it is possible with a glass tank, but it's very difficult and risky. you also need to acquire special drill bits. if you can find an acrylic tank you might have an easier time.
that price is insane. i don't remember how much i paid, but it was not much, and i got a piece about that size. look online, you can find some good prices and they'll ship it to you.
if you want to use a pump to do the work of the overflow, then it needs to be matched with the sump return pump. also, you have to worry about the pumps failing. with an overflow, you only worry about one, but using 2 pumps ups the failure chance.
i don't understand. overflow boxes don't require a pump. mine uses a u-tube to siphon water from the inside box to the outside box. you need to find the flow-rate of your overflow box and match the return pump with it. the display tank needs to return water as fast as it receives it, making a continuous circuit from tank to sump.
Dude wear can I get those tubes things? did you cut does sheets that you bought from a hardware store right? wanna be friends? look at my nano fish tank on my profile dude? am I ready for a bubble tip anemones right?
Does the sump really clean the saltwater fish tank really well? do I need a sump fish tank for my 20 gallon nano fish tank? do I need to use live rocks and sand for my 10 gallon sump fish tank? what kind of return pump are you using for your 10 gallon sump fish tank?
the sump will let you increase your water volume, it provides a place for a protein skimmer (if you don't want a hang-on-back model), as well as extra space for live rock and sand. i have no sand in mine, just rock, the skimmer, and chaeto algae. they all serve to keep my water clean. i don't think you'd need one for a 20 nano, but my tank is 29g so that's up to you, if you have the room. i use a Rio pump, which is matched to the turn-over-rate i was looking for.
that sounds loud. i really wanted to make a sump/fuge but it worries me because my tank is in my bedroom. do you think i can put a ball joint in the intake tube to the sump and have water in it constantly
it's not as loud when the tube is submerged. that and it sounds loud with the camera's mic. what do you mean, have the balljoint slow down waterflow? you could use a smooth downtube and that would further reduce noise.
Best put a clamp or something on that hose coming into the sump, or something will happen where it pops out and floods your house. Just an FYI, leave no room for error or it will inevitibly will happen!
is it possible to drill holes on a 10 gallon tank.

i think he meant if he could just use a pump in the main tank to move water into his sump i guess instead of having a overflow..

i got all my tubes and acrylic sheets from hardware stores. i wouldn't put an anemone in a 20g tank to be honest.

is rio pump good compare to quiet one pump ?
IntegraGSR5 3 years ago
Rio is a respectable company, and my Rio hasn't given me any problems yet.

how much did you bought your rio pump dude?

can I use a max jet 400 to bring the water down to the 10 gallon sump fish tank instead of a over flow box?
Anthonykrabs 3 years ago
you can use one, but realize you'd have to balance your draining with your return pump to prevent flooding!
get a weir/overflow box that can match your return pump's rate! that's VERY important otherwise you will flood.
ajre82 3 years ago
Cheers for all the help im doing your overflow way cant go wrong like that.
ollieflp 3 years ago
thanks, my setup is very basic and i don't worry about flooding, even in power-outages.

What kind of sheet are you using for your sump fish tank? can I use acrylic sheet from my 10 gallon sump fish tank is that fine?
Anthonykrabs 3 years ago
acrylic works great. i use an overflow box to bring water down to the sump, the rio returns water up to the main tank. it's that simple
ajre82 3 years ago
Does the rio pump brings back the water to the fish tank too?

Where is the best place to learn bout these sumps?
ollieflp 3 years ago
the live rock in the display does the filtering. also this video is with it just set up. since then i've added LR and a chaeto ball.
