I realize this vid has been up for a while so it doesn't really matter a whole lot. But for anyone reading: The Courgar band started in 1908. "The Power of the Wasatch" has a lot of tradition behind it. And one of the main reasons its called the Power of the Wasatch is because when the band plays you can literally hear their sound ringing off the mountains. Its pretty cool.
Oh, and the Power of the Wasatch is not out of the ordinary for band names. Utah University band is called "The Pride of Utah" and Florida University is "The Pride of the Sunshine". USC's band is "The Spirit of Troy"
Sometimes a particular school gets a reputation for a song, and sometimes a school writes one of its own, but you go from almost any band to another and they pretty much play the same stuff. Just like different football teams use the same basic plays, taylored a little for the style of the coach and the strengths and weaknesses of the team.
Yeah, the whole stealing the florida cheer is kind of like saying that a hail mary pass is stolen from Notre Dame. I don't know too much about football, but I do know that teams use each others' plays, and maybe its stealing sometimes, but if the play works... The thing with most of the cheers is that the music is older than college football, or near as old, and some band thought, "let's do that" and then another heard it and said "let's do that too."
Actually the band does play a stand cheer that is similar to UF's cheer. Does this mean we copied them? Absolutely not. I hope these guys were watching the BCS National Championship and heard either the Alabama or Texas (don't know which one) play the EXACT SAME CHEER. The point is, a lot of bands play the same songs because they are really well known and common and get the crowd involved.
Ok, ya'll clearly don't know what ya'll are talking about. Let me invite you to email the director of the band. If you didn't know already, the band HAS ALWAYS played the opposite team's song. It's not a form of diresoect on ANY level. If you plan on saying your opinions, do so AFTER, you have your facts straight. Otherwise, keep the thick skulled insults about the band to yourself, because nobody wants to hear that.
Wow, you two have no room to talk until you see how much hard work the Cougar Marching Band puts in each week to prepare for a game. And no that song is not from the Gators, nice try. Thank goodness all the fans that support the band outnumber you two by a long ways! Next time do your homework first before speaking.
Wow, sorry buddy, you are way off. What we play is nothing like the Gator fight song. We do have the crowd yell go Cougars on the the song you are thinking of, but in between we play part of the Cougar Song...you know, "Rise and Shout, the Cougars are out." Before you make criticisms about us, listen a little closer so you know what you are talking about. I grew up loving the Cougar Marching Band, so thats why I joined.
okay so,I think the fact that there are no comments or views on this video pretty much tells all about the credibility the of these two guys. But, being a member of the BYU Marching Band, I know for a fact that these two guys are tone deaf because we do not have a cheer that we ripped off from Florida, especially that one. Second, yeah, the usc and Texas A&M marching bands are good, and why? Because their teams are actually good. Ironically, the better the team the better the band.
