New 2009 way cooler/better in my opinion. Looks like a hot rod/battleship. The way the neck is deeper into the main hull, the larger engines, the curve of the engine pylons, looks stronger, better to me. Too bad there are so many haters out there.
I wound't say it looks way better, but I do like the new look. And because of the 2009 movie, i came to love the TOS show, and the ships from that era, and all I have to say is....people need to calm down, things change.
@SpadXIIIFlyer I've loved Star Trek for a long time. I will admit I grew up in the TNG/DS9/VOY generation, but I respect and love TOS as well. Have for a long time. When I went to see this movie, I absolutely loved it. To me it felt right. It's a shame there are so many anal haters out there. It's not like the Prime Reality got screwed up or anything if people are that worried. People really do need to calm down. I embrace change. I wish other people would.
Loved the 2009 movie, not a fan of the new Enterprise, NCC-1701-A was much better looking, but hey at least we got a new movie and the franchise is still alive and kicking!
visually, that was out of site. being nit picky here, but I felt that the warp nacelles were a bit big an clunky looking. also, needed anti-collision lights blinking.that was one of the things about the original film that douglas trumball made look sooo cool.like you actuasllyout in spacedock watching the enterprise leave. but,all in all, very well done.
Very well done, and Jerry Goldsmith's music will always be better than ANYTHING that Michael Giacchino will ever compose. Goldsmith was a MASTER!
This is the way the ship should have been presented in the first place, but Jar Jar Abrams insisted on screwing with the Great Gene Roddenberry's vision. He's even admitted he was a big fan of "Star Wars" and was NEVER a "Star Trek" person. For God sake, JJ is a mediocre TV producer, at best!
Not bad. I still think TMP Enterprise was the best version but the reboot Enterprise is not bad. Just wish they'd back up the deflector dish and give her a little more in the rear....
I love, love, love this video. It's part of my daily routine now. It's not about what the ship looks like, it's about what it represents. 1:08 is very moving.
And how could anyone hate this Enterprise? It's just a more realistic update of the original, and it's absolutely beautiful.
WHO ON HERE IS AN ARTIST THAT DRAWS AND PAINTS?????? ANYONE?????? THE BIG E REDISGNED IS THE SHIT PERIOD. I LOVE IT IM GLAD SOMEONE STEPPED UP TO THE PLATE AND MADE HER AS SHE SHOULD BE ENVISIONED IN THE 21ST CENTURY. TO BOLDLY GO WHERE NO ONE HAS GONE BEFORE.
@budd2200 I'm an artist who draws and paints! if you would like to see my rendition of the enterprise, shoot me an e-mail (hamo1701@yahoo.com) I'd be more than happy to show it to you
This is well done, for the limits of the programs you were using. Good job.
What I'd like to see (not saying 'do it!', 'cos it'd take FOREVER!) is a replacement of the Enterprise footage from the Motion Picture with scenes of the '09 Enterprise, but still with the bits of Kirk and Scotty cruising slowly around it. THAT would be impressive. A whole ton of cutting and editing to get that pod to fly past the new Enterprise, I think. Probably as hard as Stewie dancing with Grace Kelly. Good job!
Love the part at 2:10 - 2:21. I'm also not too fond of Abrams Enterprise, looks like the TOS version on steroids bred for war, but this makes it look majestic. Nice job.
Overall a neat animation....I only wish that you got the warp speed effect correct as it was in the movie...looks a lot cooler than just stars moving by.
All this hate on the 2009 movie...really, it was the best Star Trek film since Wrath of Khan. I really love the new Enterprise design and the new cast. A breath of fresh air in a franchise that was too much of a mess.
Frankly, the new ship has kind of grown on me. The only part of it I object to is the vast silos that line the interior. It's a starship, not a brewery.
@CaptainPositron Agreed!! I didn't mind the brewery design myself, but I wish they'd add better direction to it, rather than just giant random tanks with faux radiation signs. They could've done much better with that, even with a small budget.
I wonder if This was the design of the Refit Enterprise in 1979 would the fans at that time would have Bitched and Moaned as much as the fans of today? Overall it doesn't look to be that bad. If fact I was expecting it to be a hell of a lot worst. Still can't beat the original Design though.
All Federation ships are built at two locations, one near San Francisco and two at the Utopia Planitia shipyards on mars. Last year's movie basically contradicts everything Star Trek is about. Memory Alpha's bullshit explanation about possible catastrophy in relation to riverside shipyard is total crap. They do not activate any of the ship's propulsion systems until it reaches space.
@MasterJediKyleKatarn Sorry, I thought Star Trek was about adventure, mystery, compelling characters and hope for the future of humanity, not trivia about where the fucking ships are built.
@MasterJediKyleKatarn Alright, maybe they needed to build it on earth to calibrate the artificial gravity. Or maybe it was just easier to assemble on the ground than move all the parts into space and assemble in orbit. Or maybe it's a good structural test to see how easily the ship can escape from a gravity-well. (It actually makes more sense when you think about it.) Plus it's never explicitly claimed that Starships are constructed at ONLY those two sites.
actualy capy guy if you read the star trek book banner of stars you find out that allot of federation ships were built on the ground. be fore the original refit launched the saucer was refitted on earth to save time and money while the secondary hull stayed in dry dock in space
@3riversrambler Books aren't canon. In Star Trek, only the episodes and movies are canon. Recently, TAS has been "accepted" as canon. Look it up on Memory Alpha or Ex Astris Scientia.
Admiral kirk was too important to simply take a Small Skimpy Shuttle Pod over to the Legendary Enterprise. he should have taken a Well Armored Executive Shuttlecraft fitted with Phasers,Shields and Warp Engines. An Armed Guard should have followed him as he visited the USS Enterprise which was in an Orbital Drydock undergoing the Last of her Overhaul and Refit in Low Earth Orbit. Better yet the Refit should have been in Orbit around the Moon. Her Refit would have been Top Secret. Blooper Event !
the problem is there are (quote) so called fans who are not star trek fans and dont like it who think the new ship is rubbish unlike those who understand the origin of the new timeline and understand the reason for it and are not fussed they are right
@luigi19987 Oh, I understand where the new timeline came from (The writers didn't want to bother keeping 40 years of canon together), and how does that influence the ship design at all? Heck, I didn't like the Defiant design when it came out. I just think that this Enterprise is a really ungainly looking ship.
@CapyGuy if the other timeline was being discontiued star trek online would be set in the alternate timeline and all authors working on books for the prime universe would be asked to change the setting and set it in the alternate timeline but they are not and therefore there is no worry
@CapyGuy yhes you are correct what i am saying is the events which lead up to the film took place after nemesis in prime universe the plot is basic the hobus system is dying its star will go nova and wipe out romulus abasador spock and nero use red matter to stop it nero grows impatient and goes off to save his family but arrives too late romulus is gone out he blames spock and attempts too kill him but is stopped he and spock are sucked into a artificial black hole into the alternate reality
that's one of the few relieves in STO ... i just recently bought the game and am pleased to see that the prime (or as i like to call it ONE AND ONLY universe) continues, though its odd that spock narrates the story although he's supposed to be in the past in some other timeline :-/
From the Hitchhiker's GTTG: "And of course, the worst motion picture ever created was that awful remake of Star Trek. It's so bad, that when shown at the Vogon Arts Council review, the Vogons thought it was a comedy, and praised it as being the funniest thing they'd ever seen."
"One critic said, it is best seen under the influence of a Pan Galactic Gargle Blaster. He is thought to be correct."
@CapyGuy The saucer wasn't the exact same as the TMP Constitution. The windows were probably bigger on the JJ Enterprise. As for the size of the ship, that's the size I thought that the Enterprise should have been in the first place. The pinnacle of mankind's technology should not be as long as a 20th century aircraft carrier and only have a fraction of that many people aboard.
@TONYGILLEY That's what happens when a director who has never seen Trek just judges everything by the Original Series uniforms, and models the ship accordingly. XP
@TONYGILLEY There is one good angle, the front. It's looks good from the front only. The ship definitely would not survive an atmospheric entry like when the TOS Enterprise was above the Omaha military base in "Tomorrow is Yesterday'.
@MasterJediKyleKatarn The actual model designed and used in the film is what I am talking about. To be honest, it sucks. just like the all flash (or lens flare) and no substance writers/director of the film. (in my opinion) I really hate JJ Abrams and his two writing buddies who more or less ruined Cowboys and Aliens for me. And Super 8 was Stupid. but that's a different topic. I give an A for effort to the artist of this video. An F to the idiot who designed the "JJ-prise" itself.
1. Driven by dramaturgic necessities - specifically, the 366m model was too small relative to its shuttles and its surroundings.
2. Only superficially. There are significant, though subtle, differences that some fans choose to downplay. The saucer rim windows are consistent with a 730m Enterprise with windows on only some decks (which is sensible considering the Enterprise is, y'know, a warship)
3. Star Trek contradicts common sense, your point?
1. There are contradictions to the length of this Enterprise being 725 metres. Visual evidence suggests closer to 300-366 metres.
2. Which makes a lot of sense. If this were a true prequel, wouldn't it make sense structurally to have the ship be of a similar design of the Probert Enterprise for the refit in 18 months?
3. From the TNG episode Parallels, photos of Utopia Planitia, I saw something on the surface of Mars, suggesting that isn't too inconceivable.
3 con't: As well building the ship on the ground makes sense. Further protects the construction crew from the suns deadly radiation, flying debris, meteors, and so forth. Also having gravity believe it or not is safer.
As well they do have the power to lift the ship off of the surface, they just don't land it due to why bother with transporters and shuttles?
@CapyGuy "Wrong"? I'm looking at her left nacelle right now, and it doesn't appear to be phallic in ANY way; matter of fact, they almost look like you could put a pair of 'em on a Podracer from Phantom Menace.
@ nr. 4: this is somehow all part of the stupid enterprise-idea that, the bigger the warpcoil/-nacelles the higher the speed she can reach O_o remember the first few episodes of enterprise when mayweather and trip almost jerked off every time they talked about the ships big core, the ships big nacelles etc ... this enterprise just shows that they have taken this retarded idea to a whole next level of design-idiocy
@Medhiv83 trip and mayweather were right in what they said because it was true in their current warp dive engineering. obviously after a couple of centuries that changed as voyager was one of starfleet's fastest ships and it's nacelles were smaller than the NX-01.
i don't mind the characters jerking off over something like that, i was merely commenting on the notion of the st11-design team taking this stupid idea one step further !!! it almost seems like an half-retarded 50s american "the bigger the car, the more power/speed" it has philosophy :(
i mean comon the necelles of the new enterprise are almost as big as the stardrive section of the ship (which might look okay for a sovereign class ship, but for a consitution cruiser?!??)
@Medhiv83 i think it's safe to say that J.J has basically screwed over star trek. after all when he got the job directing it the first thing he said to his production team was "how can we make it more like star wars?" although i like the movie, i don't like the way the enterprise looks and i can't believe kirk would be a captain so quickly...a lieutenant yes (as that would fit in with the original continuity instead of taking a huge dump on it) but not a captain.
@CapyGuy the only reason why they had it built on the ground was to make a scene where he see's his future ship... but ya if you watch star trek enough you would kno that they are built in ship docks...
I thought the ship design was nice but i still like the enterprise A and Enterprise D better (in my opinion)
well said. I think it's sacrilage to play one of the most beautiful pieces of Trek music that sent off the most beautiful ship models created for Trek, in a scene with Abrams' retarded looking version.
Thanks; I'm kinda getting used to the look of the new Enterprise, but whenever I watch the DVD and see the God-awful engine room (that looks like a brewery!) I just think 'What the hell was going through their minds?'. It should have looked more like the engine rooms on the Enterprise-D or E. I'm pleased that the new movie will get young people into watching Star Trek, but for me Star Trek will always be the original series and the movies that followed....
Again. I agree with you on the engine room. Since I've seen the MST3K version of "Space Muntiny". Whenever I watch ST Abrams, I think of the "rotting septic system in this futuristic spaceship!"
What went through their heads was, "Oh crap, we're running out of money, and we need a place to shoot!"
Really, that's about what happened. They had a beautiful design for the engine room, they wanted an enormous set, but they were out of money for sets so they had to shoot on location.
And why does everyone hate the new Enterprise so much? It makes no sense...
wow, is that what really happened? thanks for telling me! i'm getting used to the design of the new enterprise (still not as good as the original series or movie enterprise), but the engine room on the new ship is god-awful....
@Anduril74871 I Dislike the new enterprise because its down right ugly.. the one that was used on Star Trek the motion picture was the best... the Movie In my eyes is a Large pile of shit to what G R would have wanted.. there taking his dream his work and there changing everything.. this is Star Track done from a Star Wars Fan.. .. anyways Love the video .. you should make one of the old enterprise ..
Fella, I was kidding. :P Star Trek fandom can just be fickle at times, with all the infighting between fans of the different series. TOS fans bitching about TNG "ruining" the franchise, TNG fans bitching about how dated TOS is. Don't get me started on the Voyager/Enterprise controversy.
There's a hilarious essay about Star Wars fans hating Star Wars, but I think the same can apply to Star Trek fans. The fandom at large just never seems to be united on anything except negativity.
@Anduril74871 well said unlike the so called fans who claim to like star trek but dont understand it as for the timeline buy star trek countdown it explains a lot
@luigi19987 Star Trek: Countdown IS NOT canon, you moron! It's just something to make you idiots think that this movie is legit! This movie is no more canon than that stupid comic book series is!
WE HATE THE NEW ENTERPRISE BECAUSE IT HAS LITTLE IF ANYTHING IN COMMON WITH THE ORGINAL.
On the other hand- the Enterprise's design was based on cooking spatulas Matt Jefferies found in his kitchen that he turned over for Gene Rodenberry- then added the engines.
@MrTrailltrader Little if anything in common with the original? Really? Circular saucer section? Check. Lower slung secondary hull with a dish and a shuttlebay? Check. Cylindrical warp nacelles held away from the main body of the ship by pylons? Check. Phasers and photon torpedoes? Check. Warp drive? Check.
@MrTrailltrader So apparently you believe that I'm not only under 18, but also never saw the original series? Think again bucko. I'm 25, have the entirety of the original series on DVD, and I still enjoyed the movie. I'm sorry, but they could have done much worse. The Enterprise could have looked even worse, the Romulans could have been created by humans, and Spock could have been a woman.
Kid- I haven't seen 25 in 25 summers. You're right- the Romulans could have been created by humans, and Spock as a woman would certainly be a twist to the MIrror Universe.
@Anduril74871 It makes all the sense in the world. This so called "Star Trek movie" sucked Ferengi balls! Everything about this stupid peice of JJ Abrams shit was ALL WRONG! Especially this "faggoty looking Enterprise" and the stupid, stupid, stupid storyline!
Abrams is a twtchy, stuttering little asshole who has no idea how to direct feature films. He needs to stick to producing mediocre TV shows and leave the classics alone!

@gorn779757 the engine room is what it is because it feels more like an engine room oh and the ship looks bigger on the inside because there are 1000 crewmembers not 430and that is the reason at least they did not mess up the design too much
New 2009 way cooler/better in my opinion. Looks like a hot rod/battleship. The way the neck is deeper into the main hull, the larger engines, the curve of the engine pylons, looks stronger, better to me. Too bad there are so many haters out there.

@TONYGILLEY There is one good angle, the front. It's looks good from the front only. The ship definitely would not survive an atmospheric entry like when the TOS Enterprise was above the Omaha military base in "Tomorrow is Yesterday'.
MasterJediKyleKatarn 2 weeks ago
@TONYGILLEY However the 3D model in this video is poorly designed so it's only 70% accurate.
MasterJediKyleKatarn 2 weeks ago
@MasterJediKyleKatarn The actual model designed and used in the film is what I am talking about. To be honest, it sucks. just like the all flash (or lens flare) and no substance writers/director of the film. (in my opinion) I really hate JJ Abrams and his two writing buddies who more or less ruined Cowboys and Aliens for me. And Super 8 was Stupid. but that's a different topic. I give an A for effort to the artist of this video. An F to the idiot who designed the "JJ-prise" itself.

@TONYGILLEY Well unfortunately it doesn't look like the Alternate ship is going to change anytime soon.

@CapyGuy
4. Justify.
Maupin001 1 year ago
@CapyGuy:
Potrimpo 1 year ago
@CapyGuy ran out allowable characters:
4. It's just a matter of taste.
Potrimpo 1 year ago
@CapyGuy "Wrong"? I'm looking at her left nacelle right now, and it doesn't appear to be phallic in ANY way; matter of fact, they almost look like you could put a pair of 'em on a Podracer from Phantom Menace.

@droidekabakugan1986 Duh! Shut up! You think this movie is good? You really are a mentally handicapped, aren't you?

@CapyGuy Actually the Enterprise TOS was built on ground, the plaque on the bridge says "USS ENTERPRISE"
"STARSHIP CLASS"\
"SAN FRANCISCO CALIF."
waffleownage 9 months ago
@waffleownage Starfleet's San Fracisco ship yards were in syncronois orbit above S.F.
These ships were NEVER built on the ground.
It would have been too much stress on their structual integrity.
They were built IN ORBIT!

@CapyGuy
Medhiv83 8 months ago
@Medhiv83 trip and mayweather were right in what they said because it was true in their current warp dive engineering. obviously after a couple of centuries that changed as voyager was one of starfleet's fastest ships and it's nacelles were smaller than the NX-01.
Doppleganger1983 8 months ago
@Doppleganger1983
i don't mind the characters jerking off over something like that, i was merely commenting on the notion of the st11-design team taking this stupid idea one step further !!! it almost seems like an half-retarded 50s american "the bigger the car, the more power/speed" it has philosophy :(
i mean comon the necelles of the new enterprise are almost as big as the stardrive section of the ship (which might look okay for a sovereign class ship, but for a consitution cruiser?!??)
Medhiv83 8 months ago
@Medhiv83 i think it's safe to say that J.J has basically screwed over star trek. after all when he got the job directing it the first thing he said to his production team was "how can we make it more like star wars?" although i like the movie, i don't like the way the enterprise looks and i can't believe kirk would be a captain so quickly...a lieutenant yes (as that would fit in with the original continuity instead of taking a huge dump on it) but not a captain.
Doppleganger1983 8 months ago
@CapyGuy the only reason why they had it built on the ground was to make a scene where he see's his future ship... but ya if you watch star trek enough you would kno that they are built in ship docks...
I thought the ship design was nice but i still like the enterprise A and Enterprise D better (in my opinion)

nice work, but the new enterprise sucks balls
gorn779757 2 years ago
well said. I think it's sacrilage to play one of the most beautiful pieces of Trek music that sent off the most beautiful ship models created for Trek, in a scene with Abrams' retarded looking version.
DaftStrings 2 years ago
Thanks; I'm kinda getting used to the look of the new Enterprise, but whenever I watch the DVD and see the God-awful engine room (that looks like a brewery!) I just think 'What the hell was going through their minds?'. It should have looked more like the engine rooms on the Enterprise-D or E. I'm pleased that the new movie will get young people into watching Star Trek, but for me Star Trek will always be the original series and the movies that followed....
gorn779757 2 years ago
Again. I agree with you on the engine room. Since I've seen the MST3K version of "Space Muntiny". Whenever I watch ST Abrams, I think of the "rotting septic system in this futuristic spaceship!"
DaftStrings 2 years ago
What went through their heads was, "Oh crap, we're running out of money, and we need a place to shoot!"
Really, that's about what happened. They had a beautiful design for the engine room, they wanted an enormous set, but they were out of money for sets so they had to shoot on location.
And why does everyone hate the new Enterprise so much? It makes no sense...
Anduril74871 2 years ago 5
wow, is that what really happened? thanks for telling me! i'm getting used to the design of the new enterprise (still not as good as the original series or movie enterprise), but the engine room on the new ship is god-awful....
gorn779757 2 years ago
@Anduril74871 I Dislike the new enterprise because its down right ugly.. the one that was used on Star Trek the motion picture was the best... the Movie In my eyes is a Large pile of shit to what G R would have wanted.. there taking his dream his work and there changing everything.. this is Star Track done from a Star Wars Fan.. .. anyways Love the video .. you should make one of the old enterprise ..

You must not be familiar with Star Trek fandom. They hate everything that doesn't fit into their narrow view of what makes the franchise good.
SuperSaiyanAl 1 year ago
@SuperSaiyanAl I've been a fan of Star Trek for most of my life, and I love almost all the series and movies. Including the new movie.
Anduril74871 1 year ago
Fella, I was kidding. :P Star Trek fandom can just be fickle at times, with all the infighting between fans of the different series. TOS fans bitching about TNG "ruining" the franchise, TNG fans bitching about how dated TOS is. Don't get me started on the Voyager/Enterprise controversy.
There's a hilarious essay about Star Wars fans hating Star Wars, but I think the same can apply to Star Trek fans. The fandom at large just never seems to be united on anything except negativity.

@Anduril74871 well said unlike the so called fans who claim to like star trek but dont understand it as for the timeline buy star trek countdown it explains a lot
luigi19987 1 year ago
@luigi19987 Star Trek: Countdown IS NOT canon, you moron! It's just something to make you idiots think that this movie is legit! This movie is no more canon than that stupid comic book series is!

@Anduril74871
MrTrailltrader 1 year ago
@MrTrailltrader Little if anything in common with the original? Really? Circular saucer section? Check. Lower slung secondary hull with a dish and a shuttlebay? Check. Cylindrical warp nacelles held away from the main body of the ship by pylons? Check. Phasers and photon torpedoes? Check. Warp drive? Check.
Anduril74871 1 year ago
@Anduril74871
My Johnson has warp drive- thats why I was promoted from being a "Minute Man" to being a "Millisecond Man" with my g/f!
Never mind- someday you'll understand when they do another reboot of the series. I'll be dead of old age and you'll get a chance to understand then
MrTrailltrader 1 year ago
@MrTrailltrader So apparently you believe that I'm not only under 18, but also never saw the original series? Think again bucko. I'm 25, have the entirety of the original series on DVD, and I still enjoyed the movie. I'm sorry, but they could have done much worse. The Enterprise could have looked even worse, the Romulans could have been created by humans, and Spock could have been a woman.
Anduril74871 1 year ago
@Anduril74871
Kid- I haven't seen 25 in 25 summers. You're right- the Romulans could have been created by humans, and Spock as a woman would certainly be a twist to the MIrror Universe.

Abrams is a twtchy, stuttering little asshole who has no idea how to direct feature films. He needs to stick to producing mediocre TV shows and leave the classics alone!

@gorn779757 the engine room is what it is because it feels more like an engine room oh and the ship looks bigger on the inside because there are 1000 crewmembers not 430and that is the reason at least they did not mess up the design too much

good but the new ships aren't housed in those kind of prime timeline drydocks. They're housed in the giant hub spacedock in the new movie.
