Well I wouldn't completely agree with your observations, I understand where your coming from. Personally I wouldn't think of PRS first when buying a guitar for metal although they can do metal or any genre great. I'd normally check out Jackson, ESP, Caparison first.

But for fusion, instrumental rock, something where you need a lot of varied tones, a PRS would be the first guitar I would look at.

Even though I agree with you, I've got to say that people value different things in music. Hip hop is based on lyrics and a catchy beat to back them up. Hip hop fans usually don't really concentrate on the music they are listening to. They just want to have something simple and catchy playing in the background.
