There is a God... The bible was written by men from the beginning of time. for us to go by. but people make there doctrines.. that is why it is so confusing. The bible is not the word of God.. The bible is the faithfull witness of God..Read John 1 verse 1... The word means that the word is God.. all these atheist dont believe why because they werent there i can say George Washington was not the president of united states ..but it was written he was so we beleive that..
I think it's funny how people respond with insults. You guys do realize that jus calling someone ignorant with out actually backing up your insult with facts proves a few things: 1. You're ignorant
@saintpine "I was an atheist 30 years before coming out." lol
"Just shows you how oppressive your society is" that's one reason the other reason might be that my country's average IQ is 80-90. Put it nicely "developing country" put it practically "underdeveloped country".
But yeah, my family are religious but they are not bad people so... it's all good.
Said: "that's one reason the other reason might be that my country's average IQ is 80-90"
Well not really, Italy is one of the top in the world for IQ even though we are a small insignificant population, we are able to produce one of the top GPD pro capita in the world even though we don't have any raw materials or large industries.
not all country with high IQ gonna be that religious and vice versa right? I mean there is correlation between IQ and Education which effect religiosity but it depends on many many factors.
some year ago, I teacher was punished because he dared expose his research, he found out the 80% of 1200 students had signed for alternative subject rather than religion, and only 2 students got away with it.
Religion is not compulsory anymore since 1984 but it's nearly impossible to do away with it, and if you are capable, you stay in a classroom with a crucifix on the wall.
So it seems that about 20% are interested in religion.
@rkyeun my country don't have churches sorry, i;'ve been looking around universities (best university in my country) and just couldn't find any because educaton or science have very little conflict with Buddhism. Means that even if you have a high diploma and you're smart it just doesn't effect your spiritual belief in Buddhism.
If my understanding is correct (and it certainly may not be) isn't Buddhism already atheist? You don't worship any god, do you? It's just a way of living at peace with no divine claims?
@rkyeun that is what people thinks about Buddhism which is certainly is the case outside any third-world country. In my country the belief in buddism does have deit(ies) but not god and spiritual belief that ghost exist. Like they believe there is hell and heaven and ghost and deity and angels and etc. just not god.
i watched a program not so long back that put it nicely into perspective and gives you an attainable grasp of the expanse... hold a cd in your hand and look at the milky way, now that is a rough comparison of how big the milky way is to our universe. :O
The Holy Ghost appeared to me last night, (maybe it was the tooth fairy, it was dark I couldn't tell for sure.) Anyway he told me to spread the word of Bob. Bob I said. He said, "Yes spread the word of Bob." so i said, "I'm ready, I'm ready." He said, "Perfect, now go." Then he disappeared back into the closet. I'm still not sure what he meant.
Their belief is so superficial and that's why it's easy to shake and even destroy. They place the foundations of what they believe in a fallible man written book (proved false by the WORLD), that reflects nothing more that man's perception of the universe and a god created in man's image. The god of the bible is more human than anything. It is a sad pathetic state when you find yourself either believing in the universe, or in a book written during the bronze age. Very sad and pathetic indeed.
Although, many are otherwise intelligent people, but when it comes to their faith going down, the shut themselves with mantras(prayers) and further isolate themselves to self enforce their fear of logic crushing their imagined beliefs.
How you view things is your business. I see things differently. So do may other humans. If there is a god, I feel there is but that is not relevant, the universe as we know it is a step in a continuing process, one that shows no beginning and no end.
Phil, do you think the fundies would pay closer attention if you explained redshift and some of the other things that science uses to confirm what they say? Or do you think they'd just keep ignoring you?
@altha2008: You say you believe in a god, but you say hateful things to people. This is in direct conflict with your claim to be a christian. How do you explain this?
Well if you believe in Adam & Eve then you believe mankind didn't evolve but immediately existed in our current form.
So, are you a Christian? If so, why don't you know if you believe in Adam & Eve or not? If Adam & Eve are philosophical then what philosophy am I being taught in believing they existed?
Well the bible clearly says that God created Adam and Eve, and that they were both sufficiently for Eve to give birth. If you believe in A&E then you cannot believe in evolution.
"Metaphor existence"
So Eve gave birth once being cast out of heaven, how did she do that if she were merely bacteria?
"I believe in the philosophical teachings of Jesus"
@altha2008 life was never wiped completely after it began. there were mass extinctions resulting in losses of 45-95% of all species. the animals that survived were then left to develop in any niche they desired.
Amazing video, the very end was brutal haha - it really got your point across though. Good job.
I favourited the video... because for a long time I've had the same view though no matter how hard I tried I couldn't put it into words how I wanted to, this video does exactly that and also includes the mind boggling numbers needed to not only get your point across but to punch the point right into the face of the person watching.
There's nothing that says a god couldn't have, but to assume one did is not scientific and inherently defeatist. As long as we say there was a big bang and just answer the question of "what caused the big bang" with "we don't know", then the answer could end up being that a deity caused it. But to assume a theological cause just because it provides an answer, is to put a stop to finding the real cause.
By all means, we should keep searching for the answer. I love learning more and more about the universe and how things work and they way things are, but til now I haven't found anything that proves that a God could not have created all this. I know some people use God as an approach not to pursue science, but I do think that if God did create everything, then he would like when we explore it and seek answers. The cool thing is that science and Christianity can mesh. Thanks for the response =)
This was never about whether or not god could have created the universe with the big bang, or whether he could have created life from non-life, or whether he could have changed life with evolution. This has always been about literal interpretation of the bible. They believe that if the history of the world hasn't unfolded exactly as written in the bible, that god's word is flawed, or at least that the bible is flawed, and that if there is a god, it's not their god.
Greeks used to believe that each planet's movement was caused by the outer planet's movement, and that outside the last planet God sat, pushing them along.
Now we know better how we look back and laugh at the way they answered "God" instead of "We don't know".
How did the universe start? We don't know! I for one am not going to be mocked by my distant ancestors!
Give me proof God exists and I will consider him as an option.
I never said I hated science...I said that the big bang is a theory not a fact. the bible has facts..has a definate time line for everything. where as in science they go it probably or mabey or could be... there is no mabeys or problys or could be's in the bible.. now I believe in some science and am greatful for the things they have done for the medical feild but its all about guessing...not about facts. there are christian scientists that will agree as well.
There is evidence for the big bang you know; you can't call something a theory without having factual evidence to back it up.
But I see you have a very loose definition of the word fact. I could make a list of things that seem apparent and call them fact, but without evidence to back them up those facts are nonfactual.
Time line? The lord of the rings has a time line, so you're saying it's true? I must live my life for Frodo!
And the ever changing nature of science is it's major advantage over religion. Everything we know about it could be proven wrong tomorrow, yet we would advance in having done so.
But the inflexible nature of religion is a terrible thing. Claiming things as sacred and unchanging is what led us to the dark ages. No matter how wrong the bible was, none where allowed to question it.
purrsiagirl: The Bible is a book of stories, translated and re-translated (badly) by some of the crookedest people in history. The word theory does not mean guess. A theory is a statement of fact, based upon available evidence. I don't know how old you are, but you need to put that Bible down and read a science book.
All religion is shit. All religious people are like you, poking your nose into places where you don't belong. If you're not afraid of science you have to agree that there is probably no God. You dare call the Big Bang fantasy when you believe in an invisible sky daddy? How fucked up do you have to be to do that? Your ignorance is Earth shattering. Read a book...not the bible.
o im done nobody , not me, not yall can Prove anuthing, your athieism is based on the fact tha you belive there is no god. Just another faith, since faith is believing without being able to ACTUALLY PROVE something. Many of you need to stop your ignorant prejudiced, primitive hatred and insulting of peole who have a god. i saw some put downs here. what if i came out and said that the mority of atests dress are arrogant weed head alchoholics with no personality .that would be mean and wrong
This man, people like him, and people like me believe in what we (people) can prove. Then, we TRY to come to terms with that, and, perhaps surprisingly, often succeed. Not always, but often.
What we accept is that which we can observe, which is reasonable. Every holy book ever written was written by people who observed the world in which they lived and wrote about it.
Their accurateness aside, what we believe is what we can prove, and we can prove that we are miniscule.
im notr saying that yo have a terrible argument. im just saying that neither christians nor athiests can actualy PROVE that there is is isnt a god. You cant change people they believe n what they believe so why post videos attacking and challenging other peoples belief systems? what good will come of that? What makes an athiests argument sooo much more intelligent and better than christians? Neither of us can PROVE anything about GOD. ANd who decides what is reasonable and what is not?
Believe it or not, not having a permanent imaginary friend can mean loneliness for the rest of us, I find it comforting when i find smart people like this guy, this video and all of his others, mean so much to me because they remind me there's stuff left to learn and interesting people out there. Thanks go to him.
I get the feeling you're one of these idiots who insists on making a fool of themselves on youtube when discussions go over their heads and they don't understand what is being said but stick to their same old easily defeated arguments based in ignorance and arrogance, i know i can't change this for you or anyone else so i just hope you die in an accident so your parents dont have to blame anyone for your death and dont have to mourn as hard, and then you can just rot. fucking idiot.
Atheism is the LACK of belief in God or mystical beings. Religious nutter (such as yourself) cannot grasp this because you've been hopelessly brainwashed by fucktards who have rejected reality. Until YOU make the step forward and reject the rubbish religion peddles, you will remain trapped in ignorance.
Plus NShatch, I am tired of athiess going around with a stick up their ass playing like they are more intelligent than christians just because they have a different argument. Like I said, can I really prove that there is a god, no. but i believe there is one. On the other hand can you actually prove that there isnt a god, no you cant, and if you look your arument is no more intelligent and like mine it proves nothing. thus your argument is also based on beliefs too. that makes you all just as bad
Didn't see this joke of a comment. Neworleansnative1; You are the one who came on here stating an opinion, and I responded to it. If you can't handle debate, then don't make comments.
2. Claiming the bible's true because it mentions the sun and moon is not intelligent, anyone could go out and see them.
3. There is no such thing as the burden of disproof; you made a positive claim, so you must defend it.
4. I don't believe in god's non existence, I only accept that which has evidence.
and lastly to all you people calling names on here tge only loosers i see are the ones who dedicate their lives and image to the hatred and bashing of other religions. why the hell would you waste your life trying to prove that there is no god? that sounds like a loser to me. it will always be human nature to believe in something . GET OVER IT and i think that beliefs are wht give people stregnth and bravery as well as something to live for. ask yourdelves, do you have a real drive in life?
preachers do not dedicate teir lives to hating another belief, or puting people down and rying to make them feel like shit b/c of their belief. they of course do try to convert people but that is a totally different thing. Real christians do not insult other people because they belive in no god. maybey the fake or bad christians tough. but christians who read the bible and actually follow it love others at all costs. I do no see why you people wouls try to exterminate such a good concept
alsogod does not think like us. consider that before you ask him to scientifically record his creations for you. maybey he wanted us to do it so as we found more out we can realize the love he has for us. what would drive you or me to live if therer were no mysteries. FRom the time we were a baby we would never develope if we had nothing to ponder. God even says there will be mysteries. If we new everything our pathetic human minds would not be able to handle it maybey? i still believe
first of all, stop with the attitude acting like lets all laugh at the stupid christian.secondly, when will you people accept that our minds ARE pathetic. Look at the world retards. If our minds were SOO great do you hink it'd be in the state its in. do you really tink we are sooo advanced. The bible says nobody knows the mind of god, but it does make it clear that however god does think, its not like we think. WE could not comprehend how god thinks, much like we dont comprehend the universe.
@Neworleansnative1 Think a little longer and you wont believe. When you ask a Christian or a muslim ''Why doesn't Allah/God cure retards, they usually say that the ways of the lord are mysterious.'' May there be a possibility that, there is not such a perfect thing-God/Allah.
@moh490234890238490 :D, yeah, it is but I think muslims somewhat prefer Allah... Anyway, both God and Allah are repulsive and intolerant. So fuck them.
@Neworleansnative1 where in the bible does it describe any inhuman type of thinking on behalf of the god? it does not. you fail, because the god of the bible actually DOES think like us.
why doesnt it explain things. becaue maybey god likes a little mystery, he does mention the starts and sun and moon in the begining of the bible. maybey they solar system is ever cahnging LIKE SCINENCE CONFIRMS so there could not be a basic description that god gives. the bible does not say that evolution did not happen. . and thats why there is no basic description of cretures. you stil cannot PROVE that god doesnt exist, you can only ask your questions.
The bible mentions stars, the sun and moon because anyone can look up and see them in the sky, it doesn't take any special knowledge to know they are there. It mentions nothing about planets or the solar system, galaxies or the universe. If I where God and wanted people to figure it out themselves, I would have at least given the writers of the bible instructions on how to build a basic telescope.
PS. The onus is on you to prove if any and which god exists, not on us to disprove it.
And how is it o me to prove that god exists? more people believe in a god than not.. so it IS on you, the minority believer , to defend your argument. Secondly b/c neither of us can PPROVE our argument, your argument is no more valid than mine. thirdly thats ridiculous , a telesope, how can you prove that god didnt tell us this because he wanted to see how inventive his creation was. see I cant prove my point, you cant prove yours, so its all based on what you BELIEVE.
No, you see more people 'do' believe in a "god", they believe in many different gods, not one of them has ever offered any evidence as to why theirs is the correct one besides what their own holy books say. That is why the onus is not on atheists to disprove god or gods, because there is no evidence to support any single ones existence, a minority has nothing to prove if the majority is making the fantastical claim without providing any evidence for it, might does not make right.
Born muslim, never really felt comfortable with it and didn't really believe it. Reached 16/17 and hated god. Went through a war and hated god for a few decades, only recently have I stopped hating god. Stopped hating a non existent construct. I find contentment, and that is like coming out of the ocean to breathe. Being saved and righteous is suffocating not liberating. I just wish to be free both physically and mentally. Now I am but I am from a nation where I am a minority-shrinking at that
you're right, all of these galaxies, stars, cosmos, and so forth, created just so jesus can talk to some people in the desert? lol, and they say we're the deluded ones.
philhellenes, all of your videos are amazing and so eye-opening, and I always learn something new. You have opened my eyes to an entire world of knowledge that I didn't even know existed. =)
Well, TECHNICALLY, the nearest star is our Sun, which is 90 million miles away. The NEXT nearest star is Proxima Centauri, which is just over 24 TRILLION (24 million million) miles away, or 4.3 light years.
thanks mate you are right about not being able to comprehend the numbers my brain is saying WHAT how many GARGAR.can i ask if you know how far are hubble can see.
We have to use light years. 1 light year is 6 million million miles.
The Hubble deep field photos can pick out galaxies at 12 BILLION light years (1 billion = 1000 millions, or 1,000,000,000). So, in miles, it would be 12 billion times 6 trillion, or...
12,000,000,000 X 6,000,000,000,000. Don't worry, nobody REALLY grasps it.

Hello again, Phil. I've just purchased "In Search of Schrodingers's Cat" by Gribbin at your suggestion, and I can feel the scientific ignorance slipping away already. ;)
I know you'd rather hear such news from a theist, but what can I say - maybe the book will better arm me in the battle to convert them! So anyhow, thanks again.
I'm a functional atheist, and your point about Jesus and Mohammed is certainly taken, but just to play Devil's advocate for deism: if you can see the analogy between an atom and a solar system, then couldn't solar systems together form something that we might call God in much the same way that atoms can together form a brain? I guess I'm just putting this to you because I'm curious to know if you think such thoughts are silly or arbitrary.
Not silly, or arbitrary, BUT (Please forgive me) it IS scientifically ignorant. NOT your fault. I remember having EXACTLY your thought when I was younger. But when you learn about how the solar system works, and how the world of the atom works, you find that there is no correlation whatsoever, at all, in ANY way.
If you think such thoughts your mind might enjoy the two books by John Gribbin listed on my channel. If you read them you would boost your understanding 1000%. Up to you. :)
OK, if I can find the time. It's not that I believe the hypothetical that I put forward, it's just that I realize, watching your truly excellent videos, that I don't have the scientific background to confirm / disconfirm such notions. The more I think about it, the more I think I should make the time - in fact, I'm going to your channel right now. Thanks for the reply!
Galaxies are more like atoms, severely dense core, and a cloud of stars. Much like the dense nucleus and mostly empty space of the electron cloud. The space between the stars in the galaxy is mostly empty. On an even creepier note, regarding inactive galaxies, there is a zone between the blackhole, at the center and the galactic disk, that is a void. Much like The nucleus of an atom is spaced between the electron cloud by a void.
How is that creepy? Structurally atoms and galaxies are nothing alike, they're both governed by completely different laws (Classical/Newtonian physics for entire galaxies, quantum physics for atoms) the correlation between clusters of stars around the centre of a galaxy and the electron cloud of an atom probably comes from the similar equations of Electromagnetic attraction and Gravitational pull, despite these similar equations though we as yet haven't found a single unified theory.
Several theories of everything have been proposed but none have been confirmed experimentally. String theory, if confirmed, would no doubt be a huge part of that puzzle but string theory is purely theoretical in that we currently have no way of experimenting or observing strings, a lot of classical physicists aren't big fans of string, super string or membrane theory for this reason but in any case String Theory is incomplete.
Hm i always considered that it was complete because of the two separate mathematical models of the theory which gave the same calculation.
The only thing about it that the theory indeed is purely theoretical. Are there any other theories involving the unification? I am just wondering, I have been out of the loop for a while..
Maybe, I'm sure there are mathematicians and physicists all over the world working on unification but as far as I know there isn't any universally accepted theories of unification...
Awesomely blunt ending!

Just shows you how oppressive your society is, I was an atheist 30 years before coming out.
In most of the world, coming out would be social suicide if not worst.

Well not really, Italy is one of the top in the world for IQ even though we are a small insignificant population, we are able to produce one of the top GPD pro capita in the world even though we don't have any raw materials or large industries.
All brain work and tourism.

Italy is an exception i guess.
Th0usandMaster 1 year ago
@Th0usandMaster said: "Italy is an exception i guess."
I think in Italy there are far less religious people than statistics want to make us believe.
Otherwise I don't understand why only 30% give their COMPULSORY tax donation of 0,8% to the church, and only 35% go to church.
It seems more likely that we need a Hitchens to wake up the population and get rid of this church that has been imune from critizism too long.
saintpine 1 year ago
@saintpine Oh really? Never know about that because i have never been to Italy before. Your answer is probably more practical than some polls.
Always thought that Italy is highly religious.
reference: the most recent Eurobarometer Poll 2005:
74% of Italian citizens responded that they believe there is a God;
16% answered that they believe there is some sort of spirit or life force;
6% answered that they do not believe there is any sort of spirit, God, or life force.
well it's 2011 by now
Th0usandMaster 1 year ago
@Th0usandMaster
Another reason I don't trust these polls:
some year ago, I teacher was punished because he dared expose his research, he found out the 80% of 1200 students had signed for alternative subject rather than religion, and only 2 students got away with it.
Religion is not compulsory anymore since 1984 but it's nearly impossible to do away with it, and if you are capable, you stay in a classroom with a crucifix on the wall.
So it seems that about 20% are interested in religion.
saintpine 1 year ago
@saintpine if that's true then we got a lot of hope for our future then! I mean... for Italy then!

rkyeun 11 months ago
@rkyeun my country don't have churches sorry, i;'ve been looking around universities (best university in my country) and just couldn't find any because educaton or science have very little conflict with Buddhism. Means that even if you have a high diploma and you're smart it just doesn't effect your spiritual belief in Buddhism.
Th0usandMaster 11 months ago
@Th0usandMaster
If my understanding is correct (and it certainly may not be) isn't Buddhism already atheist? You don't worship any god, do you? It's just a way of living at peace with no divine claims?
rkyeun 11 months ago
@rkyeun that is what people thinks about Buddhism which is certainly is the case outside any third-world country. In my country the belief in buddism does have deit(ies) but not god and spiritual belief that ghost exist. Like they believe there is hell and heaven and ghost and deity and angels and etc. just not god.

Very sad and pathetic indeed.

heavens means the sky above us
space where the stars are

This guys and idiot. The bible is philosophical.
Not scientific. You can't prove philosophy wrong with science.
Twicebakedtaters 2 years ago
It's philosophical? Funny that. It was literal, then science contradicted it, and now it is philosophical.
So, are you saying that Adam and Eve is philosophical and those people didn't exist and weren't the ancestors of all people?
AlRasuwl 2 years ago
"Adam and Eve is philosophical and those people didn't exist and weren't the ancestors of all people? "
I have no way of knowing if those people existed. I do know their circumstances did not.
As for their being the ancestors of all people,
what do you mean? Where do you draw that line? Evolution is a seamless process.
Twicebakedtaters 2 years ago
Well if you believe in Adam & Eve then you believe mankind didn't evolve but immediately existed in our current form.
So, are you a Christian? If so, why don't you know if you believe in Adam & Eve or not? If Adam & Eve are philosophical then what philosophy am I being taught in believing they existed?
AlRasuwl 2 years ago
"Well if you believe in Adam & Eve then you believe mankind didn't evolve but immediately existed in our current form."
Perhaps you should listen to what it is I do believe instead of insisting you know my beliefs?
Evolution has no bearing on the metaphor or existence of an adam or eve, only their evolutionary circumstances.
"So, are you a Christian?"
Do I believe in the philosophical teachings of christ? Yes.
Twicebakedtaters 2 years ago
Well the bible clearly says that God created Adam and Eve, and that they were both sufficiently for Eve to give birth. If you believe in A&E then you cannot believe in evolution.
"Metaphor existence"
So Eve gave birth once being cast out of heaven, how did she do that if she were merely bacteria?
"I believe in the philosophical teachings of Jesus"
Was Jesus God?
Did Jesus raise the dead?
Was Mary a virgin?
Did Jesus die and come back to life?

altha2008 2 years ago
The earth was not destroyed about 5 times. A lot of life on Earth has died due to a changing environment, just as it continues to do so today.
Life didn't start again, just not ALL of it died.
I didn't understand what you wrote about bones, please try again.

I've got a question for you guys =).
Why could God not have created the universe using the Big Band?
ToastyMer 2 years ago
There's nothing that says a god couldn't have, but to assume one did is not scientific and inherently defeatist. As long as we say there was a big bang and just answer the question of "what caused the big bang" with "we don't know", then the answer could end up being that a deity caused it. But to assume a theological cause just because it provides an answer, is to put a stop to finding the real cause.
NsHatch 2 years ago 16
By all means, we should keep searching for the answer. I love learning more and more about the universe and how things work and they way things are, but til now I haven't found anything that proves that a God could not have created all this. I know some people use God as an approach not to pursue science, but I do think that if God did create everything, then he would like when we explore it and seek answers. The cool thing is that science and Christianity can mesh. Thanks for the response =)
ToastyMer 2 years ago
"but til now I haven't found anything that proves that a God could not have created all this"
thats not what its about anyway
its about finding something that proves he did
before that leave god out of it
Dreamerx47 2 years ago

finlanzer8sa 2 years ago
This was never about whether or not god could have created the universe with the big bang, or whether he could have created life from non-life, or whether he could have changed life with evolution. This has always been about literal interpretation of the bible. They believe that if the history of the world hasn't unfolded exactly as written in the bible, that god's word is flawed, or at least that the bible is flawed, and that if there is a god, it's not their god.
PachucoDesigns 2 years ago
Greeks used to believe that each planet's movement was caused by the outer planet's movement, and that outside the last planet God sat, pushing them along.
Now we know better how we look back and laugh at the way they answered "God" instead of "We don't know".
How did the universe start? We don't know! I for one am not going to be mocked by my distant ancestors!
Give me proof God exists and I will consider him as an option.

altha2008 2 years ago
"GOD started it"
Who says there was a "start" and not an event in an ongoing process?
"if there was an explosion "
There was not. There was an expansion event that continues to this day. It didn't happen, it's happening.
Twicebakedtaters 2 years ago
I never said I hated science...I said that the big bang is a theory not a fact. the bible has facts..has a definate time line for everything. where as in science they go it probably or mabey or could be... there is no mabeys or problys or could be's in the bible.. now I believe in some science and am greatful for the things they have done for the medical feild but its all about guessing...not about facts. there are christian scientists that will agree as well.
purrrsiagirl 2 years ago

NsHatch 2 years ago 5
purrsiagirl: The Bible is a book of stories, translated and re-translated (badly) by some of the crookedest people in history. The word theory does not mean guess. You don't get it.
Their accurateness aside, what we believe is what we can prove, and we can prove that we are miniscule.
sumopromark 2 years ago 3

Neworleansnative1 2 years ago
The bible mentions stars, the sun and moon because anyone can look up and see them in the sky, it doesn't take any special knowledge to know they are there. It mentions nothing about planets or the solar system, galaxies or the universe. If I where God and wanted people to figure it out themselves, I would have at least given the writers of the bible instructions on how to build a basic telescope.
PS. The onus is on you to prove if any and which god exists, not on us to disprove it.
NsHatch 2 years ago

If I believed in a god, I would pray for you...
Stay safe.

you're right, all of these galaxies, stars, cosmos, and so forth, created just so jesus can talk to some people in the desert? lol, and they say we're the deluded ones.

philhellenes, all of your videos are amazing and so eye-opening, and I always learn something new. You have opened my eyes to an entire world of knowledge that I didn't even know existed. =)

hello do you know how far away the nearest star is
Domytar 3 years ago
Well, TECHNICALLY, the nearest star is our Sun, which is 90 million miles away. The NEXT nearest star is Proxima Centauri, which is just over 24 TRILLION (24 million million) miles away, or 4.3 light years.
philhellenes 3 years ago
thanks mate you are right about not being able to comprehend the numbers my brain is saying WHAT how many GARGAR.can i ask if you know how far are hubble can see.
Domytar 3 years ago
We have to use light years. 1 light year is 6 million million miles.
The Hubble deep field photos can pick out galaxies at 12 BILLION light years (1 billion = 1000 millions, or 1,000,000,000). So, in miles, it would be 12 billion times 6 trillion, or...
12,000,000,000 X 6,000,000,000,000. Don't worry, nobody REALLY grasps it.

Hawking does. I can't imagine the frustration he must experience with the species' lack of understanding.

Maybe You better tell your little brother/sister to stop posting comments under your account!
Sorry if I am mistaken, but your comment has all the maturity and respect of a ten-year-old.
So. Do you have any intelligent argument this time?

Most Christians and people of faith (no matter what their religion) are not afraid of the truth, of science, or of their own ability to reason.

LeafInTheStream 3 years ago
Not silly, or arbitrary, BUT (Please forgive me) it IS scientifically ignorant. NOT your fault. I remember having EXACTLY your thought when I was younger. But when you learn about how the solar system works, and how the world of the atom works, you find that there is no correlation whatsoever, at all, in ANY way.
If you think such thoughts your mind might enjoy the two books by John Gribbin listed on my channel. If you read them you would boost your understanding 1000%. Up to you. :)
philhellenes 3 years ago
OK, if I can find the time. It's not that I believe the hypothetical that I put forward, it's just that I realize, watching your truly excellent videos, that I don't have the scientific background to confirm / disconfirm such notions. The more I think about it, the more I think I should make the time - in fact, I'm going to your channel right now. Thanks for the reply!

Oops! Fisch71 and I are one and the same (I know this would happen!) Sorry for the confusion - I answered you from the wrong channel.

ORACLE063 3 years ago 2
Mandelbrot would find this interesting lol
ORACLE063 3 years ago
How is that creepy? Structurally atoms and galaxies are nothing alike, they're both governed by completely different laws (Classical/Newtonian physics for entire galaxies, quantum physics for atoms) the correlation between clusters of stars around the centre of a galaxy and the electron cloud of an atom probably comes from the similar equations of Electromagnetic attraction and Gravitational pull, despite these similar equations though we as yet haven't found a single unified theory.

What about string theory? :/ and the theory of everything
UnstoppableBroly 3 years ago
Several theories of everything have been proposed but none have been confirmed experimentally. String theory, if confirmed, would no doubt be a huge part of that puzzle but string theory is purely theoretical in that we currently have no way of experimenting or observing strings, a lot of classical physicists aren't big fans of string, super string or membrane theory for this reason but in any case String Theory is incomplete.
WhatisaJugallo 3 years ago
Hm i always considered that it was complete because of the two separate mathematical models of the theory which gave the same calculation.
The only thing about it that the theory indeed is purely theoretical. Are there any other theories involving the unification? I am just wondering, I have been out of the loop for a while..
UnstoppableBroly 3 years ago
Maybe, I'm sure there are mathematicians and physicists all over the world working on unification but as far as I know there isn't any universally accepted theories of unification...
