  • What an amazing port! Can't believe this was done in 4K bytes of program space.

  • I remember if you captured four of the guys you were defending and carried them to the stargate, then clicked reverse as you entered the gate, you were able to jump 4 stages ahead. You went through some kind of hyperjump. Pretty cool effects and sounds in its day

  • wow.....

  • Thanks for posting this piece of history... Can't believe people had fun on that back in the day... Modern video games are such dream fun in comparison!

  • Modern games are indeed awesome, but sometimes retro games hit the spot that the modern stuff just can't touch.

  • Wow that is surprisingly good looking and sounding for an Atari 2600 port.

  • That's incredible. Man, they pushed that hardware hard.

  • Better game than defender because you can shoot the humanoids!!!! When I would get frustrated, I would cruise the bottom of the screen and shoot them all!! lol Great times.

  • It's a pity they didn't get the explosions the same as the arcade version

You need to use both 2600 controllers for this game on one player mode for smartbomb inviso hyperspace etc.

  • Yeah, I learned the 2nd controller thing a short while after recording this.

I don't think I ever saw this in the arcades, so don't know what the explosions looked like. Doesn't surprise me that it isn't arcade perfect though... but still... it's pretty cool.

  • The Arcade game was awesome came out the same time as Robotron and Joust but it was way too hard even for good Defender players so it was a bit of a failure sadly I think Defender is a better game overall than Stargate

  • @SteveBenway The Defender 2 / Stargate arcade game was not as common as Defender I came across it a couple of times back in the day .It was very hard, really a game for the good Defender players.

It was not as successful as Defender despite being technically superior.

  • Didn't even know they made this for the 2600. Great port.
