  • I have read an article about the Potato Revolution in Greece: the greeks are buying food items via web directly from farmers. Of course the price is much lower compared to what is found in stores, while the farmers are pleased because they sell at a higher price. Who losses: those who intermediate these transactions (such as big market chains). This is the type of action that the Greece and world economy needs: the producers (the offer) to meet directly with the consumers (the request).

  • A great video. It describes the problems than offers a possible solution. This's not just about Greece. A lot of countries are in the same situation. In the beginning it describes how the Federal Reserve Bank in the US helps stabilize the US economy, this is not true. The Fed is just a name, it's not a US govt. entity. It's just like the IMF, ECB etc. It makes Americans' lives miserable by creating unaffordable loans to homeowners and students. It's serfdom over here. Many still asleep.

  • I have a huge problem with this film. It contains so many unproven claims and assertions that it has a serious credibility problem. Almost all the statements made by the talking heads are extremely abstract, highly biased and not backed up by the filmmakers with evidence such as statistics and detailed analyses. Worst of all, the documentary does not even attempt to be neutral. It only shows one side of the issue and doesn't give its opponents a voice.

  • Typical Greeks, blame everybody else, "I didn't do Anything" you lazy fucks, you don;t pay taxes, you don't work, what do you expect? Bankruptcy mother fuckers. Stop bashing Germans because at the end of the day, you will still love to ride one of those awesome German cars and drink their awesome beer.

  • @Versohnung how do you know what is a typical greek?!?! where you from?!?!? if you want to know my fiend greece always had the highest taxes in the entire world. Do not blame the normal greeks for taxes. Its the BIG men who doesnt pay taxes and not the normal people. You dont have the right speak about us. Look after you and your country.

  • @sar1one Viva la Revolucion!!! Greece people! Serbian People! Unite in April at elections! Lets say together: NO to MMF and EU! Lets say together: YES for life.

    It is only way.

New age begins. Battle for Middle Earth begins.

    Regards from Serbia!

  • @Versohnung It is proven that Greeks are one of the hard-working nations in the world. This is a myth that was created in order to disorient the public opinion and make it think that it is people's fault and they should pay for it. As for Germans the 4th Reich showed its true face and its time will come sooner or later. As for you come and say it in the face of a Greek that he is a lazy fuck or motherfucker and next moment you might lose all your teeth, so SHUT THE FUCK UP!

  • wow. i ended up watching this randomly through clicking the wrong link. the best and most inspiring break down of current economics one could hope for. well done!

  • The documentary is an indictment of capitalism, commercial banks and the free market economy. It’s full of hyperbole, blame shifting, unrealistic solutions and demagogic assertions. It fails to acknowledge that commercial banks hold the life savings of people and that their savings are guaranteed by the Greek government up to 100,000 euros. These funds are loaned by banks to small businesses and large corporations alike to create jobs, to increase productivity and to promote development

  • The reasons for the crisis are rampant tax evasion, inefficient public and private sectors, mediocre productivity, generous benefits and pensions, kicking the can down the road, closed professions, governmental corruption and deception, cronyism, the 2008 financial crisis and unsustainable deficits and debts have contributed to the present state of the Greek economy. Simply putting it Greece has to live within it’s means in order to avoid another selective default or an uncontrolled bankruptcy

  • since when are the greeks a separate race? I agree that it is incredibly stupid to paint an entire country with the same brush but i'm not sure racist is the right word

  • @TheOnlySMAWJ Don't be silly, you're not stupid are you? Racism exists through many faces, one can be racist toward someone from another nation, another state, region, etc. It's only not a matter of colour, or "races" as you mentioned. So it isn't incorrect when he claimed that saying "The Greek people are lazy" is purely racism. I totally agreed with him.

  • Comment removed

  • @nikch1 @nikch1 please explain how its racism. This is probably just stupid semantical argument but there's gotta be a better word to describe the stupidity/bias than racism. It's racist to say all black people are one thing because theyre black, thats using their race to define them. Someone being from a certain country or region has virtually nothing to do with their race, aren't there black, white, brown etc Greeks? Racism is a specific thing having to do with....race, no?

  • @TheOnlySMAWJ You're not wrong but you're not totally right either. This definition of racism is general. If you go further, and deeper in its meaning, you'll see that there are many definition of racism. E.g. "[...] distinction, exclusion, restriction, or preference based on race, colour, descent, or national or ethnic origin [...]", the UN here points out here many aspects already.

  • @nikch1 when working with that wider definition of racism I understand how you would include this. Point taken.

  • @TheOnlySMAWJ It's not only* I meant, sorry.

  • Seems like Correa did something useful for Ecuador...the one and only that brought benefits economical, health and education benefits to his/our country but as soon as he tasted power he became adicted to it. If I compare our country 4 years ago till now...I see a difference which it makes me think...where is the money going? why we paye more taxes than other countries (european, americans etc)? why the crime rate increased so rapidly? why people and media can not say whatthey think?

  • To see an example of the effects of a bloated civil service gone wild check Kamikazi, agapi mou!"(1983) video.

  • To claim that the debt was increased greatly after he left office in 1993 is faulty as it was political suicide to take back everything he dished out during his regime as evidenced by the downfall of Mitsotakia the minute he tries to cut the debt. To blame others is irresponsible & also to claim that incurring debts is unavoidable is to; you have to live within your means. I hope my Greek family & country of forfarhers overcomes this crisis & rises above these debts with a wiser approach.

  • While parts of this documentary are correct, for example, that Greeks are hard working and were let down by their leaders, some other parts are not.

To say that the Andreas Papandreou regime's bloating of the civil service was not succesful because taxes did not rise in tandem is a fallacy. How can you expect taxes to rise in a society which already, as you state, avoids them? The debt & meson era truly took off in the 80s with the opportunistic Papandreou regime. To claim that the debt was in

  • Those who say Greeks are lazy are RACIST!!!!!! They have no data to proof their claim. Even then it would be racist because it’s a generalisation. Besides, Greeks work more then any other European nation. Check the OECD report for PROOOOOF!!!!

It says a lot about idiocy, ignorance and plain racism of today's societies how fast they are ready to blame the people of a nation despite the facts which are pointing to others, THE BANKS!

  • @aietes i stand with you there, i was in greece about ten yrs ago, and most of the ppl i met, had 2 jobs, and were working in exhausting heat for small wages. And to generalize all ppl of a country or race is indeed racism...

  • @aietes Well, if you really need to know what made me to post this comment, it was claim that 'German government declared warfare on its own workforce. While salaries in whole EU rose by 27% in a decade, in Germany it was only 7%.' Don't you see the stupidity of such reasoning? Who forced the rest of EU to undermine its own work productivity? Btw I don't insult people of different opinions and if you do so, it says more about you than anything else.

  • time for a GENTILE REVOLUTION against the zionist bankers

  • Italy should not be lumped in with these countries: it is the world's fifth largest manufacturer (ahead of France, India and the UK), and has a deficit of less than 5%. Two-thirds of the country have the same per capita GDP and standard of living as Austria, Germany, Holland.

Also, Argentina is not the mirror image of Greece. Argentina used to be the 8th largest economy and a huge exporter of commodities; a bread basket. Greece never had exports.

The film is rather confused & lacks rigor.

  • its so obvious i still dont understand why no one can comprehend government failure, its the human element that causes them to fail. greedy self-serving politicians go into office with the guise of public service but really they just want all of the perks. while the rest of us slave to make ends meet. they get back room deals to secure they're own future while selling out the very people they've sworn to serve.

freedom is an illusion, and government is the magician

  • to prove a debt is unpayable sounds like agood idea, though i think the root is somehow deeper.

  • This is a truth that must be known by the entire world... Share this video at Facebook and Twitter, please!!! Go Ecuador!! Go Greece!! Go Free World!!

  • ty for the up kryfos0kosmo poli endiaferon....

  • I'm sorry, but the Greek people were happy to: - vote in power corrupt politicians - allow corruption, tax-evasion and look elsewhere - take low interest loans like no tomorrow (private debt) - pump out the money from the government sector via useless spending (public debt) - NOT fix their competitiveness issues (it would have helped if they had not wanted so high pay raises)

And now that the bill is due, they complain. Typical.

Sorry, but you had your chance. Now you pay.

  • @nanomyou5 Please open your eyes and try to see what's going on in the world. At least watch this documentary if nothing else. It's not our debts that we are asked to pay. This isn't first grade mathematics, it's politics. In 2009 Greek debt was 120% of our Gross Domestic Product and "we needed to be saved". That's what EU and IMF claimed. At the same time British debt was nearly 300% of its GDP. (Afghanistan, which has been at war for decades, had 29%).

  • @IvoryEvi Unfortunatley, people are going to believe what they want to believe. I am tired of trying to explain to people that the debt in Greece is illigal. That it is an odious debt. They are stuck in their beliefs and along with the help of the dominant media, they believe that we deserve all we are getting..! What can you say....!!!

  • @IvoryEvi Beg to disagree. You borrowed, your politicians and banks borrowed to finance your roads, your schools, your spending, your living standard rises.

Greek didn't complain when they got all those benefits, did they?

Sure, I think the interest rate is too high. Yes, greek policitians are corrupt. Yes, the bankers swindled. But so did the voters look elsewhere, took/gave out bribes to officials.

Only greek people can clean this mess. Not EU. NOt IMF. Not Banks. Only Greece

  • May i ask from which country you are Ivory? I

  • @nanomyou5 You have no idea what's going on do you? It's the Greek government that pushed us to the edge, no me or my neighbor dear! of course it's our fault that we elected those fuckers but who knew what was about to happen? Did you know about the greenhouse effect before it happened? No. The Greeks that pushed this country to that point is government, bankers and the ones that transferred their money to foreign banks avoiding taxes. That's the truth and that's our problem here.

  • @KateDenthimamai I have a pretty decent idwa of what is going on. I read financial news, I study soverreign debt. I know what happened in Greece. Greek people are not innocent. Nor are the investment banks who swindled the deals, the corrupt politicians who broke the government budgets or the tax evading middle-class who broke the law. All are guilty.

It makes no sense to blame the others when you ourself are guilty.

Esp. when greek PEOPLe are only ones who can fix it.

  • @nanomyou5 I'm sick of reading or listening to this crap from some people who never had to deal with such dictatorship as this one in Greece. Only the middle class and the poor are called to pay the Greek dept and don't tell me I'm not right pall, i live in Greece and i know what is going on here better than financial news or other 'propaganda news'. There are lots of rich people in Greece that the government never called them to pay and these are the only ones who don't pay taxes.

  • @KateDenthimamai I know all that. Don't assume I have not done my homework. Still, it's a democracy with everybody having one vote. Also, who did you think did NOT police the Greek oligarchs who the money to the Swiss/Singapore banks?

    Yup, ordinary greeks.

Take a long hard look in the mirror and accept the partial guilt.

BTW, I live in a country where we did many same mistakes as you.

    And we paid.

    Every single cent.

We didn't moan, throw Molotovs and escape responsibility.

  • @nanomyou5 Democracy is in the past! Since George Papandreou quit from being the Greek president they elected a president that we didn't vote for. And know these scums take decisions without asking us. As for the Greek oligarchs you mentioned it's not up to us to tell on them. They all know whose fault it is, they just look the other way when it comes to check certain peoples bank accounts witch I'm sure you're familiar with because it's not happening only in Greece.

  • @nanomyou5 The problem is though that Greece is a small country and it's much more hurtful and visible when they do that. An ex Greek President admitted that on the 90's they were stealing more easily Greek peoples money in the Parliament than now. So tell me, you see your wage being cut to the half but all of "their" wages are raised! You see your friends leaving Greece for somewhere else! All of a sudden you see homeless people all over you.

  • @nanomyou5 Schools planned giving food for free to the children because all over Greece kids where fainting out of starvation. And now they're about to vote to cut our wages even more and of course their wages remain untouched. On top of that you see this "lovely" man saying "we were stealing your asses off" with a smile on his face and you do nothing? No we won't through Molotovs because that's what a minority of idiots do but we will fight 'till we see them starve to death us we do.

  • @PeyoteGuru If you are soooo clever like you think you are check please which countries sold Greece these weapons.

  • @HedgehogMr

channel4.com/programmes/go-greek-for-a-week/episode-guide/series-1/episode-1 this is what I am talking about ;)

    have a nice day

  • @PeyoteGuru oh you mean I should derive my opinion about the Greeks by the british version of Fox channel?

Are you serious ? Try it with somthing more credible. Anice day to you too.

  • @PeyoteGuru

WHO spent EUmoney and loans with no control? You really want to blame millions of anonymous greeks over 500 corrupt and -maybe- illegal acting governmentals? Even your own kids could suffer from that...dont you never think a second step? Only self-hating people could want that! Who cares for those stupid f**ing pieces of paper a so called government printed some numbers on? So go, shut up urself...

  • @PeyoteGuru educate yourself more.

  • We're all getting fucked here people, not just Greece. The people vs. banksters. Inbred banksters no less!!

  • Although Greeks don't work or save like Northern Europeans, they are not stupid or lazy. The economies in the West switched from strong currency, savings & planning to one of spending (with increasing debt). We have a wonderful lifestyle...financed by massive debt.

It hits those nations with the lowest birth rates (Italy, Spain, Greece, Portugal) hardest. And complete deleveraging means ever-spiraling down demand. What a mess.

  • @smb123211 Let me remind you that Germany is worse as far as the birth rates are consered compared to Italy Spain and Portugal. Birth rates have nothing to do with this.

The problem of the Eurozone is structural; Northern countries base their economy in PRODUCTION(industry). Whereas PIGS on TRADE(merchant fleets and some agriculture). If you give those 2 types of economies the same currency, the Producers will get richer and the importing "trader" economies, poorer and poorer.

  • @mpogias13 I'm aware that Germany loses pop despite 150,000 immigrants annually. She made structural changes that delayed the day of reckoning, though. The EU is indeed split.

A social welfare state with a declining population is a lethal combination since our economy is based on consumption and debt (not savings and living within means). Revenues & demand decline while expenses dramatically rise - economics 101. The "structural" part includes loss of population.

  • greece is showing us the way to democracy one more time

  • 51 NEGATIVE??? WITH WHAT?

  • Stop using the word Greece without knowing what part of 'Greece' the things u say represent, and it is obvious you are talking about the big heads of Greece, the politicians, the corrupted Doctors, Lawyers, and any other kind of sick organs crying out for power and money while sinking into the botomless seas of their own illusions, having not a way back or a tiny sense of regreting about the unbearable harm that is caused through also them to the greek HUMAN BEINGS.

Their end is gonna be bad tho

  • Is there actually a name for the soundtrack or is it a folk song or anything like that? @mingsphinx There is this guy name Richard Wolff who said that capitalism is like a barn, a barn that has served us well for a long time, but this barn is old now. It has been repaired many times over & to repair it this time would cost more effort then just to buy a new, better barn. Would it not be best to just buy the new barn?

  • Capitalism did not fail. It was capitalism that created Google which owns Youtube and that makes this incredibly narcissistic and self-serving documentary along with the hundreds of whiny comments about how Greece are justified in being deadbeats possible. So cheers to capitalism.

If anyone failed, it is the Greeks for not paying their taxes and it is the Greek state for refusing to impose fiscal discipline even though the country is on the brink of bankruptcy.

  • @mingsphinx capitalism=failure

  • @SuperKevinheart I disagree, Capitalism = successful savagery.

  • @SuperKevinheart Grr... the problem is CRONY capitalism, not capitalism itself.

  • @sigatus capitalism leads to CRONY capitalism because one can't survive without the other. Capitalism in theory is a great ideology however when you put it into function you get a different outcome from the one that you were hoping for. Capitalism has nothing to do with reality, it is an artificial system that has distorted the minds of people.

  • @sigatus To put it simply CAPITALISM DOESN'T WORK.

  • @SuperKevinheart Crony capitalism can only exist when government interferes with the market. The problem is government.

  • @sigatus Government doesn't interfere with the market at all.It use to under socialism. Government regulation is dead corporations can do whatever they want. The big fish eat the little fish. Welcome to the real world how was Disneyland?

  • @SuperKevinheart It is foolish to claim that the government doesn't interfere with the market. Obviously you've never tried to run a business.

  • @sigatus We use to be a mixed economy now we are becoming a market economy. There is less or no government regulation. Running a small business is a different story you need to have inventory and money to invest in that business. And you also need to sell products that hopefully people will buy and are interested in. Running a business has nothing to do with government it all depends on you.

  • @SuperKevinheart Advertising law, employment and labor law, finance law, intellectual property, online business law, environmental regulations, privacy law, Uniform Commercial Code, occupational safety regulations.... the list goes on. You are simply wrong in your assertion that running a business does not require interacting with government.

  • @sigatus all of those things that you mentioned is to make sure that consumers and workers are protected. And some of these laws like occupational health and safety is important because you don't want people injuring themselves. Environmental regulations always get violated anyway big corporations can dump toxic waste into the environment for profit motive. What I am saying to you is that governments need to regulate competition in the market enterprise.

  • @SuperKevinheart Governments currently regulate the hell out of markets today. Big corporations can afford lawyers to help them comply with all the stupid regulations, but small businesses can't. As a result, they go out of business not because they weren't profitable, but because the government won't allow them to operate.

  • @sigatus In most cases it is because of profit. Businesses go bankrupt because they are losing money as a result of competition and lack of consumer confidence.

  • @SuperKevinheart A governments duty is to regulate competition so to ensure consumer protection and workers rights. They don't do that anymore people are losing their jobs and consumers have no purchasing power because of monopoly. For example if you dive in the pool and come out green the pool company don't want to hear about that. Big companies can bypass laws now.

  • @sigatus Governments are puppets working for the wealthy elite. Government has no power its the corporations that are taking over this world.

  • @SuperKevinheart Government has the ability to murder innocent people with impunity. You don't think that's power?

  • @sigatus You're missing the point yes I agree with you however what you fail to understand is that capitalism as a system doesn't work because the more money someone has the more power he has to manipulate and influence others. As a result no matter how hard you try to fix the system it always falls back to that category of corruption.

  • @SuperKevinheart Then what do you recommend be done to fix it?

  • @sigatus Our cultural values need to change. We have to become problem solvers to understand the root cause of our social problems. This system is like a drug addict who needs his drug dose in order to keep him alive. Because this system has crashed many times before the rules of the game need to change.

  • @SuperKevinheart I think you are blind to the role that the government has played in plundering the planet. What do you think the rules of the game should be?

  • @sigatus

I'm blind what are you talking about?? Its corporate greed that has plagued the planet in polluting the Earth and exploiting workers for cheap labor in third world countries. Look at the Gulf of Mexico the oil spill by Mobil. What happened to Mobil?? Nothing at all what did Obama do? FUCK ALL. If Governments were regulating Industries this disaster would have never taken place.

  • @sigatus You're implying that the "free market enterprise" is an understatement that there was never actually a free market that it was and still is regulated by government. WRONG Remember when the Soviet Union collapsed and Margaret Thatcher opened the doors to the so called New Freedom for free trade. She said "LET THE MARKETS FREE" Don't tax the rich and wealthy class tax the middle class the hard working class. Unemployment sky rocketed in the early 90's as a result.

  • @SuperKevinheart You have no idea what you're talking about. There hasn't been a free market in this country in a long time. Big players use the government to push the little players out of the market. That is the antithesis of a free market.

  • @sigatus what you just mentioned has to do with MONOPOLY.Not the fact that there isn't a free market enterprise. Your confused the fact that there are big players is because they were the dominant players in the market. The Irony is is that the so called free market enterprise is the culprit for monopoly. Without Government regulation you end up with monopolies. Government regulation was to ensure that competition was sustainable and to prevent monopolies from taking place in the market.

  • @SuperKevinheart If one business is serving its customers so well that nobody else can compete with them, it's not a monopoly. The only way a monopoly can exist is if the government forcefully prevents competition from happening. That's what we have today.
