i like ur keyboard better than the standard imac keyboards, especially those ones without number keys on the side, not very practical, one question though, does quad really make that much of a bigger difference that dual? i've been always using dual, so not sure if the upgrade for the quad is worth the money

Yes, if you decide to run NASA from your iMac then your operation will be faster with 4 cores because of less space to travel and more cores to do the work, but nearly all of everyone's everyday usage is only going to use on or two cores max. So, it is pointless. Internet, most gaming, e-mail, boot up and down, music, photo editing, etc. will all seem much faster on a dual core at a high 3.6 GHz processor. Don't be fooled into spending extra money for something you don't need!
For instance, Apple offers the regular i3 processors at two really great options of 3.2 GHz or 3.6 GHz (that is fast!) That means that one core at any one time can operate at that speed. On the other hand, they offer the i7 at 2.8 GHz which is nowhere near as fast. Regular usage on an i7 quad core is going to be much slower than on the i3 and i5 with a higher clock speed. Unless you do a lot of major operations and you do them all at once you are not going to need 4 cores.
People! We need to get something straight here. Everyone just automatically gravitates towards the higher priced gadget in thinking that it is the best option. So, from that logic most people gather that an i5 dual core is not near as good as an i7 quad core processor. This is not true. It really depends on what you are going to use them for, but in nearly the majority of all cases most people will be better off with the dual core i5. With the dual core i5 you get a faster clock speed per core.

Umm dude this is an iMac. You can't expect the processing power of a Pro in something that's built into a display. It's like those people that want HD cameras in smartphones but complain they're too heavy or battery time isn't high. Limitations at this time make it impossible to match the Pro. The Pro is due for an upgrade also so you're gonna see an even bigger gap between iMac and Mac Pro capabilities.

I want to edit High Def video, would this do it without the video jumping etc whilst editing? I am currently running pinnicle studio off a HP laptop and it takes the piss. You fool! Look at that dock! You need to put your apps in folders according to their function (e.g. internet apps, multi media, work) and then put those files into a stack! I have about 30 apps in my dock but only 5 icons because those icons are stacks! I put all my most used apps (firefox/safari, itunes, mail etc) as normal so they are one click away and all the others are in a logical stack so they are 2 clicks away but i don't have to search for them...

From what I've read about, the i5 and i7 are desktop chips and in a socket, so my guess is a user upgrade is possible. (aside from any warranty issues). I figure wait a year, then I'll upgrade to a SSD, new CPU and go from there. GL
@lovelydiva06 Odds are it's because he has so many of them. OSX compensates for the amount of icons by shrinking them to make room, plus he could also like the smaller appearance of them for the sake of minimalism on that bloody enormous screen.
I was going to order the 24" LED display for my MBP but will wait because the new 27-inch display makes the 24 not worth it. Too bad given its high cost.
Nice video and comments. The i7 HT as far as I have found would only be used in Photoshop. The i5 is TONS of power for anyone besides a true Photo Pro that uses PShop daily. The memory also somewhat limits the i7 as it's not Triple channel setup, it's dual setup in the iMac. Awsome machine, look forward to mine showing up!
It won't really matter for Photoshop. Video encoding is Awesome on the i7. It also is better for longevity as we will se more and more multi-proc aware apps because of grand Central.
I purchased the Magic Mouse, and there is nothing amazing about it.
I'm currently using Microsoft's Explorer Mini Mouse, and it has all of the functions of Apple's so called "MAGIC" mouse.
To go back and forward between pages and things, I hardly move my thumb to click either the forward or backwards arrow button right next to my left click. The Magic Mouse makes my hand hurt a lot from all of the gesturing that you do in that little area.
It's not worth $70, maybe $40, just for the looks.

Yea my i7 mac is on the way, and I have to add for those people mentioning ram prices, you're right, and the good news is it's very very easy to add ram to your imac, and it doesn't void your warranty! Just remove the 3 screws at the very bottom of your imac under the screen, and itll expose the ram bays. Enjoy! Be sure to buy off of a 3rd party site (new egg, etc), and make sure it's the right ram! (1066 ddr3 so-dimm)
you can daisy chain firewire hardware, so one port is plenty. I know there is some limitation for daisy chaining with certain types of hardware that demands a freakish amount of bandwidth, but hey, if you daisychain 12 external ssd's or whatnot, you're probably better off just buying a server..
And yeah, the new iMac's are absolutely amazing. I bought the magic mouse for my 24inch imac, and I'm very satisfied. Needless to say, it beats the mightymouse by a rather huge margin.
BTW when you record net time put you snowball microfone on the center, bc since you bought it the sound on your videos only comes from the left speacker when you are using it!!

What do you mean, you can get the i7 later? The Imac is made to be non-upgradeable beyond the RAM and hard drive (and even the hard drive is a pain), so i wouldnt be surprised if they soldered the current CPU into its socket.

what i am doing atm is saving 500 euros , euros because i love the euro keyboard easier to use for me cause i lived there , but since i have sony vegas pro 9 and platinum my laptops worth is not 1500 euros =O
so i might sell this one and buy a mac ;D

how easy would it be to upgrade to the i7 - i know it uses the 1156 slot and have seen the i7's (1156) on ebay at both 2.8 and even 2.9 wondering if the upgrade is possible.easy. i have been in imacs in the past.

From what I've read about, the i5 and i7 are desktop chips and in a socket, so my guess is a user upgrade is possible. (aside from any warranty issues). I figure wait a year, then I'll upgrade to a SSD, new CPU and go from there. GL

@lovelydiva06 Odds are it's because he has so many of them. OSX compensates for the amount of icons by shrinking them to make room, plus he could also like the smaller appearance of them for the sake of minimalism on that bloody enormous screen.

They do but not for all models. For example the 3.06 Ghz model has the 4850 option.

Nice video and comments. The i7 HT as far as I have found would only be used in Photoshop. The i5 is TONS of power for anyone besides a true Photo Pro that uses PShop daily. The memory also somewhat limits the i7 as it's not Triple channel setup, it's dual setup in the iMac. Awsome machine, look forward to mine showing up!

It won't really matter for Photoshop. Video encoding is Awesome on the i7. It also is better for longevity as we will se more and more multi-proc aware apps because of grand Central.

I purchased the Magic Mouse, and there is nothing amazing about it.
I'm currently using Microsoft's Explorer Mini Mouse, and it has all of the functions of Apple's so called "MAGIC" mouse.
To go back and forward between pages and things, I hardly move my thumb to click either the forward or backwards arrow button right next to my left click. The Magic Mouse makes my hand hurt a lot from all of the gesturing that you do in that little area.
It's not worth $70, maybe $40, just for the looks.

Yea my i7 mac is on the way, and I have to add for those people mentioning ram prices, you're right, and the good news is it's very very easy to add ram to your imac, and it doesn't void your warranty! Just remove the 3 screws at the very bottom of your imac under the screen, and itll expose the ram bays. Enjoy! Be sure to buy off of a 3rd party site (new egg, etc), and make sure it's the right ram! (1066 ddr3 so-dimm)

you can daisy chain firewire hardware, so one port is plenty. I know there is some limitation for daisy chaining with certain types of hardware that demands a freakish amount of bandwidth, but hey, if you daisychain 12 external ssd's or whatnot, you're probably better off just buying a server..
And yeah, the new iMac's are absolutely amazing. I bought the magic mouse for my 24inch imac, and I'm very satisfied. Needless to say, it beats the mightymouse by a rather huge margin.

Someone tried out WoW with this. He maxed everything (graphics, resolution etc), and it ran Dalaran at 30-60 FPS, if anyone is interested.

What do you mean, you can get the i7 later? The Imac is made to be non-upgradeable beyond the RAM and hard drive (and even the hard drive is a pain), so i wouldnt be surprised if they soldered the current CPU into its socket.
