree that many cars from GM are built in Canada and Mexico also. If you are willing to buy an American brand vehicle I'm quite sure you would only buy those built here in the states.
Most newer American vehicles built in American facility's are very reliable. Maybe your bought a Mexican GM. lmao
While GM does owe the American people, the federal government was the one that bailed them out with most people against it.
@im1greatman but then you should have brought that up 50 years ago when they started importing Cars. They've been making cars here for more than 35 years and now you think our $ goes there?
Where are Benz and BMW come from? Hello? Jag? the popular Land Rover? I can keep going for next 25 mins.
i really hope so as Toyota and HOnda are becoming arrogant
they need competition and im just disappointed big3 is not really giving it to them. they've been losing marketshare the last 10 years thats unforgivable
As of late, Ford's been kicking some rump in reliability and quality. They just need to put out some decent, more efficient cars. The Fusion Hybrid is on the money, beating the Japanese hybrid sedans (Camry, Accord, Civic hybrids).
Im an American but im up in Canada when i saw it. they go by the metric system. they go by Liters instead of gallons and it doesn't say "An American Revolution" at the end of it.
Often they have 'gallons' as well in the commercials but it's extremely misleading because apaprently we use the British gallons which end up making the fuel economy better if you think in American gallons.

@DroidNoid The Volt does 40 miles on electricity then when the battery is almost depleted the gas engine kicks in for another 230+ miles.
Not too mention when Motor Trend tested it the car can do 101 mph on pure electric and get to 60mph in 8.8 seconds.
