@TimFrith24 In the U.S. somtime in the early 90s I was a manager for Woolworth in late 80s to early 90s starting out as asst in Baton Rouge LA Then manager in Lake Charles La for a year and Ashville NC for a year
woolworths had a store called Woolco that sold refrigorators and tvs that was like sears but it did not last as long as woolworths did. that's why i said they should have became like a dollar store. they tried to become big like sears. it didn't work out for them.
@The096757 Dosen't mean becoming a dollar store would have worked for them. They were five and dime stores at one time, but sclaing down the selection probably wouldn't have impressed the woolworths crowd at the time. They, however, were in the perfect position to become what Wal-mart is today, and should have been.
We lost our woolies today here in Newtownards, Northern Ireland. People can praise Tesco and Asda all they like, but in our darkest day of the troubles, tesco and Asda dint not want to know that Northern Ireland exsited. Woolies and Woolco however were always here, serving us well through our darkest days, I for one and I am not alone will miss this great store and all the fond memories it brings back, Thanks Woolies for over 50 Years in Newtownards.
Woolies always had the best toy selection when i was a child back in the 1980s. I always remember my nan would take me there 4 my saturday treat there
yeah i grew up going to this store it was like going to waltmart. Now they also own cafe restaurants all over mexico. In mexico they are really known for selling toys and home products.
Woolworths rocked. The one back home even sold military surplus rifles. When they closed I got some decent ammo cheap. Too bad the only ones left are in Europe.
I was in a ASDA advert before in either 2005, 2006 or 2007! Please upload it it's a Christmas one!

around 1997 they went out of business. they bought expensive shoe stores and didn't transfrom into a dollar store like they should have.
i like the music here. not annoying like commercials have been for over a decade.

@The096757 Woolworth shouldn't have transformed into a dollar store. They could have been what Wal-Mart is now!
