  • So, my first try was perfect! On the wrong side of the screen! UUUGH!

But, now I have 5 screens drying in my darkroom/bathroom.

Gotta make myself a drying rack now. Thanks for the video! Ginny

  • Thank you for the video! I just grabbed one from Joann - they are on sale for $99. I'm trying to screen print flat skateboard decks - no idea what I'm doing, though! I figure at least it will be easy to burn screens, even if I have trouble with the other stuff people mention.

  • @metalogical Just make sure you don't use too much ink since a deck is non absorbent. Also, after you heat set it (carefully with a heat gun?) you may want to spray it with some sort of protectant since it will get some wear & tear. -Good luck!

  • Pretty cool video. You make the Yudu thing look very easy to use. Everyone seems to have such a hard time with it. Nice job. Screenprinting rules! ☠

  • the first time i applied my emulsion i did not realized that it was 2 to a pack and applied both sheets at the same time what a bomb that was trial and error

  • are you wet too

  • Wow! I watching crafting videos all the time and I have never seen so many hater responses. I just wanna say thank you for the video. I bought my yudu on line for 99 dollars. We plan to only use to make fun tshirts for my high schooler. She is in the cross country team, swim and waterpolo teams. The girls like making shirts before a game. So this is perfect for us.

  • Are you married? If you marry me, I'd make sure that you were always supplied with fast internets.

  • My boyfriend bought me a Yudu about a week ago. All it has done so far is waste time, money and really piss me off. Had not had a single thing work for it.

  • I hope that you can give me some pointers on the "inking" of the t-shirt. I have tried not to flood my screen too much to the point that the letters bleed together and also bleed through the shirt, to not putting enough and having to pull the screen again and it smearing the print. HELP ! I have lost 2 onesies this morning and I am about to screem. Ok, I already did that, but you get the idea! I hope you have give me some pointers ... TY Lee

  • @leelordsc The amount of ink and pressure you put on the squeegee when "pulling" a design varies by they type of fabric you're using. The thinner the fabric, like a onesie, the less ink & pressure....the thicker the fabric, like a sweatshirt, the more ink & pressure you need to press it into the fabric. My guess is you're using too much pressure. The good news is that as long as you haven't heat set your messed up designs you can usually scrub & wash them out.

  • The Yudu is the worst SP press on the market. I don't recommend it to anyone. Once you get a screen made it's alright. But their emulsion and dryer are slightly less useful than a pile of turtle shit.

  • Thanks alot I wanted to be careful in what I'm doing. You made it easy for me

  • I can't seem to get past the emulsion step. The emulsion does not stay on the screen. It peels off like a deflated balloon. I have dried it for HOURS. Literally. And a lot of it with a hair dryer! Emulsion still peels right off. I am about to send it back.

  • @erinker74 A couple of things to double check: -Are you sure your screen is wet enough before you apply the emulsion? -Are you sure your applying the correct side of the emulsion to the screen? As far as drying goes, I dry mine over night (I'm in SoCal)...but if you live in a humid climate you may need it to dry longer.

My fingers are crossed for ya! I know it can be frustrating!

  • I build and sell Sp equipment. I would never offer a thing to anybody if I had only the marketeers approach to SP that Yudu takes for profits...at YOUR expense. I would be ashamed to provide what they provide and call it 'screen printing equipment'. Take any element of the Yudu(screen, squeegee, platen...etc)and they have dropped the ball at EVERY step! I wish you were at my house right now, I would be very happy to show you how to do it faster; cheaper , with better results and more FUN.

  • This is nothing more than a toy! It is more marketing hype than screen print reality. WHY would you pay more to print with a YUDU than it costs to do it the way REAL screen printers do it? See my 'All About Screen Printing' videos and you will soon know the reality. Get pro advice not the marketeer hype. Also see the video: 'YouTees vs YuDu Screen printing' here on youtube. 'Yu' will be glad you did.

  • what is the overall priceing for this product?

  • so i did everything like i was supposed to, and when i went to wash it off not all of the image turned out to be burned on enough and wouldnt wash away... would burning the image twice before washing it off help any?

  • @dezmaniac

No burning it more will just over expose it.

Are the lines in your design thin??? They may need to be thicker. If you email me the design I can take a better look at it and let you know if I think it's a problem. There's a link to my website/email on my YouTube page.

  • I want to buy the 30 day trial for 33 dollars online but all this still looks complicated i want to get this for my niece for her birthday next month because she will turn 9 in september 15. Watching your video makes things completely confusing for me but i will figure it out anyways. Thanks for sharing!!!

  • @AlvaroAndfriends

Your niece will definitely need help with the Yudu, but once you get the screen made she'll have fun pulling the design. Depending on her strength (and the size of the design) she may need help pulling.

What a fun project for you two though!!

  • @TheNeverSayNever83 Yes it does. You can check out my blog for more of my projects.

  • Hey baby how do YuDu ?

  • @Alxscode AHAHAHAAA!!!! that is............slightly creepy, but funny!!!!!

  • whenever I peel the plastic it rips up parts of the emulsion with it. I was thinking it wasnt dry enough so I extended the dry time but its still happening. any thoughts?

  • @bluegravity018 How long are you letting it dry? I like to let mine dry over night in a dark closet.

  • where di d u buy this machine screen plzz reply

  • @xxxkilAxxx123 this machine is available at Michaels or HobbyLobby craft stores.

  • Thank you so much for making this video you really helped me out with my yudu machine .I'm a visual learner & could not play the dvd they sent me. Thanks again!

  • @Soohood333 Glad I could help!

  • at 0:34 the word removed sounds weird

  • @Comictoons321 sorry 0:32

  • This makes it look easy. I've ripped through 3 sheets so far and it hasn't stuck once. Yeah...bucks out the window and not one shirt done. ugh. Anyway, these are the things that happend: corners curl up (why they store the sheets that need to be flat in a tube baffles the mind), the sheet fell completely off after drying, and then the final one the whole thing fell apart. What is the trick to getting the thing to stick right?

  • @heini10001 It sounds like your screen isn't wet enough. Each little hole needs to have water on it to create a bond between the emulsion & the screen. Good luck!!

  • Comment removed

  • can u reuse the emulsion sheeets

  • @coolDun92 You can't reuse the emulsion sheets once they are on the screen....however you can reuse the screens with the emulsion (& your design) on them over & over again until you're ready to remove the emulsion and start over again with a new piece of emulsion & a new design.

  • Thanks for the info, I am having a problem with the emulsion totally drying. Do I put it back under to dry again as is or should i wet it some more and stick it back under to dry? Help I am on sheet 6...lol

  • @fab1diva I like to use a blow dryer or fan to dry my screen...it works quicker then the dryer that is in the Yudu. If you really wan to use the Yudu one you'll probably have to do multiple cycles, especially if you live where it's humid. (PS - you can also stick your screen in a dark closet to dry over night.)

  • How well does the yudu ink stay on t shirt? is it good? and can i use other inks other than the one yudu supplies?

  • @THEBIGNOSESURGERY it stays on there just as well as shirts you'd buy in the store. Of course it will eventually fade over time, but the shirts I've made have held up great so far.

You can use other inks, although I do like the Yudu ink since it's thick & gives crisp lines....I know other people use Speedball inks though.

  • Do you know about how many prints you can do per screen? Like how many t-shirts you can do before you have to re-burn the emulsion and start over again? I heard its as low as 5 before the emulsion starts to go and messes up the design....that would suck...lol

  • You can use then hundreds of times before they wear out if you take good care of them. When I do demos with them they get a ton of use and hold up well...same thing with my personal ones I use at home.

  • do you have a layered color video made yet? How easy it it to re align the shirt for the second (ect) layers?

  • Sorry, not yet...hopefully soon.

  • @ErinBassett

See thats what i was hoping for..though i am shocked by it. I dont want to take over an hour to set this up just to do 5 shirts and have to setup for another hour. I want to be able to do 50 at a time if i was to get somebody who needed that many of one particular design. So thats good to hear. Ty for the quick response.

  • can someone tell me if you can use just any fabic paint on the yudu or if it has to be a special kind.

  • I wish yudu would have included that "peeling off the plastic part" in their instructions. I burned my image on to that plastic instead of my screen.

  • Oh no...that stinks! At least you know now. ( I think they actually do say it, but it's just one little line of text so it's easy to miss.)

  • hey erin. If i like a design that i made, and want to use it again.....can i take off the emulsion paper, with my design on it...and use it another time? or do you discard the emulsion paper after use...........is the mesh template reusable?

  • You can save your screens with the design burned onto the emulsion for a long time & use it over & over again. Once the emulsion is on the screen it's on there until you use the emulsion remover to dissolve it off...there is no way to remove the emulsion and keep the design intact. After you remove the emulsion from the screen you can then rinse it and apply a new sheet of emulsion and start the process all over again.

    HTH!

  • Pam from the office is into screen printing?

  • one question. does the paint wear off?

  • It wares just like shirts you purchase. Although I did just speak to a lady at CHA who had a screen printing shop print the front of their shirts and then she used the Yudu to print the back...after a bunch of washings she said the front is so faded you can barely tell what's on there and that the back that was done with the Yudu still looks perfect.

  • I am loving your chandelier tank. My question is since you have the chain, and the chandelier on the same transparency. How do you line up your tank so they get printed where you want it? That would make a great follow up video!

  • Thanks!

I just moved my shirt into the correct position. You can see through the screen as long as you don't have too much ink built up on it.

  • the emulsion is waaaay to expensive any tips on how to save money?

  • You can cut it to the size you need...or you can cram a bunch of designs onto one emulsion/screen and then tape off the designs you are not using.

Also, some people have bought liquid emulsion and scoop coat their screens with that. -That's too messy for me, so I just stick to the Yudu emulsion. :)

  • THANKS i think im going to use the liquid though it seems worth it

  • I use speedball diazo liquid emulsion. Much cheaper, a little messy, but I actually find it easier to use over the capillary film that comes with the unit.

  • Does it matter whether the front or back is up when putting into the dryer?

  • I've tried it both ways & I haven't really noticed a difference.

  • 5 stars

  • thanks!!

  • How do you print the designs on the clear paper :P

  • You print out your design with your home printer. The Yudu comes with ink jet transparencies, but you can use transparencies from your office supply store. I often use my laser printer to print my transparencies.

  • Comment removed

  • I use clear translucent sheets by the paper company from JoAnn's. Which is essentially vellum. Rub a little bit of vegetable oil over the design to bring out the black and it works just like a transparency. Although 50 sheets for $5 ends up being much cheaper! I haven't tried it without the vegetable oil yet, but plan to.

  • I've heard other people mention doing this too. I have a ton of transparencies from my days of teaching, so I'm sticking with that for now, but it's nice to know there are alternatives. :) Thanks for sharing.

  • So do you need a new screen for every different design? I know you can remove the emulsion but if I'm doing a three color design would I need three different mesh screens for the three different colors?

  • Yes, if you are doing a multi-colored design it's easier to have multiple screens...one for each color. And yes you're correct that you can remove the emulsion on the screens and reuse them for other designs.

  • Thanks. Great video, and have a happy holiday.

  • Do you get only 2 tries of emolition? Is it only 2 sheds thats inkluded?

  • The machine comes with a few sheets for you to get started with. You can cut them to the size you need though...so you can try out multiple designs with one sheet of emulsion.

  • could you use this machine on something that is round like a motocross helmet? and will it hold up well?

  • Doing rounded surfaces are pretty tricky...it's not impossible to do it though. As far as how it will hold up, that I don't know. The Yudu ink requires heat setting. I've screen printed on vinyl and heat set it with a heat gun and it hasn't warn off at all...but a helmet is quite a bit more "slick" then that so I don't know. Too bad I don't have a helmet...I'd test it out for ya!

  • hmmm I forgot you could do that. Is vinyl the same material they make Decals out of?

  • Just to clarify, I screen printed on a little make-up bag not on a sheet of vinyl, but I should try that LOL.

But yes, decal like. You could buy some vinyl and use a digital cutter (like Cricut or Silhouette) to cut out your design. Marine vinyl would last the best under harsh conditions, but we've had really good luck with using the regular vinyl outside (doors, car windows, etc).

  • but how many

  • You can use each piece of emulsion once.

  • I wish I would have watched this before I ruined a screen!

  • HA this is 10 times better than my yudu dvd

  • there paper sucks lol

  • 8o5thugz - sorry, I think I accidentally erased your comment asking for clarification on the process.

You print the design on a transparency and then use the transparency to burn your design into the emulsion.

  • Some websites says that the emulsion sheers are reusable- but I noticed after you burned the image onto the screen, you ripped the plastic out of the emulsion sheets- so I'm a little confused. Are the emulsion sheets reusable?

  • You can reuse the design that's burned into the emulsion over & over again (it stays on the screen until you remove it permanently with emulsion remover). You cannot burn another design onto it.

Hope that helps clarify things. Please let me know if you have more questions.

  • Thanks! You make it look really easy? Was it so easy your first time?

  • It went a lot slower my 1st time since I read the instructions about a million times before & during the process...but I haven't had any problems. The key is getting the screen wet enough but not too wet & then making sure the emulsion dries completely before removing the plastic cover & burning the design on. Let me know if you have any other questions.
