Chet Atkins and Earl Klugh What a lovely performance. I wish I had the chance to meet Mr. Atkins. He seemed like such a lovely person. I read that he sighed Charly Pride the first AA country singer at a time during the Civil Rights movement and in the south no less. Chet also loved jazz. Well thank goodness for youtube and thanks for uploading this video.
please don't go to that site and download an mp3. This video was posted for the love of Chet and his friends and their fans enjoyment, not for anyone to steal - yes, steal - the music. The Music Industry has nearly been destroyed by piracy which unfortunately starts at home for far too many people. Sorry to be a stick in the mud, but I know Chet would back me up on this one. I posted these because they are not available commercially -yet. Please don't steal the audio or video!
@EarwaveMusic they can afford/deserve to be stolen from because their profits are OBSCENE and they have ripped off every major artist who has come down the tracks.
@EarwaveMusic Chet is dead, I don't think he really cares at this point.. why should anybody else make money off of his work? But thanks for posting this.
Please don't illegally download this tune. It was posted only because it hasnt been released on DVD and the world should be able to see it, but not steal it. Thanks!
Pure Heaven.Chet raised the bar for versatilty in an unversatile age.Music was just music to him.The way it should be for any type.God Bless and never forget Chester B.
@JazzyZenBrotha Good idea. I have a number of friends who play guitar. The resonator really lets them add a totally different sound, which can make all the difference for a certain song. All of the best guitarists master one specific guitar but always try different instruments to broaden their sound.
@EarwaveMusic You actually played with Mr. Guitar??? How marvelous. He was my guitar god growing up. I wish I could get hold of Caribbean Guitar. I miss that album so much. I lost all my vinyl in a moving wreck. Chets was among it.
I first heard this song on Earl's "Magic In Your Eyes" album. This is one of the 3 or 4 most moving songs I've ever heard. It has a beautiful, melodic, melancholy about it that defies description. When I listen to this song, it almost brings me to tears: it's so simple, profound and direct. We are so lucky this was caught on tape. One often mentioned characteristic of genius is making the extraordinary look easy. Chet and Earl have few peers and they're artistry is clearly touched by genius.
Yes, just WOW! is all I can say :) I use too know someone who could play really good but he decided too go a different direction in life it's a shame that he laid his guiars down he could have been good like these two are so sad:( dj
Chet's is a DelVecchio...hard to play and hard to keep in good condition. He was introduced to the Delvecchio by Los Indios Trabajaras. The green guitar in the background is interesting... That's guitarist Pat Burgeson (formerly hubby of Allison Krauss) built it himself from two other guitars. He liked the neck of one and the bosdy of the other. He swapped them out.
El alumno igualando a su maestro, ¡Gracias a Dios Earl escucho desde pequeño las interpretaciones de Chet Atkins y le sirvieron de isnpiración! Maravillosos.
To:moncmon & mjaywill:I'm the biggest Chet fan ever. I was fortunate enough to be living in Nashville in 1980 when the taping of "A Tribute to Chet Atkins" TV show happened at the Opry House. I was there! Another youtuber got me to go on the internet to look it up under that name. I bought the DVD w/Earl & Chet playing GTCGTBlues that night. The tickets were $50.00 each, (a fortune back then), and a friend of mine got me two 4 free. DVD is good, but not enough Chet on it. Hope this helps.
This is the second version that I have seen posted to youtube. The first which was removed, was about one minute longer. The clip was much older because klugh looked to be about 20ish and Atkins played much more agressively he was phenomenal. If you like this you would have love the other clip. I wish I Knew Where to buy it.

this is the melody, pure. To mess this melody up to try and bring a newness to it is suicide. This is one song a musician better leave alone unless they totally want to disrespect the author. Isn't Chet one of the greats???

@EarwaveMusic - What is the type of guitar that Chet Atkins is playing in this video? I would love to obtain one of those for my collection
JazzyZenBrotha 1 year ago
@JazzyZenBrotha I believe its a Del Vecchio resonator, although he also used a Paul McGill resonator at times.

@jimraw1 - Thank you for the information. I'll need to get myself a resonator like Mr. Atkins. It'll be a nice addition to my guitar collection

Chet as usual is always the ''King'' and the arrangement is simply beautiful, but I really dug David Pomeroy's playing and sound.

Earl is playing a Roger Sadowsky nylon string electric. It has a narrower neck than a classical, and a Fishman pickup.
