I just purchased my own PT145 the other day. This is my first handgun that I have ever purchased and will soon be the first gun I've ever fired. it's videos like this that I really freakin' appreciate. I am by no means well versed in the ways of a gun. I have a couple friends who are very much intelligent in the way of properly and safely handling a gun. Thankfully, my common sense, which I've been blessed with, forces me to rest my finger away from the trigger, even when it's not loaded.
@DrReaperZero Furthermore, seeing that there is a potential for a discharge due to this flaw is something I wasn't aware of prior to purchase. If anything, this will just reinforce my common sense's ability to keep my finger away from the trigger when I don't plan to fire.
I have heard this several times so I pressed a dummy round . It will do it with a round chambered. I wonder if it has something to do with the two variants. Mine has the second strike feature with no decocker. The other variant is a standard DA/SA I believe.
@chipperi Mine is the 3rd generation, And it will not do it in SA mode, only double action. Which means that it will only do it without one chambered or if its a missfire and DA mode is engaged.
This is all horseshit. Fuck a range. What about IMMEDIATELY FOLLOWING A DEADLY ENCOUNTER? Can you say, with ABSOLUTE certainty, that you would, the moment after killing a man, have the presence of mind to recall that your finger should be off the trigger before you apply the safety? I'm betting not. I'm betting you are going to recall this bit of CRITICAL information a bit later, when you can RATIONALLY disengage and reengage the safety.
You've done a public service by sharing this information.
I am not so sure this is a "flaw", but I do agree with your assement that nothing should really interfere with the safety egaging. To their credit, Taurus does point this very issue out in the owners manual. You point this out too. So is it a flaw or an inevcitable issue because of the design needed to be used with their firing mechanism, I am not sure? Thanks for pointing this out and bringing this to greater light for those who do not read their manuals carefully! Good gun.
Good info but you keep going on and on . But I'm glad I watched it cuz I just bought one yesterday took it straight to the range and shot two hundred rounds. I lov it I got it for a pocket pistol . I carry a beretta 92 F on my hip but I'm glad I got the Taurus !!!!!
Who cares? This has been said already but there is no such thing a an accidental discharge. I carry the PT 145 pro dual tone and you can activate the safety in front of the trigger like yours but it still won't fire so taurus must have rethought the gen three. I also carry a Keltec pf 9 and it has not safety what so ever. Just don't shoot yourself.
The only problem I see is the gun is not ready to fire a round when you can pull the trigger with the safety engaged. The simple act of sliding the rack to simulate the round being chambered will show that when the trigger is pulled slightly as the safety is engaged it will not release the firing pin. Thus, it is not a safety flaw. It is something the gun will do when there is not a round chambered.
Do you know if this problem was fixed with the 3rd gen Millenium Pro's? I bought a used one (been used a lot too), and tried this and it doesn't have this flaw. So, either Taurus corrected it with the 3rd gen or the previous owner sent it back to Taurus after learning it, I don't know. Thanks.
Nice video. I have one of these and I love it. I agree, that is a safety flaw. It should be impossible to bypass the the trigger. One thing I want to let you in on about the 145 is the capability of carrying it in DA with one in the chamber. Since you seem to know your guns, you should be able to safely use this option. I practice it constantly. I don't want to post how to do it, but it's safe to do if done perfectly.
I would get the wilson's but they use the same factory dimmentions, so I think I would still have the same problem. I called taurus yesterday and they said they don't make adjustible sights for it. The lady asked if I wanted to send it in to have it "fixed" so i did..fed ex was at my house 4 hours later and taurus paid to have it shipped overnight. I don't really know what they'll do but I'll let you know what happens.
btw great video i was wondering was is your thoughts on the firing pin always being under tension do you think it could cause premature wear or failure on the sear and firing pin spring
You need to practice more with the gun you carry. 1600 rounds in 3 years? I have the same gun and i've put over 2500 through it. I bought it 2 mo's ago. Who the hell would pull the trigger as they are putting the safety on? IT IS A SAFETY FLAW though. ....Love my pt145 just wish I could find sights for it. It was shooting low. Took the front down and it's better now but not perfect.

If there is a round chambered it will not do this! It will only do it if there is no round ready to fire. How is that unsafe?

i cannot replicate the safety issue with my taurus

agreed, no such thing as accidental discharge. negligent discharge

agree 100% , because of inexperience , this is def a SAFETY FLAW , simply because you have to practice muscle memory.

Very informative vid, I have been thinking about this weapon vs the Glock 36, and for an EDC it is more concealable. Thanks
