It's not like the Light World and Dark World of Link to the Past, the Twilight is sorta a realm that represents the absence of light, true light, filled only with void and darkness, and the world has no Light for because the bad guys basically got rid of it... and yeah, I know it's kinda late to tell you about it, but I thought I'd explain anyway.

Hey Tim, Link and Zelda are "chosen ones" of the Golden Godesses Farore and Nayru respectively. Since they respectively bare the Triforces of Courage and Wisdom, they exist in BOTH realms. That's why Zelda doesn't appear as a spirit in the twilight realm. In Link's case, however, the Twilight Wolf transformation anchors him more so into the twilight realm, so people in the light realm can't see or hear him.

I think that those who are blessed some way by the goddesses (namely Link and Zelda) can exist in the twilight without becoming a spirit. Later in the game, some of this stuff is explained if you read the text carefully enough. When twilight covers a land, most people become spirits. Given enough time of exposure to twilight though, the spirits become restless and transform into shadow beasts. Link and Zelda do not transform b/c they hold pieces of the Triforce. I bet the guard is a monster.

Although, given the nature of the cutscenes and your battle with him, I'd say it's safe to assume that he as well was unaffected by the twilight due to his Triforce of Power, and he used that power to ***SPOILER*** gain control over the twilight ***SPOILER**

@link5261 What confused me for a while is how Zelda maintained her human form and Link didn't. My theory is that Zelda is more used to her triforce piece, so she can control whether she goes beast or not. Link had just discovered it, so he can't control it or unlock its full power until he gains the Master Sword. When he does, he gains the power to switch forms whenever he wants

I don't think the Twilight Realm is the one you travel in. The Twilight Realm is the Palace of Twilight. Twilight covers the Light World, giving the Light World attributes of the Twilight Realm, but the land and people are the same.

BTW, with all your theorizing, I just want to clarify some things (not that you'll ever see this :D).

As far as I know, there is only one "world" that you play in (for much of the game -spoilers LOL). The Twilight "Realm" is slowly but surely covering that "world", meaning that each person is only one person, not two as you thought; when they are in the Twilight, they are spirits (which you know). Important people may become things other than spirits ( also as you know)

The way I understood it, the Twilight isn't a different world. It's a magical curse, kind of like in Okami. It's covered the land and it has twisted everything. So basically it's the same world, just messed up and cursed.

Also, it took me until recently to realize this, but I think the guard they're referring to when you have to leave is a Shadow Beast. After all, Zelda is being held captive. Being guarded by a normal ol' Hylian wouldn't make sense, especially in this Toilet Realm.
