I did the big chop on July 30,2010. i WAS VERY SCARED! But it is all about how you protray yourself. After I went home and made my face up and put the earrings on, I was happy with the cut. Now, I am loving my hair!!!!!! So, thank you guys for all the videos and tips and pics. Oh, and the man I WAS dating had a fit! So now we are not together. In the dirty south, men are still caought up in the long and straight hair thang!

Girl you are gorgeous! I used to be afraid to wear mine out as well. For the longest time I wore LF wigs. When I finally did it, I felt a big relief and weight off my shoulders. A GREAT feeling. Some people give looks but most say they love it. Most importantly, I LOVE it. I agree with you, this is the hair GOD gave us. It's not a curse, it's a blessing because NO other race has our hair. You are rocking yours! Fabulous! For the first few weeks, my comments (all negative) really depressed me. All came from my family members! No one has yet to say anything nice. Now that I'm almost 2 months into it, they make comments but I don't care anymore. I have yet to "rock" mine, but at least negativity about my hair doesn't hurt me! My husband is behind me 100% (he doesn't like my short hair, but he's encouraging me on my journey) so that's all that matters!!!
The bottom line is having confidence! There are many women of many different sizes and shapes that have naturals and rock it with pride!!! AND that's the truth!! Yes, Shea is gorgeous, but she carries it well b/c she has CONFIDENCE!!! It takes a lot of soul to cut your hair and rock it natural! It takes more than surface beauty! ;-)
I really appreciate you posting this video...actually all your videos! I just did the BC on 8/3/10 my one month anniversary is this Friday YAY! When I really decided to do it I had to do it right away or I was scared I would change my mind since my permed hair was almost in the mid of my back! I love it though! I'm glad I did it. I chopped my hair by a nice white lady but the black ladies from the black salon are afraid for me. I dont know what is the big deal of me cutting off my perm hair. So i just went to a high class salon and i asked politely "can you cut my hair?" and im happy that she will and she puts namaste on it so i won't have dried hair walking out of the salon. I was not scare at the time just want it cut because my poor scalp need to be relieve from the tugging and pulling between the two (transistional)
i chopped my hair off 8 months ago but kept it in synthetic braids. after watching ur videos, i decided its time to let my hair breathe and im never goin back. i love my natural hair. ur videos are great confidence boosters. thank you so much!

Yeah, I hate to admit it...but-okekemadue-has a point. But no one has to BIG CHOP to go natural......if you feel you don't have the head, face, body shape, etc for short hair....simply transition instead :) Don't let that stop you from going natural.
I definitely prefer black women with natural hair. However, the experiences of this delicate flower of a sista are not a fair test of whether men generally find natural hair attractive. She is drop the F. gorgeous. Most black men would drink muddy water and sleep in a hollow log if she said so.
Is your hair naturally curly or do you do something to make it curly? after washing my hair there is no curl but shrinkage only that i can't even think of just doing a wash and go...jjust chopped of the relaxed part this morning and im braiding my hair on saturday but i want to be able to just walk around with my natural hair eventually, helpppppppppppp!!!!
Wow! Thank you I have my big chop for about 4 weeks. I do LOVE it however at time when I get those crazy look. I try and make sure that I hold my head up and walk on air. I often tell people it may not be for you and when I decided to cut "MY" I didn't consider what you would think. went natural march of 09, I admit when i first cut it i hid a bit under scarves, hats, & wigs, but once i got a bit of length i was hooked. I encounter people at my job who ask about my hair alot. Black women, white men/women who think my hair is cute.I dont think we realize how accepting the world can be about our hair. I say invite those questions, the stares and ask them to talk about it. Most people are afraid to but relent & explain things. Im tellin you black women love talkin bout it.
I just chopped it 5 months post perm BUT Im getting micros and its not that I dont love it but I want it a it longer!! But this video really helped me =)
The shape of face/skull and sometimes, even body shape (fat vs slim) really affects how any woman looks with short hair, confidence or no confidence. Lets say the truth. You can get away with any hair style cos you have a beautiful, flawless face dear.

I feel God makes no mistakes and for a black woman to embrace her NATURAL hair is very liberating becuz very early in life we are bombarded with images that make us feel different and not beautiful. @sheacocoaluv I'm a 70s baby and one thing I CAN say...every single sista who rocked the same basic afro had a TOTALLY UNIQUE look about her. It was like even though the hairstyle was the same, it looked TOTALLY different on each person...and totally suited the person no matter their features/face/head shape. I still feel that way about TWAs/fros/etc. BTW you are absolutely stunning...!
@okekemadue I would like to disagree with this statement. Yes, sheacocoaluv IS beautiful, however ANYONE can rock short natural hair (TWA). And if someone doesn't look good to you with their TWA, it's NOT the TWA to blame, it's them in general, which means that even with straight long hair, you'd be calling them ugly. But just like sheacocoaluv said short natural hair is beautiful, classy, sassy, and all of that. And not being confident SHOWS and is unattractive, and we don't want that. Do we ?

i'm about to wear my twa out. i'm 4 months post my bc (a fade) and i guess i havent worn it out yet bc i was afraid, but im glad i have family and friends encouraging me to wear it out.

I did the big chop on July 30,2010. i WAS VERY SCARED! But it is all about how you protray yourself. After I went home and made my face up and put the earrings on, I was happy with the cut. Now, I am loving my hair!!!!!! So, thank you guys for all the videos and tips and pics. Oh, and the man I WAS dating had a fit! So now we are not together. In the dirty south, men are still caought up in the long and straight hair thang!

yah ur hair fits u very well, and ur prettier than beyonce and tyra banks and all thse other hos that need to have long wavy hair... i luv beyonce n tyra btw, but they could rock out the short hair but theyre scared. Solange is beautiful with the short hair!!!

Girl you are gorgeous! I used to be afraid to wear mine out as well. For the longest time I wore LF wigs. When I finally did it, I felt a big relief and weight off my shoulders. A GREAT feeling. Some people give looks but most say they love it. Most importantly, I LOVE it. I agree with you, this is the hair GOD gave us. It's not a curse, it's a blessing because NO other race has our hair. We're the chosen ones. STAY BEAUTIFUL my natural hair ladies!!

Yes I am rocking my natural hair and yeah I get looks just because I am in the militarty and someone is always going to have something to say about an African American woman with natural hair but whatever I look sexy with it and my family love it as well and you are right it is all about your self esteem because in the end its all about what you as an individual like not anyone else

You are rocking yours! Fabulous! For the first few weeks, my comments (all negative) really depressed me. All came from my family members! No one has yet to say anything nice. Now that I'm almost 2 months into it, they make comments but I don't care anymore. I have yet to "rock" mine, but at least negativity about my hair doesn't hurt me! My husband is behind me 100% (he doesn't like my short hair, but he's encouraging me on my journey) so that's all that matters!!!

The bottom line is having confidence! There are many women of many different sizes and shapes that have naturals and rock it with pride!!! AND that's the truth!! Yes, Shea is gorgeous, but she carries it well b/c she has CONFIDENCE!!! It takes a lot of soul to cut your hair and rock it natural! It takes more than surface beauty! ;-)

I really appreciate you posting this video...actually all your videos! I just did the BC on 8/3/10 my one month anniversary is this Friday YAY! When I really decided to do it I had to do it right away or I was scared I would change my mind since my permed hair was almost in the mid of my back! I love it though! I'm glad I did it. I'm a little anxious to see it longer but I know...patience So now I'm just working on finding the products that work for me.open to suggestions..much love!

Hey, love. Great video. If I had seen this before I BC'd it would have made me feel at ease. Like you I didn't transition for long before I cut my hair off and I haven't looked back since. @ 2:22 made me laugh. I've been getting great response from the fellas as well. :)

I chopped my hair by a nice white lady but the black ladies from the black salon are afraid for me. I dont know what is the big deal of me cutting off my perm hair. So i just went to a high class salon and i asked politely "can you cut my hair?" and im happy that she will and she puts namaste on it so i won't have dried hair walking out of the salon. I was not scare at the time just want it cut because my poor scalp need to be relieve from the tugging and pulling between the two (transistional)

Your hair is really pretty:) I wasn't hesitant to do the big chop, simply because I felt my hair was beyond damaged and it was just horrible. So I was like yay FREEDOM when I chopped my hair off. No more hair breaking off and drama. YAY! lol thanks for the video and being inspiring:)

Your hair is amazing :) I have not relaxed my hair since April & since cutting that crap out of my life my hair has grown alot & I'm so happy. But I just cannot bring myself to cut all of my relaxed strands off. The two hair textures isn't really bothering me too much, but I just want my hair to grow more before I do cut all of this relaxed hair off I just have been clipping my "ends" for the past few months. YOUR VIDEOS as well as other ladies on here has helped me out SO MUCH :) THANKS!!!!!

Yeah, I hate to admit it...but-okekemadue-has a point. But no one has to BIG CHOP to go natural......if you feel you don't have the head, face, body shape, etc for short hair....simply transition instead :) Don't let that stop you from going natural.

I definitely prefer black women with natural hair. However, the experiences of this delicate flower of a sista are not a fair test of whether men generally find natural hair attractive. She is drop the F. gorgeous. Most black men would drink muddy water and sleep in a hollow log if she said so.

Is your hair naturally curly or do you do something to make it curly? after washing my hair there is no curl but shrinkage only that i can't even think of just doing a wash and go...jjust chopped of the relaxed part this morning and im braiding my hair on saturday but i want to be able to just walk around with my natural hair eventually, helpppppppppppp!!!!

Wow! Thank you I have my big chop for about 4 weeks. I do LOVE it however at time when I get those crazy look. I try and make sure that I hold my head up and walk on air. I often tell people it may not be for you and when I decided to cut "MY" I didn't consider what you would think. So again thank you thank you thank you because today I was having one of those did I make a mistake days.

Omg in just watching your video and it is so cool that you did this....I actually did my bc the day after you made this vid. I was very excited to cut mine and it was around the length as urs becasue I transitioned for awhile......
Now I sometimes feel like I wish I had long hair but I have never gotten so many compliments on my hair expecially from men!

went natural march of 09, I admit when i first cut it i hid a bit under scarves, hats, & wigs, but once i got a bit of length i was hooked. I encounter people at my job who ask about my hair alot. Black women, white men/women who think my hair is cute.I dont think we realize how accepting the world can be about our hair. I say invite those questions, the stares and ask them to talk about it. Most people are afraid to but relent & explain things. Im tellin you black women love talkin bout it.

The shape of face/skull and sometimes, even body shape (fat vs slim) really affects how any woman looks with short hair, confidence or no confidence. Lets say the truth. You can get away with any hair style cos you have a beautiful, flawless face dear.

@sheacocoaluv i'm so happy for this video...i know many sistas have different reasons for going natural and i'm happy that it all resulted in them going natural but ur message is the same as what i've come to terms with. I feel God makes no mistakes and for a black woman to embrace her NATURAL hair is very liberating becuz very early in life we are bombarded with images that make us feel different and not beautiful. I just decided to go natural a week ago and i'm loving the hair God gave me :)

@sheacocoaluv I'm a 70s baby and one thing I CAN say...every single sista who rocked the same basic afro had a TOTALLY UNIQUE look about her. It was like even though the hairstyle was the same, it looked TOTALLY different on each person...and totally suited the person no matter their features/face/head shape. I still feel that way about TWAs/fros/etc. BTW you are absolutely stunning...!

@okekemadue I would like to disagree with this statement. Yes, sheacocoaluv IS beautiful, however ANYONE can rock short natural hair (TWA). And if someone doesn't look good to you with their TWA, it's NOT the TWA to blame, it's them in general, which means that even with straight long hair, you'd be calling them ugly. But just like sheacocoaluv said short natural hair is beautiful, classy, sassy, and all of that. And not being confident SHOWS and is unattractive, and we don't want that. Do we ?
