would kill to see these guys live.

  • fresher than the old one :)

    nice cover

  • It was collected as a sailor's song, but recorded only twice, from the Americans Richard Maitland and Captain Patrick Tayluer. Maitland learned it from a Liverpool man on board the General Knox around 1885.

  • Fantastic song!

  • Such a sweet song! :')

  • So different from the traditional versions which always made me sad so this is a refreshing twist on this great old Irish song. I am still partial to the mournful sounding ones though -- it's my Irish melancholy nature I guess.

  • It doesn't get any better than this. Awesome job

  • the best version i can find! awesome song

  • really great song!

  • I have adored this song for years when the Dubs would play it live!!! If you don't want to be jumping up and down after this song, you suck!

    WE WILL BE!!!!!!

  • God bless Liverpool.

  • Ah, I miss my YDubs!!!!

  • It's a bit cotton eye joe.

  • No Anger, Kumpel ! I just don't understand why it's just written " What" under my name ... Waht does it mean ? Can't explain it !

  • Crowd surfed across the Hollywood House of Blues dance floor to this song played by YoungDubs ..... backstroke I think.

  • been at liverpool uni, going home to manchester this weekend. Always think of this song whenever I leave liverpool!

  • I saw these boys in Moscow, Idaho, last Valentine's Day....and fell in love with them all !!!

  • Is there a better band than The Young Dubliners? I love them. They take the songs of my childhood and make them something even grander!

  • grander?

  • Fantastic song!

  • An Awsome Cover! I love Orginell version but they have done this song mush better! I love it!

  • I'd have to agree. I think this is a song that sounds better faster, and with that rock edge to it.

As good as the original is, I'd say this one tops it.

Really do hope the Young Dubs come out with another cover album. Would love to hear Seven Drunken Nights, or All me Grog.

  • What I like about faster versions, is that the narrator sounds like they're not too hung up on leaving, because they're also looking foreward to the re-meeting.

  • it's one of my dearest wishes that they do a cover of Seven Drunken Nights, and not to mention Nancy Whiskey!

  • @BarbaricGoose I'd like to hear them do seven deadly sins too.

  • the Pogues version is my favorite but this is cool! i'm a bit hungover but after listening to this i feel a lot better :)

  • irish is best!

  • I love the YDs. Thanks for posting. I'll check out the Elders. If they are like the YDubs I'm all in.

  • Loved it the first time I heard them play it in 1986...still loving it. SLAINTE!!!

  • Pleasure's all mine.

Love to spread the Dublin fever...

  • Is any group cooler? Been a fan since they started.

  • Hello, nice version, adorable musicians, I like it a little more slow, but nevertheless it is great fun to hear it!

    Greetings from Germany

    medianmusic

  • Really? Because that's part of their special charm, what makes me love 'em; the pace!

  • this is a great song and its done in one the most lovely ways this great the Young Dubliners are the new dubs

  • yeah i'm really looking forward to it...it's been to long! It's called Saints and Sinners!

  • Certainly sounds like a good'n!

In the mean time, you should check out The Elders. I uploaded one of their songs. They're a lot like the Dubliners.

Damn shame no one knows who they are.

  • Their original material is great to. They have another album coming out next month!

  • Really? That's fantastic!

  • The Dubs never cease to impress.
