  • This is actually a very helpful video man! Not kidding! The explanations are quite clear, I haven't found a clear explanation of that area of the PC on all my 7 years involved in IT!

  • what i just knew is bios is a system firmware and cmos is a battery made up of metal-oxide that contains startup files well is that true?

  • Lol i update my Bois and my computer broke :D

  • thanks for the info man

  • Most CMOS now are not really CMOS at all anymore. They are typically FLASH EEPROM chips in modern computers that store most of the settings like boot sequence, RAM timings, and passwords like the gentleman above mentioned didn't clear when he removed the battery. The main function of these batteries seems to be to keep the date and time.

  • HEY LISTEN NOW I TRIED TO UPDATE MY BIOS AND HAS BEEN FAILED I HAVE MOTHERBOARD ASROCK G41C-S CHECK IT PLS AND CPU Q8400 AND I HAVE PROBLEM AFTER UPDATING I TRIED TO LOGG ON MY COMPUTER AND THE MONITOR SHOWS ME AN BLACK SCREEN WHAT I CAN TO DO ??? PLEASE HELP!!! IS TOO MUCH IMPORTANT!! I LOST MY JOB AND I MUST TO FIX TO GET AGAIN BACK TO THE JOB SO PLEASE HELP ME IF YOU CAN BUT I HOPE YOU CAN HEELLPP!!!

  • @shadowk33 turn off your caps lock.

  • @ajhrockerboy6 lol doesnt work the same sh1t i fixed now by changing mobo but thanx :D

  • i like it

  • wow, great tutorial!!!

  • Thanks for the info on changing the CMO’s battery. Before starting the task, I viewed parts 1-3 of your tutorials & everything went smoothly...very helpful info on BIOS & CMOS.

For the first time in 3 years, my HP desktop computer now reflects the correct date & time…

  • what is that chip that says intel?

  • Pretty nice video

  • i have the same motherbored but not the same case

  • How does the jumper work? For newer model computers, removing CMOS wont work for some reason and I hear of the jumper method. How does the computer store the password for bios without any battery??

  • I have an HP desktop and it is getting stuck on the "HP Invent" blue screen when I start it up. The only thing that seems to work is removing the CMOS battery, waiting a minute or so, and reinstalling the battery; then the computer will boot up (go passed the "HP Invent" screen. Does anyone know what is causing this problem? I replaced the battery with a new one and that didn't fix things.

  • hi i have shorted 2 or 3 pins on the cmos site(eprom) to clear password.but now nothing happen---no lights--no power on laptop..no reboot...but powersupply is ok....what can i do to run the laptop D610??If you can help me pls tell me.many thanks david sunfly@gmx.net

  • In early to mid-2011 computer manufacturers might be selling computers minus BIOS thank god which means that computers should start up a whole lot faster.

  • CP FTW

  • great video............easy to learn.

  • I dont have Cmos jumpers on my computor :S

  • wow awesome info

  • WHAT IS the CMOS? I hear it all the time on motherboard reviews like.. "You can efficiently reset your CMOS on the back of the motherboard" Like... WTF?! I've never used this, never heard of it so why'd I need it now?

  • Clearing your CMOS mean to reset everything in your BIOS to default. When an overclock session goes horribly wrong and your computer no longer boots there has to be a way to reverse your overclock back to default so you can boot your PC. This is where "clearing your CMOS" comes into play and it's whole purpose.

  • Thank you so much, I've been wondering for a while now.

  • @Scott97169 This comment helped me greatly.... my friend overclocked (to play games) and it didn't go too well for him.... I will tell him to use the reset jumper and clear CMOS. =D

  • @NoneImparticular CMOS = BIOS settings

  • @TheGeek1028

CMOS = semiconductor technology, nothing more

  • @Serpico261 no its complementary metal oxide semiconductor ,and when you open bios and create your own settings including bios password all of your bios settings will be saved on cmos and when you forgot your bios password you can reset your bios default settings by removing and reinserting cmos battery on your motherboard..have a nice day:)

  • i've got an error everytime i boot up my computer it says cmos setting are wrong and date and time not set is anyone know how to fix please tell me

  • @AdotR95 - replace the battery on the motherboard

  • Yeah Great thanks Worked

  • exscuse my ignorance but my pc shows a checksum error defaults loaded then cmos battery failure.. i think i should be able to sollve checksum error but i would like to know is if i can put any cmos battery into my pc or has it got the same. I have t 2 pcs an 2 batterys but there different types. p.s. the fail battery is same as your 1st part of your video (kts) any info would be great

  • nice job

  • CMOS is a manufacturing technology and NOT an specific chip, i.e. all the motherboards chipset is manufactured on CMOS technology
